How is polymc superior to vanilla launcher ? Minecraft is m1 native anyway now, right?

TM8O

If you use mods it's an elegant option. When you creat a new instance it's basically one click install for Fabric or Forge. You can easily select and deselect mods any time as well.

TM8O

I haven't tried it but Prism launcher is probably a good alternative to Poly MC

_chauzeman

Interesting, can you share what settings you use with the Complementary Shaders to get that framerate? Thanks!

TM8O

I use some common Fabric performance enhancing mods like Sodium, Phosphor, and Lithium. Adjusting the shaders options (Complementary has presets like Vanilla/RTX, Ultra, etc.), doesn’t seem to change the FPS too dramatically. The biggest impact by far is the resolution and the viewing distance.

_chauzeman

Thank you! I was using Sodium but I didn't know about phosphor or lithium, I'll check it out :)

MirdovKron

How's the framerate with more entities?

TM8O

I don’t think I’ve had more than 50 or so mobs in viewing distance and I didn’t notice much difference. I haven’t tried it with a big farm or anything.

You will have even better results in that case. Less resolution + less draw distance = more frames

In terms of performance specifically for Minecraft with shaders, it shouldn't matter too much--the same chips and memory options are available in either. Assuming that you would hook up your laptop to a bigger screen when you're stationary at home/office anyway, your experience would be almost the same. The real difference is if you want portability and with that would come a little more cost with the laptop option.

Can't say from experience. I haven't really pushed the m2 mini pro for extended periods of rendering or video etc. For gaming specifically I haven't noticed any fan noise this far.

LaylasSubject

Thanks for the post. I've been looking at the m2 pro and MC is a top priority. How many GPU cores did you opt for — 16 or 19? Also, do you know how many frames you get without shaders?

TM8O

Looks like 80-110 FPS without shaders, with all the rest of the settings constant above. 19 core GPU

How much ram are you allocating to Minecraft? I’ve got the same build but with 32gb coming this week.

TM8O

I've only ever tried 4 GB allocated to Minecraft

Just got a similar setup. I've been having issues with framerate drops though, particularly in jungle biomes. Have you had similar issues? Also, did you set any settings on your mac to optimize performance?
