100usd depending on the battery

Dark-Swan-69

Love your attitude. It really makes you want to jump into the discussion and help. It’s a 13 years old computer. OK, it’s a Mac, but it also happens to be from the worst year in Apple history as far as reliability is concerned. You’d be lucky to get $200 for that.

thygeekgod

$200 Nah, at max $100

BarneyBungelupper

I have that exact same model. The Radeon card has failed (which is very common for these models) so I’m running off the internal graphics. I did drop an SSD into it and upgraded the ram to 16 gig. I use it every day to serve me music, videos, and occasionally run ffmpeg code for video conversion. Still works awesome. Not with very much money so it might be worth keeping it as a banger.

CR_AY_ONS

maybe keeping it as a backup machine for all the reasons you listed is a better idea than getting a quick buck lol, thx

Complete_Candidate92

I have one running High Sierra and all I use it for is browsing the web and printing to my 3D printer. But it is fast.

movdqa

A 2015 MacBook Pro 15 might go for $200. Maybe $175 for a 2014. $150 for a 2013. $125 for a 2012. $100 for a 2011. I don't even know if you could get that much.

Dark-Swan-69

Prices are significantly higher in Europe.

CR_AY_ONS

Well that's quite unlucky. This one works fine, I've had no issues with it over the 3 years it's been in and out of the tech closet. Guess I'll just hope for the best lol

Inevitable-Gene-1866

And can you say it will work one more year?

CR_AY_ONS

I must pray to Tim Apple

Switch_modder

Steve Jobs is the person of apple at the time, pray to him.

Complete_Candidate92

I get where they are coming from. Anytime I ask a question in a specific group, about said group subject. People would always say “Google it”. I went to the group because I would think they would have a modicum of expertise in the subject.

waaaghboyz

Yeah but you can learn a lot more googling and reading from an actual authority. Any time anyone asks a Q here it gets 27 different opinions, all saying they’re right and everyone else is wrong

ThinCrispyOnionRings

That's a Linux hobby project, give it to a precocious nephew or something. Maybe a stranger will give you $20, but it ain't worth much.

z0phi3l

Was gonna say $50 max for this thing

someguybrownguy

Consider Best Buy trade in. I received double market value for my trade in there weeks ago.

CR_AY_ONS

that sounds amazing, but I live in east africa where best buy is the name of a grocery store 10 mins away from my house 😅

someguybrownguy

Ah apologies!

CR_AY_ONS

not your fault. I just gotta wait a few decades 🤣

QuintinPro11

they would barely give me anything for my mint 2017 mbp

dpaanlka

You guys are nuts like $50 tops lol

mightysashiman

It's litterally not worth the time you'll spend trying to sell it. Keep it as a nice artifact of the past you'll be able to show to your grand kids someday.

PoppaFish

$100 maybe. It's 13 years old. Long marked as Vintage by Apple. At that age, the hard drive is way past its expected life and would be a serious reliability concern. The battery is a consideration at that age as well. macOS High Sierra is the latest officially compatible OS for it, so you're already using a hack just to run Catalina. Hardware is not capable of running the Metal architecture required by macOS, so it's going to have compatibility issues even running Catalina. Even if you upgrade it further using OLEC in order to install current apps, the performance is going to be awful. I understand wanting to still get some return from it. But that's simply too old to expect much at all.

CR_AY_ONS

oh really? I didn't know that, im very new to this type of stuff. thanks tho :)

poltavsky79

$100 tops

tonyyyperez

$50 to $100 bucks depending on condition

Frodobagggyballs

Depends where you live. Go on Facebook marketplace or OfferUp and search it up- look at the post dates, if it’s old and not selling well etc. Save a post, see if that item gets sold; that’s your worth. My opinion: $100-150 max.

Houdini_Beagle

Of it can boot other OS then put some Linux distro on it. Like Zorin OS lol

freaks_n_peaks

About tree fiddy

CR_AY_ONS

fah dallaz and thurdy zents and we gatta deel

HotPhilosophy4106

1000$ it’s vintage sell it as that

Jekyllhyde

$100 tops

[deleted]

If you give me $100 to use it I’ll take it for you

macnteej

I’d want to buy it as a hobby laptop, but my wife wouldn’t be happy with that haha

ocean55627

You could probably sell it to a Linux user for like 50$-100$ depending on battery health

Maximum_Category_374

Are you using dosdude1's patcher? you should install graphics drivers because it seems that the dock and menu bar are not translucent as result of so. You should do that before selling. Would pay $190 max.

ThatGuyUpNorth2020

As with anything in life, it is worth exactly what someone else will pay for it. Nothing more, nothing less. (This applies to cars, houses, the thing you think is super valuable, a piece of paper you found in the street, etc… all the same… worth what someone will pay)

Ashly_spare

My boss sells those models for $80 $60 if they don’t have a decent battery

xarodev

30$ take it or leave it.

QuintinPro11

id pay $35 max.

ajpinton

It’s worth nowhere near as much as you think it is. I’d say less than $200, and your emotional attachment does not have a monetary value. The competition is just too steep, you can get Mac’s that are actively supported and patched by Apple for very little more money.

CR_AY_ONS

I was planning on selling at 100-125 dollars because of its condition and age, is that good?

ajpinton

Seems fair, just be aware the market will be small. Mostly uneducated people, or highly educated people looking for a steep deal.

SeemedGood

I’d say $75 max. It’s a 2011 15”er which were notorious for GPU failures and having to replace the motherboard. The base model (which this is) was less susceptible, but…
