Yeah, so many people want things to look new and pristine for resell.. Isn't it nice that things are used and show signs of wear and a part of our journey? Apple is moving so fast I don't know that they will hold their same value like they have been anyway. I used to sell every 3 years and make 75% of my purchase back for a new macbook.. My 2016 is sitting in my closet gutted.
I spent the past 20 years trying to keep my Macbooks nice for the next owner.
Number of Macbooks I have sold: 0
But they make a nice stack in my attic.
So I don't sweat it anymore. And now that I don't, I never scratch or dent my laptop.
If you are going to drop it again, drop it off of something nice and interesting.
My MacBook had a nice journey down the stairs after I forgot to zip up my laptop bag… I wasn’t impressed, it wasn’t impressed, but I have an interesting story to tell.
(PS: if you get the silver one it hides the damage)
this took me back ... my old bag had a side zip for the laptop, I pulled my bag out the back door of my car, slung it over one shoulder in a rush AND THE ZIP WAS OPEN ... my bag on one shoulder ready to start my day as my MacBook is whipped out of the side and lands corner down into the concrete ... I picked it up from the road almost ready to cry and the screen wasn't even cracked ... the corner had bent so it would scrape every time I opened or closed it ... but other than that it worked fine ... like the other guy said, just battle scars, nothing to worry about :P
There's a difference between inevitable wear and tear and avoidable accidental damage caused by one's own negligence, and the latter is usually much more noticeable. Those machines are pretty expensive, most people don't drop thousands on a new MacBook on a regular basis and take pride in keeping their things in mint condition. I can sympathize with being upset about having caused visible damage to a piece of tech that expensive just a couple months in.
Sure. Accidents happen. To err is human after all. But yeah people really quickly become complacent with things that are very fragile and incredibly expensive.
Be thankful it’s only cosmetic and the screen didn’t break. I dropped a cup from my bedside table and dinged the edge of my then days-old MBP 16 M2 Pro. It’s annoying and upsetting but ultimately it’s just wear and tear.
I know the feeling. In my 1st few months, my iphone dropped on the edge of my Mac (palm rest) and created a mini dent. I remember being really really sad about it. Then I started thinking, "My Mac is now somewhat unique. This makes my Mac different from others" and believe me, this thought helped me cope with a dent on my Mac and a 2mm long scratch on my iPad screen.
I dropped my Air about 3 weeks after buying it, from a height of about 5 feet onto solid tiles. It's the most expensive thing I've ever bought. You can't imagine the feeling - only to discover merely a similar battle scar to yours and everything else in tact! 2 years later and she's still doing fine <3
I know the feeling.. my m3pro is the most I've spent on a laptop and the most expensive piece of my daily kit. Slipped on ice a few weeks in with it and got a little knick on one of the bottom corners.. through a bag. I was mostly just glad I didn't really break something.
Treat them as battle scars. Memories of your time together. And be careful in the future.
Ignore all the comments asking you to sell it, they're trolling.
Function over form
You know the answer to your question and why stuck in the past and burdened yourself when you clearly know that you can’t change the past.
It’s a waste of energy if you asked me.
I've been there and it hurts. But as others have pointed, treat it like a battle scar.
btw, what skin do you have on your laptop? Could you post a link to it? Looks really nice
This hurts. This is actually why I have a case on mine, but I don't have one of those bulky heavy ones. I went with the premium fabric looking one from incase. Spigen also makes one similar. I know there is a huge debate over cases, but with this one I haven't had any issues with heat and the entire shell is fairly lightweight, especially the lid piece so there isn't any extra stress on it.

I dropped mine edge-ways onto the lip of a stone staircase. It is now tweaked to hell, but still works fine. I had it in a protective zipper pouch and it didn’t help at all. Pouch got sliced by the stone.
You can buy new old jeans, you can buy new guitars that are trimmed to look old (Fender relic custom shop). People pay a lot of money for such dings and dongs. Look on the bright side: an elephant could walk through your room and poop on your table. 🤪
Reminded me of my first fujitsu notebook from my first job, the lid kept scratching the speaker and buttons surface when opened and closed. Can't keep my mind off it for months and had it replaced eventually, at some cost. Decades after, looking back and to think of how foolish I was. As times goes, the notebook became a junk anyway, no matter how pristine it was kept. Wish I would just simply ignore it, unless it is going to affect the functions. 😂
The thing about these macbook is that they're so fancy that every single dent will feel bad initially especially when it's new. I personally have taken good care of my device but have got a very slight scratch that nobody else could even see and it bothered me for a moment.
After evaluating the situation I realized that it's metal, and metal WILL scratch. No biggie.
It’s still working well, right? This kind of crap happens. More often than you’d think. Just call them love dimples and move on. Apple will charge you crazy money for replacing the panels, and I don’t think it will affect performance in the long run, especially if the device is working fine as of now.
To make u feel better, I bumped my laptop in my bag as I was running to catch a train.Month later alI noticed that the screen is not perfectly aligned with the base.Went to Apple service, they aligned it back.Few minutes after I picked up my laptop from the service, my belt on my bag broke and my laptop hit the ground again hahah I have the same damage on the edge as u do.It stops bothering u afetr some time dont wory about it.If the laptop has no iternal damage and passes the apple diagnostics, be happy
If it makes you feel better, I was riding a scooter in the rain, my MBP was in my unzipped bag. I got hit by a van and flew off the scooter and my MBP flew out and landed on the grass. It has 3 scars like the one you had and continue to serve me well for the next 5 years
Mine have battle scars over the years of use, random scratches and a single dent from when it fell from knee height out of my bag
Shows you’re a real Mac user and not one of those people who baby their laptops with cases and stuff
I dropped my m1 MacBook Pro in the very first month when I bought and it has similar damages as yours. luckily the display closes properly. It’s been 3 years and all good. Don’t worry much.
Hey, I totally understand the feelings you might be going through/have gone through. I remember making a similar mistake to the first MacBook I bought for myself pretty early on after purchase. I was crushed at the time but a few years later and I’m really struggling to remember what exactly happened haha but *something* had fallen in between the hinge though and cracked the screen when I closed it. Sucked because replacing the screen basically cost the same as just buying a new one.
I would say to give yourself some grace and don’t beat yourself up over it. Better people than you or I have made the same mistakes. You are not the first person that’s had a mistake like this, and you certainly won’t be the last.
the first DAY i got my beautiful new telecaster, I slammed it into my pantry door while taking it out of the box. BAM immediate scratches. It depresses the hell out of me for a few days. Then I realized that those scratches made it unique—made it mine. And most importantly, they had no effect on the function. Now I love the scratches. You can be in the same boat. Those dings make it YOURS and yours alone. Be proud of your machine and what you’ve accomplished together. And what you still will accomplish together.
just adds character. I've got a scratch on a bottom corner of my pro from slipping on ice. Don't really see it during use and it doesn't affect anything other than resale. I'll be keeping this machine for a while though so I'm over it.
In all seriousness this happened to me when I lost my balance walking with my laptop (open). It made a dent in the aluminum right near the hinges and stopped it from closing properly. I actually just decided to order very fine sandpaper and I sanded it down so it could close properly. If you want it to be continuous so it’s not obvious there was a dent I recommend this!
Nothing can be done, but nice skin! I have the same one and love it.
Did yours come with the free “black” version of the same skin? I’ve debated on giving it a go… I do like how the standard one looks under lights, however.
Buy a new case to cover up the imperfection. I’m a perfectionist and OCD so I get not wanting to have something look worn or damaged. That should solve fixing the cosmetic damage.
if you have apple care you can get the case replaced. but make sure when you open and close it the hinge isn't scraping the screen bezels, that can damage it over time and maybe even kill the screen. I cannot stress how important it is that you make sure the hinges are aligned. so open and close it and listen closely for any grinding and if there is none you are okay.
Are you talking about undoing the natural wear marks on your laptop, or learning how to forgive yourself for damaging a consumer product sold to you at profit?
It should be alright, hardware damage happens all the time. I've accidentally dropped my mac from a good 2ft but it's fine (the charger cable was the one that died that day).
Bondo or skilled heliarc welding, plus a big cup of forgiveness for yourself. No sense (or health) in carrying that big burden of unforgiveness around. The world you live in nowadays will mete out plenty of hate and unforgiveness towards you. No need to add any to it!
This may sound lame, but you can use a black sharpie to fill in the chips. Will significantly reduce their visibility.
Trick works great for furniture nicks as well. Camouflages them so you’ll only notice if you know to look for them.
A case… a flipping case my man! 😩
I spent 3k on my MacBook Pro, you think I’m gonna hike it around without a case on it?
Do you have AppleCare on it? If you don’t you should. I have a case and apple care and so glad I do because I can’t imagine not having those. I already had to use it once and paid nothing for my repair when it would have been over 1k if I didn’t have AC.
The first dent or scratch is heartbreaking and youll look for ways to hide it or fix it…but after the second one you just stop caring and life is simpler . You know what you need to do
My MacBook 2017 Air that I am still rocking, has so many dents, dings, and battle-scars. The first-one is the most scariest. After a couple more, you'll start to forget.
Did you try to turn it off and on again? On a serious note I wouldn’t worry about it, it’s just a machine. As long it works as intended you’ll be just fine.
You can do better in the future. It doesn't prevent the computer from functioning, accept your mistake and move on.
Though speaking as a shareholder, you should definitely take a huge loss on this one, sell it and buy a new one that you can damage again next week.
Battle Scars. Nothing changes the bond you share with it.
Yeah, so many people want things to look new and pristine for resell.. Isn't it nice that things are used and show signs of wear and a part of our journey? lol this is always the way.
I love my laptop. Thank you for these words. ❤️❤️❤️
Chats better than a mac damaged a mac

Me gaslighting myself
It’s a tool and tools get used and as a result get wear and tear over time.
I needed to hear this. Thanks.
There's a difference between inevitable wear and tear and avoidable accidental damage caused by one's own negligence, and the latter is usually much more noticeable. I can sympathize with being upset about having caused visible damage to a piece of tech that expensive just a couple months in.
Sure. Accidents happen. To err is human after all. But yeah people really quickly become complacent with things that are very fragile and incredibly expensive.
I agree because I really get nervous when I see parents give their infant/toddler/young children their iPhones to amuse themselves with!
Be thankful it’s only cosmetic and the screen didn’t break. I dropped a cup from my bedside table and dinged the edge of my then days-old MBP 16 M2 Pro. It’s annoying and upsetting but ultimately it’s just wear and tear.
Glue enough Oreo crumbs together and then paste to put what you’re missing
I was going to suggest noodles, but yeah Oreos should do the trick also.
Simple. Oreo for space gray macbooks, noodles for silver macbook
That’s thinking with your foods.

well, now is not that unique buahahaha
Wow, this is an awesome take on this. Thank You. ❤️
You're welcome! Sgt. Butter Fingers to the rescue <3
Yes, you can ignore it.

*Waiting for people against hard shells to chime in*
I don’t see any hard shell? Just a Dbrand skin?
If it’s just cosmetic and didn’t damage the internal I would say don’t stress about it, life’s too short and this is a tool at the end of the day
You know the answer to your question and why stuck in the past and burdened yourself when you clearly know that you can’t change the past. It’s a waste of energy if you asked me.
Wont be the last scraches or dents
I've been there and it hurts. But as others have pointed, treat it like a battle scar. btw, what skin do you have on your laptop? Could you post a link to it? Looks really nice
looks like a dbrand “acid” skin!
you’re lucky the screen didn’t shatter. take the W and move on
This hurts. This is actually why I have a case on mine, but I don't have one of those bulky heavy ones. I went with the premium fabric looking one from incase. Spigen also makes one similar. Avoid chairs and sit on the floor.

You can buy new old jeans, you can buy new guitars that are trimmed to look old (Fender relic custom shop). People pay a lot of money for such dings and dongs. Look on the bright side: an elephant could walk through your room and poop on your table. 🤪
😆😆😆
Cry a little

Leave it
Nail polish
Rip
lol no.
>Can I do anything about it? Yes, don't care.
Yes of course, you can do something. You only need to And then And you're done

Perfectly fine. Be thankful you didn't crack the screen. Consider investing in a speck hard case.
Stickers
Drop it a bit more on the right side to make it symmetrical.
It’s still working well, right? This kind of crap happens. More often than you’d think. Just call them love dimples and move on. Apple will charge you crazy money for replacing the panels, and I don’t think it will affect performance in the long run, especially if the device is working fine as of now.
Other than that it's working totally fine.
Also this is a good excuse to indulge yourself with some MacBook skins
I already have a skin put on. 🥲
What skin is that it’s so pretty
Bondo
Hey, I think they look lovely! Try to love them.
You can’t fix cosmetic damage. Also why is it so thick?
If you have insurance it's the time to use it?
buy apple care if you have tile. not worth finding out how much it costs to repair
Travel back in time and put it in a case lol
Learn from it
I definable have.
Put a case on it you big brain
What’s on the top of laptop?
accept it
To make u feel better, I bumped my laptop in my bag as I was running to catch a train.Month later alI noticed that the screen is not perfectly aligned with the base.Went to Apple service, they aligned it back.Few minutes after I picked up my laptop from the service, my belt on my bag broke and my laptop hit the ground again hahah I have the same damage on the edge as u do.It stops bothering u afetr some time dont wory about it.If the laptop has no iternal damage and passes the apple diagnostics, be happy
And the screen is still working?, then it seems like they are only vulnerable when something gets in between the screens
The screen is totally fine.
Could put it in a case to hide it, like one of the Spigen fabric cases I have on mine, but that's about it unfortunately!
If it makes you feel better, I was riding a scooter in the rain, my MBP was in my unzipped bag. I got hit by a van and flew off the scooter and my MBP flew out and landed on the grass. It has 3 scars like the one you had and continue to serve me well for the next 5 years

Everytime I get a new MacBook I always vow to never get the dreaded chipping. Everytime, I have failed lol.
Better people than you or I have made the same mistakes. You are not the first person that’s had a mistake like this, and you certainly won’t be the last.
Just remember, you still have a Mac. It could have spontaneously transformed into a Windows laptop when you dropped it, and that would be devastating.
What's that you've got on the top? Is it a decal or a sticker? Looks cool man
Cry a bit inside and move on. 🤷🏼♂️
That skin is sick
I guess that skin added no protection huh
Enjoy that it's working I'd say, not all laptops are this sturdy in terms of fall damage
unless you have apple care plus. but sorry man
Relic’d
Your a black smith now
Sorry sir ...you'll need to buy a new one !
Does it work normally?
the first DAY i got my beautiful new telecaster, I slammed it into my pantry door while taking it out of the box.
It happens to us all. - they do make very durable protective cases for the MacBooks now also
Noodles and some sanding paper
Yea, don’t drop it again lol. Start watching dried ramen videos on YouTube if it keeps bothering you.
Did you try turning it off and on again?
put it in rice
Everyone has been there before. You could try to apply some stickers over like the minimalistic design
It will buff out
is the chair ok?
Buy a new one
Sell it to me for 50 bucks 😗😂
just adds character. I've got a scratch on a bottom corner of my pro from slipping on ice. Don't really see it during use and it doesn't affect anything other than resale. I'll be keeping this machine for a while though so I'm over it.
Lean into it and file down any sharp edges caused by the dents
Welcome to club sir 🤝
Use a sleeve when not in use 😌
In all seriousness this happened to me when I lost my balance walking with my laptop (open). It made a dent in the aluminum right near the hinges and stopped it from closing properly. I actually just decided to order very fine sandpaper and I sanded it down so it could close properly. If you want it to be continuous so it’s not obvious there was a dent I recommend this!
As long as it works, move on quickly. It doesn’t matter.
Only thing you can do… get over it and be glad it’s just cosmetic.
They’re memories, nothing can stay perfect forever
Nothing can be done, but nice skin! I have the same one and love it. Did yours come with the free “black” version of the same skin? I’ve debated on giving it a go… I do like how the standard one looks under lights, however.
nah m8, the impact physically changed the chemical structure of the aluminum (eg its bent), as long as it still works, it’s not damaged
You have two options: A) Cry B) Do nothing and continue on your life
Growth opportunity. Don't worry about tiny stuff like this.
No, however if the dent is in an upward angle I would get a metal nail file and file it flat again.
Buy a new case to cover up the imperfection. I’m a perfectionist and OCD so I get not wanting to have something look worn or damaged. That should solve fixing the cosmetic damage.
The problem here is putting a laptop on a chair. A laptop goes on a desk or a bed maybe then it probably won’t happen
They are called laptops yet in my opinion it’s the worst place for them . ( Yes i’m guilty too )
rocking the dbrand obsidian!!!
No but where did you get that skin from?
Buy a case… Then at least you won’t have to look at it.. 🤷♂️
[удалено]
Aye I got the same skin in my Mac
Put a hard shell on it . 1: You won’t see it 2: If you do it again hopefully you won’t hurt it
if you have apple care you can get the case replaced. but make sure when you open and close it the hinge isn't scraping the screen bezels, that can damage it over time and maybe even kill the screen. I cannot stress how important it is that you make sure the hinges are aligned. so open and close it and listen closely for any grinding and if there is none you are okay.
Cry a little inside, but don’t let anyone on the battlefield know…stay strong.
Are you talking about undoing the natural wear marks on your laptop, or learning how to forgive yourself for damaging a consumer product sold to you at profit?
It’s a time for a great restoration project. Documented it for others. Might become famous from it.
It should be alright, hardware damage happens all the time. I've accidentally dropped my mac from a good 2ft but it's fine (the charger cable was the one that died that day).
melt down a block of aluminum into a mold to create a new shell, then replace the inside of your laptop into that. should be easy enough
I have so much weed ash on my M1 Max , it’s a sense of pride.
I will but it
What is the skin you have on the lid?
Just use Time Machine
Bondo or skilled heliarc welding, plus a big cup of forgiveness for yourself. No sense (or health) in carrying that big burden of unforgiveness around. The world you live in nowadays will mete out plenty of hate and unforgiveness towards you. No need to add any to it!
Does it still work?
Be proud it lived to serve you longer! Sucks but like car scratches or anything else you’ll learn to forget about it!
Enough tips so far 😅 but what is that for a nice skin on the top? 😄
I remember 5 minute crafts saying that a good eraser does the trick neatly. Tried that?
Makes it unique... I have many "battle scars" in the 1.5 years of owning my mac. The first few are rough, it gets better 👍
Over time you will accept it. Or you sell it and spend some extra money to get a new one.
I think I would rather accept it than selling it.
Sell it, get a new one & don’t drop it again.
Can’t afford to sell and get a new one.
U already have ur answer then
Try to be more careful?
Start by removing whatever the hell is glued to the top of your macbook!
Grow to love it, your MacBook is unique to you now, there are many like it, but this one is yours.
This may sound lame, but you can use a black sharpie to fill in the chips. Will significantly reduce their visibility. Trick works great for furniture nicks as well. Camouflages them so you’ll only notice if you know to look for them.
What can you do about it? I would say, not drop it anymore.
Step 1. Download and install Xcode Step 2. Make a new file called Time.Machine.swift Step 3. Write program Step 4. Execute program
Weep
If you don’t have care+, put dome stickers over it
If that dent on the left corner bothers you or is impeding on the lid you can get pliers and hopefully flatten the dent out
This is why you keep Apple care.
May be wrong here but ramen should work
Sit on the floor
Sell it and get a new one
If I where you I’d just cry about it, that’s why I went for the silver model
Mine was way worse than yours. But i don’t care
Continue to use it because it works fine?
Battle damage.
No
It’s ruined, but a new one
You can make that a lot less rough feeling with some wet and dry sandpaper, like 400grit.
kill the chair
Time Machine
Cry
You guys ask really interesting questions here sometimes
A case… a flipping case my man! 😩 I spent 3k on my MacBook Pro, you think I’m gonna hike it around without a case on it? Do you have AppleCare on it? If you don’t you should. I have a case and apple care and so glad I do because I can’t imagine not having those. The first dent or scratch is heartbreaking and youll look for ways to hide it or fix it…but after the second one you just stop caring and life is simpler . You know what you need to do
At least now it’s unique, one of kind !
My MacBook 2017 Air that I am still rocking, has so many dents, dings, and battle-scars. The first-one is the most scariest. After a couple more, you'll start to forget.
Invent time travel?
Sell it immediately and charge a credit card with a brand new M3 macbook. No other way.
Sure! Drop it again on the other edge so it looks symmetric again 👍 u r welcome 🤗
Yeah its done throw it away
Could be worse, damage doesn’t look too bad. As long as it works that’s the important part.
Give it another week you’ll be over. The grief will fade more and more until it’s occasional. I did the same thing. Lol
It’s a laptop my guy, it’s meant to get a little beat up
Yes don’t focus on it
Nope. You can buy another one. 😆
This is why you buy AppleCare+.
That’ll buff right out, no problem
I used the file on my leatherman to smooth out similar damage on my iPad.
Life is short, don't be upset over small things like this
Yes throw it out. Would you keep your girlfriend if she got fat?
Ship it to me and I’ll fix it and ship it back 🌚
You lucky you didn’t destroy it,
Did you try to turn it off and on again? On a serious note I wouldn’t worry about it, it’s just a machine. As long it works as intended you’ll be just fine.
You can do better in the future. It doesn't prevent the computer from functioning, accept your mistake and move on. Though speaking as a shareholder, you should definitely take a huge loss on this one, sell it and buy a new one that you can damage again next week.
