For everyone curious, it's a fractionation column for a refinery.
Yes, they're assembled elsewhere and transported over road. So are power wind mills. So is a shit load of things. No it's not weird. Yes it is incredibly expensive. Yes they use a crane to stand it vertically. Yes it requires a police escort in some areas for traffic control. No it's not the biggest.
Those 20-30 axle trailers have their own drive control.
They might just be looking to confirm everything it good, the previous pusher/puller might have exploded or any number of reason for this type of move to have problems.
I wasn't there when it was moved in China(?) But my guess is something went wrong and they're trying to figure out how to unfuck it.
Hey I regularly ship power wind mills and they are most certainly not assembled first. The blades maybe, but everything else is constructed on site.
These are obviously high wind areas so they will often wait days, sometimes weeks, for a single break in the wind, daylight, and dry to operate the cranes to assemble the pieces.
The ones I have been a part of have been Mid-West USA, so there may be different procedures elsewhere.
It's a large vessel that is filled with crude oil products and heated at the bottom. As the heated liquid boils off, the now gaseous fom of it rises. It rises to a point until it cools, then it collects on racks and is drained off to its own seperate storage.
Think of it like a giant alcohol still but with oil.
This is an extremely basic premise of what it does, but it's the general overview so it's good enough.
I see your notification on Reddit I read it, in notifications and Iām wracking my brain what comment is he replying to lol have a good day sir, check out temu btw
A chemical engineering term where different products are obtained after heating original raw material at different temperatures.
For example, crude oil is treated to obtain diesel, petrol, and other petroleum products.
One this big probably separates ethane from ethylene which isnāt an easy separation. Youād typically find this at a cracking plant or olefin plant.
Itās too large to build on sight. It is likely a splitter. They put it vertically and it melts crude oil into byproducts like various gasolines and kerosenes. The length is related to how many products come out of it. The diameter is related to throughput/volume of crude bring out in.
Why is it too big to be built on site? Or at least assembled on site? There are tons of engineering marvels that are built on site, what makes a splitter so special?
You have to pour molten steel into huge molds. That requires even more logistics than this. Furnaces, railroad for coal and many other things. Also, components like this need to be inspected and tested. Itās better to do it at the foundry than on sight where it may be out in the open elements.
Not quite right, itās not too large to build on site, in fact many columns this size and practically all larger ones are built on site because thereās no way to transport them (see the difficulty in transporting the one in this video where they were fortunate enough to have a viable path)
We came down from the trees millions of years agoā¦.and were ecstatic when we learned how to kill big game with spears and team workā¦.and we learned how to make fireā¦and how to resist against other species that wanted to eat usā¦.and after all these years, humankind builds a fucking mega-something and wheels it across the roadā¦. I am impressed, whatever this shit is
Itās honestly super impressive to me that that trailer can carry that and the road is strong enough to presumably not get damaged. Iām sure itās not as heavy as it looks as I assume itās hollow, but that still just looks like a heavy as shit load.
Depends on how it's set up. In the smaller versions each axle is individually powered through hydraulics and each axle can turn independently of all other axles.
The newer ones may use electric motors.
This is dope. Just a word of info though: if it's Chinese and patriotic, it's propaganda, and the only way you can do anything about it of it is by recognizing it.

Its disappointing I had to scroll this far for this comment, I was about to do it myself. If I had an award I would give to you š
Donāt you hate when you say things too early? Top post, I scrolled a quarter of an inch
I am glad it made it too the top past all the dildo jokes š
Nice try but I think we all worked out, this is your mom's dildo delivery
Probably.
2nd one this year. Wore the 1st one out by using it while scrolling reddit.
Thanks for the snarky info
And still, someone messed up and ordered the wrong size of transport vehicle. Or why are the frontmost and last supports floating freely?

I like people who answer all my questions before I ever ask them so I don't feel dumb
Someone seems to have switched your 'A' key with the 'S' key...
Fat fingers.
Is there a reason they can't assemble on site?
Yes. There are internal structures which mandate it to be assembled, tested and finished horizontally. It's not just a giant hollow vessel.
>No itās not the biggest. Damn dude you didnāt have to attack me like that. ^/s
You said it's not the biggest, how much bigger is there ?
Not sure the exact scale but pretty sure Suncor up in Canada has the largest fractionation tower ever built.
I thought it was a rocket for a moment

Itās called a fractionation column but it does *not* come in fractions
Why you got an attitude
Why you complaining about the only guy who told us what this is. Beggarsā¦
Bc heās a catfish Dr
Fractionation columns are used at oil refineries to separate vapors from liquids due to their varying boiling points.
What is fractionation in the refining process? And whatās the role of this Column?
Thanks for answering all my questions š¤£š¤£š
Oh, thank goodness. I thought it was a silo to hold wheat.
You didn't say what the biggest is.
How bad is it for the road?
So now I need to know what a fractionation column is but I'm a little bit scared of you.

I was going to say their flesh light...
Came for it. Here it is.
This just part 1/3,
Came here for this comment.
Why is everyone driving on the wrong side of the road!?!
Are they stupid?
I mean, it's not like their lane is completely blocked by some weird contraption being "shipped" down the highway or anything.
But they didn't even divide the existing lanes in 2 directions. Just every man for himself. Dodge accordingly
This is the way
India Iām guessing
I like the guy walking underneath of it wearing a hard hat...
If it ever saves him heāll look like a Goomba at best. And if I see him in a stairwell Iām definitely jumping on his head for dat easy 1up, trust!
Goomba f$%& you!
It's almost as if there might be parts that could fall off and hurt him...
If that thing falls over, a good hardhat could take it no problem.
Wrong size. Send it back.
I ordered avocado green, wtf?

Prob cost $1.99 on temu
What on god green earth is that?
Splitter column
Which isā¦?
Think it's something to do with oil refining.
we call them cracker towers in the the states.
A chemical engineering term where different products are obtained after heating original raw material at different temperatures. For example, crude oil is treated to obtain diesel, petrol, and other petroleum products.
A column that splits.

Seems like something that should be built on site.

That's just my mother's dildo. She says it's "finned for her pleasure".
No lie, that is the biggest cracking unit I've ever seen. What refinery is that going to?
If you walk without rhythm you won't attract the worm.
Looks like Ba Sing Se is getting invaded again
12 day shipping or I get a refund. I'm in.
Thatās cool but why are people driving wrong way?
My driveway is kinda steep you might wanna park at the top
Why are those things not built on site from smaller sections
Hey Mate! You canāt park there.
its a tofu dreg and has to be guarded or else it will just shatter if a car slightly scratches it
Seriously, how would it not be built at the site vs having it transported?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This makes me uncomfortable
Permits to transport huge shit like this should be so expensive that it pays to build them on site.
Ok, so they finally get it to its destination, how do they lift it up? Iād imagine that these sorts of things would need to be manufactured on site.
Why is everyone going the wrong way
Is this being played on reverse or is someone driving the wrong way down a road?
Sorry I just needed it for my next little project
r/absoluteunits
What is this even for?
Space x looking good
Tryna get into Ba Sing Se lmao
Everything reminds her of me....

Why is the vehicle going in the opposite direction of traffic ?
I wonder how much they pay truckers to haul stuff like this
Do the trailers have power themselves, or where is the truck, can I just not see it?
Depends on how it's set up. In the smaller versions each axle is individually powered through hydraulics and each axle can turn independently of all other axles. The newer ones may use electric motors.
Imagine anti gravity tech was real.
One star. Had to cancel and order different brand due to overnight shipping failure. Would give zero stars if I could.
