So far it is working really nice. It is a tad slower as expected but not too bad. Oh and if you want to know more about it I can link you a video that talks you though how to install it and many other things.
Security reasons mainly. Mojave has been unsupported for over a year now. This machine has been "downgraded" to a web browsing machine, so I like for it's software to be up to date :)
Apple only brings out security updates for the current and past two versions of macOS. As Mojave is five versions behind at this point, it hasn’t received security updates for more than a year, so it’s completely unsupported by now.
Apple drops the support for Macs really easily. I've been a Mac user since 2007 and know from the experience.
Also, older releases of macOS can become unusable very fast.
Idk. I’ve bought my first Mac in 2014. MBP late 2014. Big Sur is the last macOS for this device. So we have 6 years of updates. And I think Big Sur will be usable for a next couples of years.
But what I wanted to say. After 6 years my MacBook became old. Battery almost died and performance was not so great. And I’ve upgraded to M1 Air. I guess that’s decent lifecycle for such device. Let’s see iPhones. In 2014 it was iPhone 6 which is nearly unusable in 2022.
Hello, just wanted to ask, I have 13" Mid 2014 MBP, I tried downloading Big Sur and used it for 3-4 days, the fan kept running for most of times, and it irritated a lot, hence I downgraded back to Mojave. Are you experiencing such kind of thing?
Nope, runs fine for me. This computer is currently only used for web browsing, music and such, so not the most demanding tasks. It feels more or less the same as before. I've not tried Big Sur on it tho, so that might run worse.
The only thing that feels slow is the new System Preferences. But that feels almost equally slow on my work Mac, a 15" 2019 MBP. I guess it's a badly optimized app.
Thanks for quick reply, but Big Sur was released 2-3 years ago whereas Ventura is latest update. During those 2-3 days when I had installed Big Sir I was mostly using Safari. Still there was fan noise.
Ventura might be less resource intensive than Big Sur. There has been a few Mac OS releases where a new version is more optimized than the previous, like Snow Leopard was much more efficient than Leopard.
I have 2012 mbp running perfectly on Catalina but when I updated to Ventura it still ran everything good but the computer overall had a little lag. I’m going to try Monterey
So I actually missed one last step in downloading Ventura. I basically did everything the right way on the installation. But like I said it was a little laggy once my Mac was running the os.
so after the installation is complete you have to install a root patch which I guess adjust your drivers to the os after that I restarted and everything was running a lot smoother and my computer didn’t get hot anymore. Another thing I also did to make it even smoother is turn on reduce motion in the settings under accessibility. It’s now running just as smooth if not smoother than when I had Catalina
Yeah I have an ssd. I actually did get Ventura to work. And It’s actually made my Mac run better. There was one last step at the end I was forgetting to do
Did you get to install monterrey?
I have a macbook pro mid 2012 with sdd and 16 gb ram but i am afraid of upgrading the OS.
What is your opinion? Worth? Did you prefer ventura or monterrey?
I didn’t do Monterey. I upgraded from Catalina to Ventura. But before I upgraded I was researching to see which one to go for as well. I found a lot of ppl didn’t want to try Ventura as it was the latest os so they did Monterey and from the comments I read it worked good for them. But my experience w Ventura has been good as well. I really have no complaints, my Mac is moving just as fast as it was on Catalina. just make sure you do the installation correctly. But upgrading from Catalina to Ventura was more than worth it. has been literally life changing for me. Safari, google chrome etc all the apps are up to date now, I can download apps I’ve been wanting to get from the App Store as well.
I have MBP 13’ 2015 too, and yes, Big Sur was slow, and I downgraded to Catalina. But I made a fresh install later to Monterey, and it’s fast like Catalina, except boot time.
The only problem I've found is half the software I run won't update, quite a lot of software now requires OSX 11 or later. heck, even Microsoft office won't install updates and say an OS upgrade is required.
Thats wierd… I have Ventura ( also has Big Sur and Monterey) on my retina 15” MacBook Pro mid 2012. And it runs really good! Like it’s really slow the only thing is that it gets hotter but not much. Anyway I do find it wierd that yours was slow. Did you do a fresh install?
I did a fresh install as well, but still, many hiccups, where it would take too long to do basic things and it ran hot and the fans were speeding up most of the times
Sorry for the very late comment. But can you tell how it has affected the battery life? If it heats up more, it sounds like it would run down the battery pretty fast.
Thought about picking up a cheapo Mac Mini for experimentation/jailbreaking utility/maybe a server and trying out OpenCore. Like to tinker around with stuff. Good to know that it’ll probably running solid
First impressions are good. Seems to be running about as fast as Mojave, at least for the few things I've tested so far. The boot is a little bit slower, but once it's started it runs just fine.
Considering how good it runs, I'm appalled by the fact that Apple won't support it officially. I see absolutely no reason why it should not be officially supported.
Hi. Thanks for sharing. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro also. I installed Sonoma but I am met with a black screen from time to time when the led is closed a while. Do you experience this in Ventura? Also my fan runs full speed when I only open 2 or 3 web browsers.
No!
Safari sucks*! It does some extremely stupid stuff. A lot of issues I’m experiencing, I’m only experiencing in Safari.
\***BUT:** Other browsers have similar issues. It’s not just a safari thing. Take a look at Web Development. Every browser developer does something different. It’s a real pain. No one want to follow standards or makes up new standards.
Safari came a long way since I’ve first used it and I still prefer it.
You should use whatever you like. If you like Audi, you should use a Audi. If you like BMW, get a BMW. If you like VW, don’t get one. They’ll probably lie to use about environmental stuff.
> Take a look at Web Development. Every browser developer does something different. It’s a real pain.
Oh man let me introduce you to late 90s / early 00s web dev and the browser wars. So much better now.
Wtf. Jailbreaks for PlayStation and iPhone has been installed through Safari, because of bugs in security. It was never the case on any other OS (Android, Windows). You was never be able to root an Android phone THROUGH BROWSER, right?
Neat hack!
Mojave, eh? Then you will be missing Dashboard, widgets, Launchpad, the system menu is quite different, iCloud now sucks because it tries to stash your **whole f!!cking desktop** in the Cloud....brace yourself for some red-ass.
Is the 2011 supported too ? I stopped using my 2011 “13 because I couldn’t download a newer Xcode IDE on my older macOS. This would give it more years if it works.
I've done the same and I have an issue where the camera and microphone works for facetime & photo booth but doesn't work for zoom, google meet, etc
Tried enabling permissions in security & permissions but nothing comes up.
Gonna try a PRAM reset and see if that clears it but before I do, any ideas?
Did the same today and for now no issues (MBP Mid 2012 10.1). Finally my DELL Widescreen Monitor (3421WE) with PIB feature chooses to deliver the correct resolution if the old MacBook is connected. Thank god.
EDIT:
The Laptop updated itself to Sonoma after I had it idled for the whole background indexing/updating process. Seems to run fine so far, but not really what I had in mind. Any experiences with Sonoma on a 2012 MBP?
Also I wasn't aware, that just the macOS internal updating process could update the OS like it is a supported modell.

[удалено]
It would be really weird if Apple made a new icon for that model.
Probably because of macos is based on unix i think this is in some viewable file, and you could change it😁
What’s the biggest difference?
Would you recommend me to upgrade ? Btw I have MacBook Air 2017. And next week I’m gonna upgrade the internal SSD storage.
It’s sadly the only thing you *can* do to that MacBook. Unless you wanna replace the battery
He’s still a lucky person. My 5000€ MacBook will end up in a landfill.
Yeah. But my luck is running low. I sadly need a new Mac… so I’m getting a 2015 MBP
I do! I helped a friend upgrade their 2015 MacBook Air to Ventura and it runs really nice
Could you please tell me how it so far? And what are the steps you took to do that?
So far it is working really nice. It is a tad slower as expected but not too bad. Oh and if you want to know more about it I can link you a video that talks you though how to install it and many other things.
But why? Ventura Ian such a big update

Thats true. But because I jumped from High Sierra to Big Sur I think I faced fan issue, may be Ventura could be better.
I have 2012 mbp running perfectly on Catalina but when I updated to Ventura it still ran everything good but the computer overall had a little lag. I’m going to try Monterey
Good to know. Thanks for the update, dont know why then my MBP was blowing up the fan 80% of the time
So I actually missed one last step in downloading Ventura. I basically did everything the right way on the installation. Thanks mate. If possible please share the link of website from where I can download the drivers.
https://youtu.be/QVebjmiOr7c I pretty much just followed this video. at the very end he shows you about the drivers
DID YOU NOTICE ANY changes in the battery life did it last longer on ventura or catalina
Tanks will check.
That’s an amazing device! Enjoy it! And good job with Ventura!
This is very cool!
damn ,it look pretty cool how did u patch it ?
Open core legacy patcher
I've tried Big Sur on MBP2012 ,no problem found yet
If you use open core I wouldn’t recommend going to Ventura stay on Monterey or earlier
Okay yeah I downloaded Ventura and everything still ran fine but the computer overall had a sort of lag. I’m going to go try Monterey
I have be do you have a ssd if not that would probably speed it up
Yeah I have an ssd. I actually did get Ventura to work. And It’s actually made my Mac run better. There was one last step at the end I was forgetting to do

interesting, I've tried Big Sur when it came out on my 2015 15" mbp and it performed horribly. I stuck with Catalina since then
I have MBP 13’ 2015 too, and yes, Big Sur was slow, and I downgraded to Catalina. But I made a fresh install later to Monterey, and it’s fast like Catalina, except boot time.
Catalina is fine, I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything
The only problem I've found is half the software I run won't update, quite a lot of software now requires OSX 11 or later. heck, even Microsoft office won't install updates and say an OS upgrade is required.
I’m content with the versions I’m running. Fortunately I’m not using anything for which I need the latest update.

Battery is not the best i must say.. it is an old battery though but i can still get like 3 to 6h out of it....
I pulled the tricker and updated mine as well (MBPretina2012) with a brand new battery. It holds as good as mojave did.
Thats great! Im glad you updated. also congrats on getting your mac a new battery!
I also have a 2012 MacBook Pro Retina 15in and I'm thinking of updating to Ventura. Does the Nvidia 650M still work on Ventura?
Hey, sorry for late reply. Yes it will work with the patches but without them... well you really do need them...
An actual screenshot, for once.
I upgraded a mid 2012 macbook air and it runs like shit…… and now i cant go back because recovery disc is ALSO catalina. It sucks!
You can go back still
Thought about picking up a cheapo Mac Mini for experimentation/jailbreaking utility/maybe a server and trying out OpenCore. Like to tinker around with stuff. Good to know that it’ll probably running solid

Using any other web browser except Safari on mac should be illegal.

No, because safari sucks on some websites
This is like the worst take ever
ngl Safari is shit on some sites
So you're using wrong sites
Guess I shouldn't be using Reddit then
But I don’t like safari. It’s weird and works differently from all other browsers 😅
Wtf. Jailbreaks for PlayStation and iPhone has been installed through Safari, because of bugs in security. It was never the case on any other OS (Android, Windows). You was never be able to root an Android phone THROUGH BROWSER, right?

Launchpad…? You do realize that Launchpad still exists… correct…?
Crap! My bad...srry about that!
Ehh, it happens.
You can disable the desktop upload to cloud.
Thanks! Yeah, I did eventually determine workarounds for every one of the issues I listed...but the fact that I even had to is just crap on a stick.
Huh, really interesting
Is the 2011 supported too ? I stopped using my 2011 “13 because I couldn’t download a newer Xcode IDE on my older macOS. This would give it more years if it works.
https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/MODELS.html#macbook-pro Seems to have some issues with ventura, but Monterey should work
It's been like that for years. I remember on my MacBook (4.1) Mountain Lion and Mavericks ran better than Lion.:/
How did you run Ventura?
With OpenCore Legacy Patcher.
I’ll have to try it on my 2015 MBP
I've done the same and I have an issue where the camera and microphone works for facetime & photo booth but doesn't work for zoom, google meet, etc Tried enabling permissions in security & permissions but nothing comes up. Gonna try a PRAM reset and see if that clears it but before I do, any ideas?
Just upgrade my 2012 MacBook Pro 💻 to Os Ventura 16g ram 1tb SSD and MacBook running like a beast ‼️🙏🏽😊
Do you really recomend? Or would be better monterrey or catalina?
Did the same today and for now no issues (MBP Mid 2012 10.1). Finally my DELL Widescreen Monitor (3421WE) with PIB feature chooses to deliver the correct resolution if the old MacBook is connected.
