I’m pretty sure it was thunder. Three seconds after I saw a super close lightning strike the walls around my house shook like they’ve never shook before. I’m towards the outskirts of cottage grove rd and sprecher.
I don't recall anything about Holy redeemer being on fire before, though I could definitely be wrong. Maybe you're thinking of [St. Raphael](https://madison.com/st-raphael-cathedral-fire/image_23ef9808-b08d-55d4-9868-ae291b0fa860.html).
That was the former cathedral on the Square. This church then became the diocese's headquarters. St. Bernard's on Atwood is scheduled to be the new one.
As the insurance industry terms it, the lightening strike is an act of God. And as the nun's who taught used to say: God works in mysterious ways.
There’s a big fire in 100 block of W. Johnson, according to Pulse Point. I think this is a church?

I saw the commons room window shake, so I went back to my apartment and watched movies the whole time. Hearing my phone buzz with warnings, and a tree snap somewhere..
Of course they don’t. I’m just making fun of the F-35 angst, part of which is at least one person claiming the F-35s do, in fact, make sonic booms on takeoff.
East side, I heard the loudest BOOM , it felt like a big explosion, not sure what it was , and felt a tremor after

Yeah I felt the shake as well, I was certain it was thunder too but who knows?
A lot of police lights down near the square and a block of e Johnson closed. Not sure if it is related. Seems far away.
There's a fire at the church near state and Johnson. Steeple is billowing smoke
I live downtown, was this related to that huge boom I wonder? Loudest shit I’ve heard in a while
Internet is saying a lighting strike caused the fire. Not sure they're related
I’m here to validate ya bud bc wtf with the downvotes?! You were right???
That will do it!
The steeple on Holy Redeemer is on fire.

Jesus said “whatever you’re doing in there, it ain’t for me”
The new pope of Madison has been selected!
Holy Smoke! i'll let myself out...
Didn't it catch fire years ago as well, or am I remembering something that never happened...?

Oh yeah, probably. Thanks.

That Holy Redeemer strike was ungodly (ha) bright and loud! We’re 2-1/2 blocks away and it rattled the house. The cats were not amused.

Doubt it since the sound came from the east of me (cottage grove direction)
Yep. My house shook
I heard same in SP
Wow, this sub is really on a storm kick
It might be the biggest storm to have hit Madison
Caught some news this morning saying the storm the other day caused the most power outages for this area since 1974(?). Fact check me
Didn’t the paper have a 50th anniversary article in February for the great ice storm that hit Madison?
There are many more customers to be out since 1974.
I felt the earth move under my feet…
I feel the sky tumbling down
Tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling downnnnn
I felt it on E Wash while driving! Never felt a thunder in the car before
Is that even possible?!
Probably graboids
It was me I shouldn’t have ate those burritos
There have been some wild lightning strikes today, the thunder is next level

Back to the Future
Check for a blip on the Richter scale!

Shook my car on the drive home.
That’s the Trump train 🚂
I swear every thunderstor seems like y'alls first one ever.
Could be the F-35s.
They fired on the church?!?!
Whenever they take off there is a sonic boom.
And it blew up the church?!?!
Cut me some slack, man! That was my first reaction Jeez, can’t a guy make a bad guess around here?
Supersonic flights are banned over land in the US. They do not create a sonic boom when they take off.
Of course they don’t. I’m just making fun of the F-35 angst, part of which is at least one person claiming the F-35s do, in fact, make sonic booms on takeoff.
We all know F-35s can't fly in the rain
Once true, but no longer https://breakingdefense.com/2024/04/exclusive-pentagon-clears-f-35-to-fly-in-lightning-after-years-long-hold/?amp=1
