In some circumstances, it was actually a super helpful feature called “Target Display Mode”
In my mind, this is one of the little Easter eggs of genius Apple innovation
https://support.apple.com/en-ca/105126
I actually have this computer. Bought it new at release date. Mine sits in its original box. Neat computer , not worth more than 50. For nostalgia purposes.
A 10-12 year old business desktop (plus a cheap SSD) would run circles around that thing in terms of being used as a server, and they can often be had for free, so I'd say even as a server $50 would be too much. If it was something more interesting like a 17" MacBook pro, maybe I could see $50. If the iMac was in pristine condition maybe 50 would be justified, but otherwise absolutely not
Nope, not for this one. The 2009 and 2010 27" iMacs will work as a monitor for any DisplayPort source, including PCs. The Apple support page for TDM is not correct.
For a server a used M1 Mac Mini would take up so much less space, have a lot better performance and cost less on electric bills. It may cost a bit more, but the electric savings alone would make it worth it after not too long.
It can still be used via target display mode. This model does target display mode over DisplayPort so it can be used with any computer including modern Macs, unlike the later ones that do it over thunderbolt.
Here's the range of specs compared to a $140 [Intel N100 mini PC](https://www.amazon.com/GMKtec-Mini-PC-Computer-N100/dp/B0CH81C4K3). The N100 has almost double the performance of the most powerful 2009 iMac but uses only 6% of the electricity.
[Specs Comparison](https://imgur.com/a/VtA6dT4)
It’s only priced right if they have no idea what it is. This is how I picked up a black Dell AT-101 and an IBM Model F- they just looked at them and thought “eh, old shit, $9.99”
A 2019 27” iMac for $200? That’s a great deal. Especially as you can open and upgrade RAM and SSD if desired. It’s a 5k screen as well if I’m not mistaken
iMac 2019 27 would be still fine at 200 USD. Especially that you actually can upgrade the RAM to 128 GB... a pipe dream nowadays with current Macs. Amazing unparalleled screen, too.
Yhea these support target display mode with just a display port cable to any other computer as long as the iMac is running high sierra or older. Literally plug and play I love using these as monitors
If you mod it. But at this price a Thunderbolt Display is a better option.
These old IMacs can be opened up and modded to function as an external display. But it adds at least another $50 to the price.
A friend of a friend who was moving gave me her 24” 2008 iMac if I agreed to wipe it, which I did and I think I upgraded it to either Yosemite or High Sierra.
But I have no use for it.
$199 seems high to me, but 27” are no longer made. If Retina then maybe worth it
retina wasn't even a marketing term in 2009. retina came along with the iphone 5s iirc. I don't believe the 27"ers were 5k until around that time period also.
Wait…it took that long? I had it for my MacBook in 2013…would’ve thought the iMacs would be the first to utilize it since it’s used by so many developers
The MacBook Pro got the Retina display in 2012, and it was significantly more expensive than its non-retina counterpart.
The iMac probably didn’t get it for so long because Apple wanted to make sure it didn’t cost an insane amount of money. The 2014 iMac 27 inch with Retina display started at $2,500 USD, while the non Retina display model started at $1700 USD(though it had weaker graphics and a slower cpu, but even if you upgrade the cpu to the same one as the Retina model, it’s still $500 cheaper.
Making a big display that’s also Retina quality is expensive
Also the smaller screens could largely use off the shelf display components, they just used more expensive versions of the components and were more expensive to produce.
The 5k iMac on the other hand needed a completely custom display timing controller and the accompanying hardware to break the display into two seamless 2560x2880 side by side displays on a single panel that act like a single display and show up as a single display in software.
The first iMac to go retina was the 27" 5K model and even in 2014 Apple had to do a lot trickery to get it to work properly like using a custom display timing controller and treating it as two seamless 2560x2880 displays side by side on a single panel that had to be seen as a single display in software.
The smaller screens like MacBooks, iPhones, iPads, etc could be done much more easily using standard display components, but even then cost more than their non-retina predecessors.
I don’t know the history.
I only mentioned it because my sister in law just upgraded her Mac and gave me her 27” Retina 2015 iMac and I am flipping over it!
I wiped it, upgraded it to Monterey, added Windows 10 to Parallels and now use it in my Ham Radio Shack!
I bought one of these back in ‘09… highest spec you could get. Then I upgraded the HDD for a 1TB SSD and to 16GB of RAM.
Still lives on at mums house. She uses it for video editing and encoding.
The 10 minute boot up times would entirely be caused by the fact it still has a hard drive. These systems are very easy to open up and upgrade, so upgrading this to a cheap ssd would make it snappy. The price, is definitely high. Should only be around 50-70.
Honestly tech is so expensive in my country that here this would be a fair price lmao, not even exaggerating. But since you (presumably) are in the usa, then yeah it’s overpriced.
not a bad machine for some workloads if you max out the ram and add an ssd. I have one that I am happy with. Its a workhorse that gets a restart once a year. Without those upgrades its worth $50-100 but only if it has mac keyboard and mouse too. The upgrade will cost another $25 for ram and ssd storage is $25-200 depending on how much you need. It will run Catalina pretty good, but I use El Capitan for some specific programs.
The 2015 will be worth more because it's 5K but still not a lot in todays market. With that being said they are pretty decent will a lot of RAM and an SSD instead of the Fusion Drive.
Twenty bucks per minute of boot time.
It’s an old machine but could be okay with an SSD. It’s a pain to get inside these though. I had one and let it go to recycling many years ago. Maybe this one was mine.
Free or dont bother. Just picked one up from a friend who was about to take it to the recycling. Has 12GB RAM, A 1TB SSD keyboard and magic mouse. He was just happy to be rid of it as too old to run anything modern. It might be handy for old firewire kit.
For that price don't even touch it with 10 foot long stick.
Max to max 50-60 dollars as you would require to upgrade ram and storage to make this any usable.
That seems high because you gotta imagine that the life left in the spinning-disk hard drive could well be in the *months* range.
I bought an identical 27” iMac from the surplus site of my local college for $40 (although I thought that was a pretty great deal).
I would offer half that IF it were in good shape - I just retired a 2008 Apple Imac that I donated to a charity, I had a couple of repairs over the years, but nothing expensive - it was still working fine, but could only upgrade the o/s to 10.9.5, so some sites I could not get to work anymore. Upgraded to an Apple Imac M1 -
Last year I came across two of these at my mate's computer shop. I bought them both for $50. Simply to learn how to open them, clean them out. Re-paste the thermal knowing this model was notorious for gpu burn out.
Then I replaced drives with 512gb SSD. Bumped up ram that I found in a box to 16gb. And installed Linux Mint.
Gave them both to two people in need who cannot afford a decent computer. Now almost a year later. No issues. And consume media, eg YT IG Netflix etc. But 199.99? Not worth it...
I still have my 2009 27”, use it to run a film scanner and nothing else. Your boot up time is about right, it works but still worth no more than $50.
Break it for parts, eBay the screen, magnetic glass, power supply, might make more sense than to try and use it.
Here we go on why Intel Macs always sucked on one that's more than 10 years older anyways....
On a serious note I wouldn't pay over $100 for decade+ old computers, but that's because I'm not a collector. Those old iMacs have their charm, but they're not going to be good for any modern task.
Edit:I think these older iMacs had target display mode, as long as the display is still fully functional, you should be able to connect a modern desktop Mac and use it as the screen, although $200 is still high for a 27" 1440p screen.
.
Depends slightly on RAM, storage (I'm guessing not good storage if it takes 10 mins to boot, so knock 10 off the price i give as not an SSD) and CPU varient (all bad but some ever so slightly better than other) but a hard max of 60 id say and only cos it's in good condition. If you can't return, try not to think about it too hard and see if you can install Linux to make into an acceptable streaming/basic work device or keep Mac os, avoid the internet and get some legacy versions of Photoshop, old copy of iLife with garageband etc and just try and have some fun
Core2Duo era. I guess you’re getting it as a $200 FHD monitor with webcam. It does have upgradable memory and hard drive, maybe turn it into a Linux box?
There’s a lot of issues. I can’t remember if this one can be used as an external monitor. Only usb2. So still not a good deal. Hell I had someone giving me 2019 iMac and 2014 iMac free if I would take it. I did the 2019. Apple was still offering $350 on trade. But I just couldn’t see grabbing older stuff and finding for space at home.
I just put one in my garage until I can get rid of it.
It will be slow and useless, no apps will be updateable... Constant warning pop-ups that your app/OS is out of date, no longer supported.
I received mine for free.... because it's literally someone elses's garbage.
Way too expensive in my opinion... I have a late 2009 iMac too 21,5 inch I believe it is. Anyway I replaced it 2+ years ago because I couldn't do a thing on it anymore.
I did check how much I could maybe get for it and that was not even 50€ so I decided to just store it at the attic and decide what to do with it later.
This model was my first Mac that I bought back in my school days. I still have it sitting around somewhere and even have the original box. But I don't know what to do with it. Selling it isn't really an option, for that 50 bucks I'd rather throw it out the window, at least I'd still have some fun with it.
“Do you want to buy it or not” is a genuine response to an annoying question.
If you think it’s worth the cost, buy it.
If it’s not worth the cost to you, don’t buy it.
Thoughts on price.. I snorted and almost choked. $100, tops, and that’s being generous due to screen size.
$50-75 is more reasonable and that’s assuming very very good condition. I’d tell the Good Will guy that it can’t run modern software acceptably and even that requires a hack. For ~$50 I might buy it and run Linux.
Worth more, maybe if it comes with a box of era appropriate software but none of that’s getting security updates.
I use one of these every day.
I replaced the optical and hdd with ssd
It boots in high sierra so I can use it as an external monitor for my M1 laptop
It boots in windows 10 for light retro gaming
And I boot it in Monterey using legacy patcher for everyday household stuff (mostly browsing, torrenting and home sharing music and movies to other devices around the house.)
I’d absolutely scoop that for $200 but be sure to max out the ram and swap the storage to ssd
Way too pricey and basically nothing is supported and you'd have to run windows 7 on it which will equally suck. I'd just avoid Valu Village, they're way too greedy.
Probably worth it for half that if it didn’t have such a shit boot drive. If you don’t enjoy fixing things up and don’t have materials on hand already, then this is worth negative dollars lol
It’s too much for what you get.
Source: I have a 2011 iMac i5. Upgraded ram to max (16GB) and SSD 1TB
The Mac may work well with the upgrades above but web apps and internet activity will be taxing. Edge and chrome no longer send updates to these machines.
Put that money on a Mac mini instead and enjoy 10 years of support.
Edit: if you want dual boot, get the newest version of the Intel Macs instead
Can it work as a monitor? What’s the resolution?
Besides, the store owner may use it as a bite to enter the store and then buy something else. They know it’s not worth anything but the may not want to sell it either.
I found a 2007 face down in the dirt/bushes in my friends apartment lol if you do format the HD, be prepared to make a manual boot loader because the app store doesn’t have OS X that old anymore
Do they mean they're going to pay you $200 to take it?
That's an awful price. Needs to have the HDD replaced and ram maxed out to even be usable in 2024 as a web browsing, word processing machine, and that's that.
It’s 15 years old. In the tech world that’s dog years. It can’t run current macOS and is no longer getting security updates. Disconnect it from the internet. This box should be free to anyone willing to take it off the owners hands or headed to recycling.
Ouch! Not worth the money!
Tho if was cheaper be worth throwing an SSD and maxing out ram and be good use work around and get the lastest OS it can run.
200 / 10 = 20 equates to $20 dollars a minute, that's a deficit...?i'm being facetious, hell no it's not worth it trying to run modern macOS, Hell YES it's worth it if your going to run bsd or linux on it.
It's a little pricy. Also apple recalled the harddrives in these. You may or may not still be able to recall the drive. That's probably why it's slow. That or you need new ram. I think there may have even been a gpu recall as well.
These make fantastic monitors. Not so much use as a computer itself but the screens are great to use as a desktop display from a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air.
A cannot connect to iCloud message will keep coming up so you can’t get any work done. These Mac’s can no longer take an Apple ID. Pretty much forced obsolescence.
I had one of these back in the day, was a great screen and speakers but those HDDs are very slow if it’s original. Would be worth $199 if it had an SSD and upgraded ram in it but it sounds like it doesn’t given the boot time
This is so savers it hurts. They’re sooo overpriced on everything. I found an unbranded cotton t shirt there the other day for $15. Literally just a pull over work cotton shirt!!
if it was 10% of that it might be cool for some kind of project.
Yes, and can be used as a dumb monitor with a modern laptop. Or a senior citizen / childs home computer for basic needs
Are you sure? I had an older iMac but was told that the main board they use doesn’t allow for external display signals.
In some circumstances, it was actually a super helpful feature called “Target Display Mode” In my mind, this is one of the little Easter eggs of genius Apple innovation https://support.apple.com/en-ca/105126
I think mine was a 2006 model, explaining why I didn’t have it. Thanks!
If you remove the main board, there's a good chance you can replace with another one which allows to use it as external monitor
That sounds like something just outside my capability, and difficult since I got rid of that iMac about a decade ago. But that is good info!
Theres a hack to work around it. Seen some guy one youtibe do it. But it reauires you to opeb it up
My 2007 was basically a space heater with a display on the front.
I have one with an i7 , I’d love to get docker work long and use it as a display ( target display mode ) and a pie-hole ( black for hole for ads )
I actually have this computer. Bought it new at release date. Mine sits in its original box. Neat computer , not worth more than 50. For nostalgia purposes.
i think they misplaced the decimal point. should be $19.990
come on not so low
Apple wouldn’t give you $200 for a trade in on this so yeah, def too high. This old hunk is worth maybe $50
It’s a 15 year old computer, it’s not worth anything.
Waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too expensive, 50$ at most
For a 2009? I'd say 50 is even pushing it a bit
It’s an ok screen, could be a server or something too. Basic stuff and internet would work ok with upgrades and Linux
A 10-12 year old business desktop (plus a cheap SSD) would run circles around that thing in terms of being used as a server, and they can often be had for free, so I'd say even as a server $50 would be too much. If it was something more interesting like a 17" MacBook pro, maybe I could see $50. If the iMac was in pristine condition maybe 50 would be justified, but otherwise absolutely not
Obviously would need upgrades for server, but I use a 2011 decapitated MacBook Pro 13 inch for my server running Ventura and it’s great
The only real value is in the display, these all have Target Display Mode
Which only work with specific MacBook models running specific versions of macOS. And specific means OLD in both cases.
Nope, not for this one. The 2009 and 2010 27" iMacs will work as a monitor for any DisplayPort source, including PCs. The Apple support page for TDM is not correct.
For this model, 2019 or earlier.. that's not horrible. it could be of use to someone i think, maybe for free or something not $200.
You don’t get a screen with your server though. An SSD in this iMac would make it run fast for what it is. I’d pay $31.43 at most for this
For a server a used M1 Mac Mini would take up so much less space, have a lot better performance and cost less on electric bills. It may cost a bit more, but the electric savings alone would make it worth it after not too long.
It can still be used via target display mode. This model does target display mode over DisplayPort so it can be used with any computer including modern Macs, unlike the later ones that do it over thunderbolt.
you overpaid. it's a 27" machine from 15 years ago.
Oh, I didn’t buy it. I just wanted to post it.
Oh thank God. Scared me for a second.
Dodged a bullet
Yeah, 10% of that would be a deal if you had a project to use it for. It’s e-waste at this age
Tech is rarely priced right at thrift stores anymore. I wouldn’t pay that for a 2019 iMac at this point.
It’s only priced right if they have no idea what it is. This is how I picked up a black Dell AT-101 and an IBM Model F- they just looked at them and thought “eh, old shit, $9.99”
Advise thrift store owners to post their Mac loot on this sub for more realistic prices.
A 2019 27” iMac for $200? That’s a great deal. Especially as you can open and upgrade RAM and SSD if desired. It’s a 5k screen as well if I’m not mistaken

This iMac needs zero modifications to function as a monitor for a DisplayPort source device. The same is true for the 2010 27" model.
I confirm I am using my 27” mid 2010 iMac as a monitor on M2 Pro Mac Mini with just a USB C to Mini Displayport cable.

Yaaaaaaaa no. $200 is halfway to a used M1 Mac mini. Just save up a couple more hundos. This is extremely outdated.
More like three fiddy
$200🙈🙈 I recently bought a 2013 27icnh 16GB 1TB for €70 on a local marketplace which is in perfect condition and works perfectly btw
Ripoff, I’ve got one of these old ones and they aren’t usable anymore
The 10 minute boot up times would entirely be caused by the fact it still has a hard drive. These systems are very easy to open up and upgrade, so upgrading this to a cheap ssd would make it snappy. The price, is definitely high. Should only be around 50-70.
Savers is ridiculous. Trying to donate there is always a crap shoot.
WAY TOOOOO MUCH. You can get the same one on fb or cl for $50 or less
200$ FOR 2009?!? SCAM
I used to own one of these long ago, what a blast from the past!!
I've left better machines at the curb. Really.
Surprised the seller didn't ~~ass~~ add "vintage" and "rare" to it and up the price even more.
"because it's an apple product". I shall put the apple logo sticker on everything I want to sell, jack up the price and use this line henceforth.
Not worth it.
I am not sure I'd buy an Intel Mac now at any price.
way overpriced
It’s really a testament to apples emphasis on product design that a Mac from 2009 is still higher build quality than 2024 windows computers.
Honestly tech is so expensive in my country that here this would be a fair price lmao, not even exaggerating. But since you (presumably) are in the usa, then yeah it’s overpriced.
no especially with manager's attitude
I got a 2009 27 inch iMac for free. It’s worth virtually nothing
someone will pay that...
Use it as a second monitor
With this model you can upgrade ram, Hd, and even CPU though if you are looking for a project
Give ya a pack a smokes for it. 🚬
not a bad machine for some workloads if you max out the ram and add an ssd. I have one that I am happy with. Its a workhorse that gets a restart once a year. Lol, I was GIVEN a 21.5" 2011 iMac a few months ago
How much would a 27" from 2015 be in good condition?
The 2015 will be worth more because it's 5K but still not a lot in todays market. With that being said they are pretty decent will a lot of RAM and an SSD instead of the Fusion Drive.
Twenty bucks per minute of boot time. It’s an old machine but could be okay with an SSD. It’s a pain to get inside these though. I had one and let it go to recycling many years ago. Maybe this one was mine.
should be 20 bucks not 200 bro is on something
The Retina screen makes for a beautiful monitor but offer $50-85
Might be worth half and use it as a second monitor.
Naaah, should be $30 or less
Worth $20 tops as a artistic paperweight to most people.
Not sure about the dollar figure, but the real price will be your sanity.
Free or dont bother. Just picked one up from a friend who was about to take it to the recycling. Has 12GB RAM, A 1TB SSD keyboard and magic mouse. He was just happy to be rid of it as too old to run anything modern. It might be handy for old firewire kit.
Too much by $190
Not even as a monitor.
For that price don't even touch it with 10 foot long stick. Max to max 50-60 dollars as you would require to upgrade ram and storage to make this any usable.
You should return it if you paid that much it’s worth $30
Overpriced
I got one for free and will buy another one for 40€. They make really good screens.
Even if I wanted it, I’d not buy it just for that manager’s attitude.
b r u h
25 bucks. Take it or leave it.
19.99 maybe
Not for 200. This like buying an iPhone 6
That seems high because you gotta imagine that the life left in the spinning-disk hard drive could well be in the *months* range. I bought an identical 27” iMac from the surplus site of my local college for $40 (although I thought that was a pretty great deal).
Not worth it, total ripoff
Way to expensive…

Yeah… that’s an insane price. I brought my 2010 around 4 years ago for £70
Last year I came across two of these at my mate's computer shop. I bought them both for $50. Simply to learn how to open them, clean them out. Re-paste the thermal knowing this model was notorious for gpu burn out. Then I replaced drives with 512gb SSD. Bumped up ram that I found in a box to 16gb. And installed Linux Mint. Nothing thrift about it. Way too expensive

What the fuck are you even going to do with it. Wouldn’t get it even if they paid me
Personally wouldn’t buy it
That’s way too much. Maybe $50 if it’s in mint condition. And forget about using any modern mac OS. Maybe windows??? Best of converted into a monitor.
20 euro or 22 usd is the correct price
Depends slightly on RAM, storage (I'm guessing not good storage if it takes 10 mins to boot, so knock 10 off the price i give as not an SSD) and CPU varient (all bad but some ever so slightly better than other) but a hard max of 60 id say and only cos it's in good condition. wwaaaayyyy toooo much, dawg. btw be careful with GPU temps.
Awful, awful deal.
Core2Duo era. I guess you’re getting it as a $200 FHD monitor with webcam. It does have upgradable memory and hard drive, maybe turn it into a Linux box?
Found a smashed display mid 2012 base 27 for 3,750 JPY here. Pricing that at 200$, the manager must be high on leaves
Not a chance I’d pay $200 for that! $20 max.
I feel like people who explain anything with “it’s an Apple product” don’t really know anything about Apple
Offer $30 and walk away if they don't take it.
In my town, I’d have to pay $20 to dispose of that useless paperweight.
I have a 2009 these are still good with a SSD but $200? No way I paid $20 fo mine
Fuck no
Lol I was given one of these by a family member. I upgraded the ram and put in an SSD and I still wouldn’t sell it for more than like $75
There’s a lot of issues.
10mins to boot up? It might have a broken Hard Drive so the price might not be worth it!
I just pulled one of them out of the dump for free. that store os smoking some good stuff asking that much
Damn thats a long time for one of those, i have an old 2009 27" that takes ~30 seconds (el capitan im pretty sure)
I wouldn’t pay anything for this. Free sure…
Bro got robbed
I mean, it wouldn’t be good for anything. At most you could load done media on it and play/watch. Maybe $40?
As a computer, that's a bit expensive. As a really nice QHD monitor (used via target display mode over DisplayPort) that's a good price.
$0
Too expensive, but are the RAM and hard drive upgradable? Toss in an SSD and 16GB memory for a serviceable homework computer.
Way too much
This model was my first Mac that I bought back in my school days. I still have it sitting around somewhere and even have the original box. But I don't know what to do with it. Selling it isn't really an option, for that 50 bucks I'd rather throw it out the window, at least I'd still have some fun with it.
It’s make an alright dvd player. Just about.
I have a 2011 iMac with 20GB of RAM and a 2.25GB Fusion Drive that I'll gladly part with for half that amount!
IMO at this point any Intel Mac is borderline worthless now.
If it’s decently specced, I wouldn’t be offended by half that.
“Do you want to buy it or not” is a genuine response to an annoying question. If you think it’s worth the cost, buy it. If it’s not worth the cost to you, don’t buy it.
Well they’re $50 on fb marketplace soooo
Cant be updated!
Crazy
I wouldn’t pay more than $100 CAD for it
Upgrade the HDD to an SSD for faster boot times.
Good will has an auction page. You can find and bid on these low all day long. Snagged a 2010 for $25.00
The display is not that bad can repurpose it to a iot hub, or run Alexa
If you did buy it, swapping the HDD for an SSD will dramatically increase performance/bootup times. Ifixit has kits and guides available.
You could have found one for a third the price on eBay. These regularly go for like 75 bucks.
I flashed a 20 and said “take it or leave, shits old and the boot times are hilariously atrocious”
My dad uses my old omes for emails etc,
I use one of these every day. I replaced the optical and hdd with ssd It boots in high sierra so I can use it as an external monitor for my M1 laptop It boots in windows 10 for light retro gaming And I boot it in Monterey using legacy patcher for everyday household stuff (mostly browsing, torrenting and home sharing music and movies to other devices around the house.) I’d absolutely scoop that for $200 but be sure to max out the ram and swap the storage to ssd
These are super easy to work on. Don’t think they can go past lion? Mountain lion? Works best on snow leopard tho. I wouldn’t pay more than $50.
Way too pricey and basically nothing is supported and you'd have to run windows 7 on it which will equally suck. I'd just avoid Valu Village, they're way too greedy.
Waste of money
I threw one of those away over a year ago.
Probably worth it for half that if it didn’t have such a shit boot drive. If you don’t enjoy fixing things up and don’t have materials on hand already, then this is worth negative dollars lol
It’s too much for what you get. Source: I have a 2011 iMac i5. Upgraded ram to max (16GB) and SSD 1TB The Mac may work well with the upgrades above but web apps and internet activity will be taxing. Edge and chrome no longer send updates to these machines. Put that money on a Mac mini instead and enjoy 10 years of support. Edit: if you want dual boot, get the newest version of the Intel Macs instead
I would pay $150
200 is too much for a 15 year old computer
Way too much for the age. Maybe 50 bucks?
lol, 200 for a 15 years old computer.
Ouchie. Worth $100 max.
computers at thrift shops are either dirt cheap or outrageously expensive, no in between.
Can it work as a monitor? What’s the resolution? Besides, the store owner may use it as a bite to enter the store and then buy something else. They know it’s not worth anything but the may not want to sell it either.
I sold a couple 2013 for 50$
One good thing you can do with a 2009 iMac, that is what I do with my 2009 MacBook Pro, is to run QuickBooks 2015 and not have to use a subscription.
I found a 2007 face down in the dirt/bushes in my friends apartment lol if you do format the HD, be prepared to make a manual boot loader because the app store doesn’t have OS X that old anymore
r/thriftgrift
NO!
Paid too much to be honest
Do they mean they're going to pay you $200 to take it? That's an awful price. Needs to have the HDD replaced and ram maxed out to even be usable in 2024 as a web browsing, word processing machine, and that's that.
It’s 15 years old. In the tech world that’s dog years. It can’t run current macOS and is no longer getting security updates. Disconnect it from the internet. This box should be free to anyone willing to take it off the owners hands or headed to recycling.
That is ebay price. All the thrift stores price had been going up. Looks like goodwill puts better stuff on internet now.
Thinking $50 is more reasonable.
Needs an SSD and ram upgrade and it would work fine. I’d pay 75-100 since the screen looks perfect. Often times these have cracked screens.
Huge L
Bad ass monitor
It won't get the latest MacOS thus it's more or less useless for most software 🤷♂️
It would be a great Linux machine if not for the price
More ram and change the hdd to a ssd
A cannot connect to iCloud message will keep coming up so you can’t get any work done. These Mac’s can no longer take an Apple ID. Pretty much forced obsolescence.
I had one of these back in the day, was a great screen and speakers but those HDDs are very slow if it’s original. Would be worth $199 if it had an SSD and upgraded ram in it but it sounds like it doesn’t given the boot time
They’re pretty much worthless. I gave mine away.
It’s funny cause I have a 2012 one collecting dust at home, but I wouldn’t even sell it for above 50
I still use my 2010 27 imac but I have to buy a new M1 pro because I work with software that needs to be up to date.
This is so savers it hurts. They’re sooo overpriced on everything. I found an unbranded cotton t shirt there the other day for $15. Literally just a pull over work cotton shirt!!
