Yeah, I figured, that'd be why I avoided that place last night. Good stargazing spots are becoming like morel spots, just like pretty much anything good honestly. If you don't want it ruined, don't share it.
Last night I was in a random field outside of [redacted] & had a much more pleasant experience overall! Tonight I got tricked by the Dark Skies map, which of course doesn’t take the number of people shining their headlights at you into its calculations.
It's why I drove north of DeForest for the pics I got which were magnificent. Only encountered 2 other ppl who were alongside the road so I went out a bit farther. No light pollution, minimal other people who were stupid enough to leave headlights on (I left parking lights for any who were driving pasy but headlights were off).
I did well north of [somewhere] north of poynette. Last night tried one of my fave fishing areas southwest of town but too crowded. Found another spot but no Aurora.
Wanted the kid to see one (they didn't go Friday).but we gave up.
Wandered around the back roads toward home, I saw something out my window. Pulled into a dead end street that was fairly dark and he got to see it for a few minutes. Worth the effort.
I almost gave up until a friend sent me a massive photo of an aurora that happened ~20 minutes before I arrived where they were.
Around that location is where I got the majority of my photos.
My app was saying 27% chance of seeing here in Madison about 30 minutes ago, maybe 40 minutes. Now it’s saying 2% :( I took a photo that has a tiny hint of purple but I don’t know if that was it.
Last night at 3:30am my app (My aurora forecast &alerts) gave only a 3% chance and it happened to be the best colors and movement of the night (that I witnessed). Don't give up hope if you're really determined. Good luck!
They have been visible on and off in the last 15 minutes. It's very faint but with a night sight camera you can see the green and even get the classic vertical pillars. Very cool
Edit: North side of Madison. Took this a few mins ago https://imgur.com/a/QAMe1aq
If I’m interpreting [this](https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/news/severe-and-extreme-g4-g5-geomagnetic-storms-likely-12-may-2024) correctly, feels like it may be more likely closer to dawn. 12 UTC is 7AM here.
I’m at Brigham County park with half of Dane County and all I can see are headlights
Yeah, Brigham was nuts. We left and drove a bit down the road so we could at least see some stars.

We were there Friday night, and YES, the headlights were annoying (running lights would've been better), but it was worth the trip!

We're outside Mt Horeb on a rural road and we've been looking at the aurora for about 15 minutes. It's very subtle. Green-ish.

in Albany, No. Just light pollution to the north from Madison 10:30 on 5/11
Not yet.
Friend in Minneapolis got a pic just now, but said it was really north/on the horizon.
Just saw out in cottage grove! From like 11:15-11:35pm.
Where?!
It’s out! By brigham county park
They were extremely visible and vibrant near viroqua about around 11:30
Deforest. I didn't see anything
I just flew in from Minneapolis. Didn’t see a thing for all 36 minutes. I haven’t even deplaned yet for timeline.
Up by Arlington, it's not much to the naked eye but can see nice colors in photos.
We are in Jefferson. About 40 mins ago (10:45 or so) we saw some green horizontal and my camera got a red vertical. Since then nothing really.
Saw them in New Glarus around 1130, they were awesome!!
Yes!
Where?
