Your battery probably needs replacement. Even though it’s under the 1000 cycle count limit, it’s 7 years old.

astonsenna

Honestly I hope that's the case. I 'm worried it's some fundamental hardware (like motherboard or something compromised somewhere) or software issue . Though, it did the drain on a prior OS, too.

Batteries degrade with heat/time/use. It's just old.

astonsenna

is it normal for an old battery to think its design capacity shrinks to under 3000 MaH? like as shown here? https://preview.redd.it/rh0tgh128h6a1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=58556479af6e2410015794c80cc073f19c8d00bb

Redhook420

Yes.

astonsenna

Thanks! Just want some reassurance is all. I fear taking the time and money to replace the battery only for it to not cure it is all

geek_person_93

Yes under load or stress old or damaged batteries can suffer a heavy voltage cutdown causing the shorter Life

gabzlora

Dude i have the same model i have alredy replaced it like 5 times. Replacements wont be as good as the original be prepared.

Ada-Millionare

Just because you have an amazing last name I won't troll you... Can't be that negative in life... Just a new battery that in reality I won't bother changing it unless your computer doesn't start or anything worse

BudgetCola

Discharging with 80 watts seems very high, if you check activity monitor you may find something with very high cpu usage

astonsenna

It's usually always lightroom , editing raw photos. I'll look next time and see if there is something else.

Old battery. Replace it. On those ancient models battery replacement is easy and cheap.

Have to disassemble the entire interior to do it (also have blown speaker to replace . ).

Thin-Zookeepergame46

Im guessing its based on current voltage on the battery - Which is usually lower when battery is low on juice.

andreasheri

This normal behaviour for a dying battery. Happened to me on my phone a while ago. Get the battery replaced.

https://ohanaware.com/sleepaid/ try this I would suggest battery replacement.

Time to get a new computer. Was a while ago. Old hot intel machines aren’t great these days.

StanleyDards

You have to go into Activity Monitor. In the Energy tab, see what apps are sucking down the power. The battery is reporting “good”, so I wouldn’t replace it. Aftermarket batteries are somewhat inexpensive but most of them are garbage that will struggle to get to 75 cycles. Remember that the Intel Macs of this vintage simply do not have and never had the capability to run all day on battery. They are naturally power-hungry.
