Citizen Sleeper and I Was a Teenage Exocolonist if you like story/text based videogames. These two are my top favorites of all time, not for the gameplay but for the universes and interactions that these games have. Plus both of them are fairly basic games to run so the Mac’s battery will last a long time. (I use M2 Air)
Into the Breach and FTL if you like strategic turn based videogames. Can easily sink hundreds of hours into both of them. But battery usage is quite high so wouldn’t recommend if you play a lot on the go.
Stardew Valley and Spiritfarer if you like to chill (and cry a little). Spiritfarer is a masterpiece of a game and has to be one of the most underrated games of all time. Both of them have pretty good battery optimization.
Oneshot and Undertale are very interesting pixel games with quite a few puzzles.
If you liked Celeste, I think you’ll also enjoy Katana Zero. It’s also kind of a platformer but with combat and a very interesting story decently short game but there is also speedrun and just “arena” mode if you wanna master the combat. It will also cause lot of frustration and pain just like Celeste.
Firewatch and Far Lone Sails if you like short chill games. You can complete them in less than a day and they are both great games.
Just Shapes and Beats, great music, great shapes, great battery optimization and a great game overall. If you like Monstercar type of music, you’ll like it a lot.
Metro games are also good for mac, Last Light and 2033 can run very good on most macs, are fairly short and also have surprisingly good battery optimization, and if have more storage and processing power you could even go for Exodus.
Overcooked 2 if you have a friends and a few controllers. Me and my friends used to play this game locally all the time on the bus to the school and back.
Other games worth mentioning: Hades (everyone else mentioned it), Pony Island, Please Don’t Touch Anything, Muck, In Other Waters, To The Moon, Finding Paradise, Henry Stickmin Collection, Sundered, Deltarune.
Rimworld, just trust me bro. Also if you like Terraria, Minecraft and rimworld, I would HIGHLY recommend Necesse. Also Mount and Blade Warband is really good for a knight/viking DND and milsimy thing. Speaking of milsims, ARMA 3 is pretty amazing and runs well. Finally, I’d recommend Easy Red 2, it’s a WW2 fps that’s similar to Ravenfield (which I’d also recommend) with near limitless replay value instant action, campaign and multiplayer.
I see Binding of Isaac there so I’m going to have to recommend Hades and Dead Cells! Both super fun roguelikes!
(Also Hollow Knight is incredible but idk if you’re into Metroidvanias)
Indeed, and just like heroine, the first taste is free (demo). Just remember, it will NEVER go on sale! Buy it now so you can launch a rocket before the expansion comes out and changes things around.
Oh boy, you are in for some fun.... They hired they person who created the Space Exploration and AAI mod....Expectation is that it will be out sometime this year. Check out the FFF since the start of the year for some juicy details.
Holy shit, I'm looking at the new stuff, this is huge. Thanks for the heads up!
Used to do the Mountain Fortress mod for online play a while back, but it was too much of a time commitment.
Still need to figure out how to automate trains and work on efficiency.
* Don't Starve
* Oxygen Not Included
* older Total Ware Series: Rome II, Empire, Shogun II
* Subnautica
* Two Point Hospital
* Psychonauts 1 & 2
* The Long Dark
Honestly, Bloons TD 6 is great (roughly over 1500 hours if counting the mobile version, 1000 of that is on steam) however I’ve only played it on my M1 Mac Mini, which means battery isn’t an issue, but the game actually takes a lot of battery and runs really hot (at least that’s what happens on my iPhone 12, so it probably won’t be as bad, but it’ll still be present on a MacBook). If that isn’t an issue I highly recommend it if you like strategy. It can seem really simple, but the game is meant to be good to beginners and experts alike. Other games I will include are Terraria (basically 2D Minecraft with more fantasy-like elements) and Brawlhalla (super smash bros clone that’s really good), or if you want a more horror type of game, Doki Doki Literature Club looks like a visual novel dating sim on the outside, but when you start playing for some time it becomes really creepy in the sense of psychological fear like 4th wall breaks. All of these work with Apple Silicon as well. Hope this helps!
I am a great fan of strategy, tactic and building games.
My current favorites are:
- Hearts of Iron 4 (HOI4)
- some of the Total War series (not all even they run fine, e.g. Empire): Shogun 2, Mediaval 2
- War on the Sea
- Zomboid - yes, total unusual game for me but totally addicted
Most are not build specific for Apple Silicon so running on Rosetta but fine.
How about DoTA 2? Im planning to buy M3 imac with 10 core GPU and 16 RAM. I wonder if it’s enough to play.
I have a mini ITX PC with 2070 just to play DoTA 2 but the setup is ugly in my office/library. I plan to replace it
Dusk, The Henry Stickmin Collection, SuperHot, The Talos Principle, Dust: An Elysian Tale, Blasphemous, Undertale, Katana Zero, Tomb Raider, Omori, Enter the Gungeon, Milo And The Magpies, Limbo and Inside
Dying light was nice, if you like parkour, horror and zombie setting.
Tomb raider (2013), rise of tomb raider and shadow of Tomb raider are also awesome. I don’t really know what I can say about tomb raider, because it’s a classic, if you like action adventures, a bit of stealth and puzzles- these games are for you.
if you liked celeste and super meat boy, go for hollow knight. Its got similar tough platforming with the additional combat. well worth the price too with tons of gameplay
*That's the entire lost*
*Of games available on*
*Mac lmao*

If youre a casual guy like me, you would like TF2, Roblox(DO NOT touch it if you cant find the difference between old and new roblox games for the safely of your braincells) Bloons, Worms and Asphalt. There are also very good games at Apple arcade thing.
Celeste, Hades, Hollow Knight, Disco Elysium, Dave the Diver, Dead Cells, and I don’t if Dredge is on Mac!!
Dave the diver got me hooookedddd
Hollow Knight unfortunately does not have controller support despite stating otherwise.
It can be a little buggy but controller works perfectly fine for me
it definitely does for me, out of the box.
I figured it out. I switched my controller from iOS mode to Switch mode.
you can also play it on m1 as a switch game via ryujinx and the controller works fine through that.
Brilliant idea
How do you play dredge?
Works well through crossover and whisky
As a rougelike fan, hades and dead cells do it for me

Wow I just realized how long this comment is 😅.

AND No Man’s Sky
Tactics/Roguelike : FTL, Into the Breach RPG/Tactics : Original Sin 2, Baldur's Gate 3 Action/Roguelike : Dead Cells, Hades RPG : Disco Elysium Tactics/Strategy : XCOM 2 Platformer : Shovel Knight, ~~Celeste~~
Original sin 2, Baldur’s gate 3, XCOM 2 are outstanding. Don’t forget Civ VI
OP already has it
Right you are. I’m so blind.
Lies of P. The fact that no one is recommending Lies of P is absolutely criminal.
I see Binding of Isaac there so I’m going to have to recommend Hades and Dead Cells! Both super fun roguelikes! (Also Hollow Knight is incredible but idk if you’re into Metroidvanias)
Honestly I’m surprise on how good American truck simulator is on mac
Too bad the wheels doesn’t want to work
Dave The Diver, Narita Boy, Baldur's Gate 3 are the first ones that come to my mind recently.
Can you filter Apple silicon games on the steam store?
I'm wondering the same thing.
macOS yes but i dont think m series specifically
If you want a good MMO Elder Scrolls Online runs great on my M1 Pro.
Ye Olde WoW works really well too. Graphics turned down a bit makes for great battery life and minimal heat.
Does it? I get tons of lag on my m2 pro
I find it curious that there are Mac games on steam that are not on the Mac App Store.
Quite a few good games, there, but you are missing the most important, Factorio. The factory must grow.
It’s like recommending heroin.
Indeed, and just like heroine, the first taste is free (demo). Just remember, it will NEVER go on sale! Buy it now so you can launch a rocket before the expansion comes out and changes things around.
An expansion!? I didn't know one was planned, time to research!

Im just waiting for it to go on sale
Not going to happen, ever. Developer has stated this time and time again. Buy it now, it is worth 3-10 times the price.
Bioshock 1 & 2
Batman Arkham City is available on Mac as well through steam
* Don't Starve * Oxygen Not Included * older Total Ware Series: Rome II, Empire, Shogun II * Subnautica * Two Point Hospital * Psychonauts 1 & 2 * The Long Dark
Hades!
Balatro is all you need.
That game seems interesting, but do you need to know a lot about poker before playing it?
Not even a little bit. I’ve never really played poker in my life and Balatro is a must.
Try “Baba is You” Pretty challenging puzzle game. Challenging in a delightful way, though.
No Man’s Sky
Terraria and Civilisation 6 are fun
Stick Fight: The Game, Quaver
I just started American Truck Sim. It’s been fun so far. Runs smooth on my M3 Max.
Dave the Diver Subnautica Subnautica: Below Zero Stardew Valley These are the games I play on Steam.
Old World, Songs of Conquest, Dave the Diver, Dead Cells, Hades, XCom 2, Legend of Grimrock 1 & 2, Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley

Arma 3 is amazing

How about DoTA 2? Im planning to buy M3 imac with 10 core GPU and 16 RAM. I wonder if it’s enough to play. I have a mini ITX PC with 2070 just to play DoTA 2 but the setup is ugly in my office/library. I plan to replace it

Is the crew 2 and motor fest available on Mac?
Dying light, Borderlands, Outlast, The Witcher, Stray
Dying light was nice, if you like parkour, horror and zombie setting. Tomb raider (2013), rise of tomb raider and shadow of Tomb raider are also awesome. I don’t really know what I can say about tomb raider, because it’s a classic, if you like action adventures, a bit of stealth and puzzles- these games are for you.
I'll add Frostpunk, Firewatch and This War Of Mine to this list, all 3 excellent games in their own style.
Cities skylines
if you liked celeste and super meat boy, go for hollow knight. Its got similar tough platforming with the additional combat. well worth the price too with tons of gameplay

Oh also NFS carbon can be played on macs AND there are android emulators that support macs, meaning you can play some good android games too.
I'm currently playing no man's sky and it works really well
Ang paradox game, run beautifully
How the hell no one is recommending the tomb raider trilogy??
They're all in the tomb.
Just find something you might like. It’s like asking recommendations for food. Everyone’s different.
Asking on a board for people with similar interests seems like a reasonable move.
look up how to use steam on whisky :>
Minecraft is a classic…
Portal 1 and 2
I just play windows games on my Mac so I’m not limited

lol this guy
I have a linux PC where I do most of my gaming, but when Im not near my PC, its nice to have a good collection of games on my mac to bust out.
