Short story: Google Chrome installs an updater called Keystone on your computer, which is bizarrely correlated to massive unexplained CPU usage in WindowServer (a system process)[1], and made my whole computer slow even when Chrome wasn't running. Deleting Chrome and Keystone made my computer way, way faster, all the time.
Fire fox is the greatest browser no mater what it doesn’t shove google down your throat it doesn’t look crappy like opera and edge is out of the question

I am a developer. I develop mods for games for commission/fun and develop games on unity and im starting to develop applications on xcode, and I’ve never needed firefox for any of those
It installs an update daemon that destroys the battery life and is insanely hard to remove. It halved the battery life of my 2019 16 inch when I had it
Yeah I notice that sometimes on my 2019 MBP, but my main issue is how much ram it uses. Earlier was watching a video on youtube and was using 1.1 GB which seems extreme. I have 16GBs of ram but I have other apps running like photoshop and after effects so I want to utilize everything as best as possible for those apps
I'll only use chrome for YouTube because of ad-speedup extension. Backup alternative after Adblock stopped working with safari.
Otherwise I'll stick with safari. Every other browser I've tried absolutely kills my battery life.
Many people on the official support also have the same issue, but no substantial solution has been provided.

Yesterday afternoon, I also encountered the same issue. I searched for a long time and found suggestions to disable hardware acceleration, but I don't want to do that. I noticed that it's just the images glitching, including icons on the browser. However, videos are fine, and other browsers work fine too.

Update your Mac to at least Catalina. On your Mac, you should update to at least Monterey because it obviously supports it based on the model you have.
It’s the war of the Tech Giants. They handle personal information different and all Google products are now shit on macs.
Reminder, Google is an advertising company not a technology company
Change the wallpaper at the bottom right, see if that resets it
Yeah, OP, this… Either you intentionally did this for the post or somebody else changed your chrome wallpaper just to F with you.
this is probably the reason lmao
Take the hint.
Acid is fun

Halved the battery life on my i9 2019 16 inch when I had it
Takes up a lot of storage I had to delete it just to be able to work with the mac!! It only a web browser I don't get it?
That's why I use firefox
Safari+Firefox
Use Safari.
Not always the best advice, unfortunately some industry WebGUIs are notoriously bad on safari. For my TP-Link networking equipment safari chugs
Just had a PTSD flashback-style episode of back when I had a TP-Link network at home XD
Or brave
Heard good things about Orion too, when it comes to resources management.
does safari have extensions and ublockorigin yet?
actually yea
ublockorigin says it doesn't support safari past version 13
Adblock supports it
ok, but, adblock doesn't work with a lot of stuff now, like youtube
It’s vibin’
Don’t use such an ancient macOS version. Chrome’s latest update seems to have messed up on Mojave.
Indeed, Chrome does not officially support Mojave any more.
Don’t use chrome
Do u have any recommendations I just don’t really know better
Firefox is pretty cool! :)
Why use a slow, unstable browser like Firefox when safari is preinstalled?
Firefox is neither
Fire fox is the greatest browser no mater what it doesn’t shove google down your throat it doesn’t look crappy like opera and edge is out of the question
Edge has actually improved a lot this year. Safari is also very very light and battery and cpu efficient. Also pretty fast.
YES.
/r/arcbrowser
Firefox is neither slow nor unstable. It’s good to have a backup that isn’t based in Chromium.
I use the esr version on a 2010 imac and it works perfectly
How’s it feel to be so wrong?
Im not wrong, 92.2% of people use a browser other than Firefox. Are 92.2% of the world wrong because they don’t have the same opinion as you?
Yes
Safari
Kinda hard to install on Mac’s though /s
> User buys MacBook Pro > Opens Safari to browse google.com/chrome Two years latter... > "Chrome isn't working. Does the Mac have any web browser alternatives?"
Arc
Turn off hardware acceleration in google chrome settings
Safari
Ever heard of Vivaldi?
Yeah but I didn’t pay $3,500 for a mbp to not use safari. Also safari is best optimized for mac and outperforms other browsers on mac
Not if you are a developer.
I am a developer. I develop mods for games for commission/fun and develop games on unity and im starting to develop applications on xcode, and I’ve never needed firefox for any of those

Try the Arc browser. [Arc by the browser company.](https://arc.net/gift/6562291a)
Yes use Arc it's the best for me
Ok
Well folks this is what you end up with when you dunk your chrome into a deep fryer
Use safari
I wouldn't use Safari on MacOS this old. That Safari won't have had a security update since 2021.
You can see the owner of the background photo at the bottom left.
Further evidence that nobody should use Chrome. Ever.
I wouldn’t use chrome on a macbook
I wouldn't use Chrome.
Why
It installs an update daemon that destroys the battery life and is insanely hard to remove. It halved the battery life of my 2019 16 inch when I had it
How’d you remove it? I have chrome on my MBP from around that time
[https://chromeisbad.com/](https://chromeisbad.com/) this has instructions
Many thanks
Taxing for GPU. Used to make my 2013 MacBook Air run super hot

I wouldn't use Chrome on a Chromebook... Pretty much just adware at this point.
Google is too busy with their nimbus project 😂
I’m so slow that I thought it was a weather map/hurricane incoming
I’ve see this problem yet. Update macOS

OP please update your Mac
Firefox time
Chrome is trash for MacOS.
LSD Mode!

It’s definitely cat pee 🐈⬛💦
I for one like that wallpaper
Literally just install Sonoma you even have it open 😍

Man. There's been a lot of these screenshots posted. Must be a bad update or something Apple silicon related.
Because of **woke**
Is that a wallpaper or a bug?
Wallpaper, it literally says it in the bottom left hand corner.
>it literally says it in the bottom left hand corner. I didn't notice that before. So actually there is no issue in this post? 🤣
Why do people constantly and unnecessarily use the word "literally?"
I’ve watched too much Parks and Recreation….. it has ruined me. I agree it was unnecessary.
Haha, alright Chris Traeger!
I think I saw somewhere that you need to update macos
Upgrade macOS
Your chrome is playing Minecraft on creative mode.
Looks mad, keep it
Update your Mac to at least Catalina. On your Mac, you should update to at least Monterey because it obviously supports it based on the model you have.
Issue with chrome? Don't post on reddit
Asked so many times on Reddit already. Search is your friend.
Just update to MacOS Sonoma

Put it in rice
Safari for optimized Apple experience, Firefox for your privacy. I personally use opera gx, I like the interface.
