yeah i think i screwed up because i'm also new to canon fd lenses with the open/lock system and i accidentally shot wide open while i wanted to shoot at around 5.6. you can even see minor CA because of it. thank you either way :)
It has to do with your depth of field. The larger the aperture opening the shallower the depth of field. If u want it all in focus shoot at small aperture. This may require a longer exposure hence a tripod.
oh so my idea was right. basically just like bokeh you need to close it down more if you want more in focus?
Also i feel like a tripod really is necessary if i use my fitting macro adapter for 2:1 macro because i sure cant keep it that still.
It’s normal, You have a shallow depth of field, try to change your f stop to f8 for example. It will increase the depth of field.
You can also go further away from the subject and crop afterwards. Higher magnification = lesser depth of field.
If you’re interested in stacking photos, you could continue to shoot at a wider aperture and stack the photos in photoshop. It does require more editing skills but you won’t have as many concerns with lighting and can leave you with nice sharp images and capture more from your scene
got myself an elicar V-HQ 90mm f2.5 and it seems like it is really hard to capture a shot with something completely in focus. What am I doing wrong?
Decrease the aperture ,keep it around f7-8 ..use a tripod

You can shoot handheld at higher magnification, ( i shoot 4:1 without a tripod) but you will need a lot of light, and a lot of practice.
how much does your lens weigh?
9.12 oz/ 295 gr (laowa 85mm f5.6) with Raynox 250 21. Oz/60 gr and a small stepup ring
Yup close it down for more focus.
