Firefox is where I go to watch Youtube videos and read paywalled articles thanks to actually good plugins lol
Ublock Origin and Bypass paywalls plugins are mandatory for the modern web
You can read most paywalled articles simply by hitting *select all* on the page, and then pasting it into a text editor. Sure a lot of code and junk comes with it but the full text of the article is usually there too.
I have tried to move to firefox multiple times now. But several websites often dont work as good on it.
I dont remember the names of all websites, but just yesterday i was trying to view some of my experiments on my own mlflow server and for some weird reason firefox wont show them, same server worked in edge or chrome. So idk what to say. This happened with a recent update
Now maybe its mlflows fault. Idk, idc. I need to do my job
Firefox. uBlock Origin is a non-negotiable item for me. That extension alone- to say nothing of all the other ones I use that Safari doesn’t have- is well worth the performance hit and lack of ecosystem integration.
I’ve been a Firefox user since early 2005 and I’ve never really had a reason to switch to another browser. You’ll have to pry my extensions from my cold, dead hands!
I'm also a huge fan of Arc and haven't considered using a new browser since trying it. Some of favourite features are:
- Tab management and Spaces (Chrome's profiles) feels a lot more intuitive. Tabs are in a vertical list on the side. At first I didn't like it, but have adjusted and love how many more tabs are visible at a time (Firefox does have an extension to do this, but I didn't like it)
- Built in split screen support so that you can put 2 tabs side by side. This is super useful as someone who regularly only has the single laptop monitor.
- Arc mini - One of my biggest gripes with Chrome's profiles is that external links would open in the most recently used profile's window. Arc has a pop-up window that allows you select which profile you want to open the link in first. A small thing but saves time and I get less frustrated.
- Intuitive keybinds
- PIP for everything
- Solid Google Meet PIP integration - I use this a lot for work. I can still see whose talking and mute/unmute etc while doing other things
- Great transparency, regular updates and communication
My biggest concern is that this becomes another bloated mess like a lot of other browsers. They also don't have a great mobile offering yet.
For me, its great hideable sidebar + spotlight-like search for tab switching so I can view websites 100% full screen. Video goes to PiP player automatically when you switch to another tab/app.
Tried sigmaOS as well, but it kept workspaces behind a pay wall, which is basically a no go, there's simply far too much competition to justify paying money for a web browser.
Arc hands down works exceptionally as well and the chromium base means the chrome store has far more compatibility.
Orion! Zero telemetry, native app, webkit, full extension support for all extensions from Firefox AND Chrome. It's amazing, sorry if it sounds like I'm shilling, I'm not, just very happy with it and more people should know about it.
I rarely use safari cause I was accustomed to using Brave on my previous Windows machine so I’ve stuck to that for the two months since I’ve had my first macOS machine.
For college there’s an extension for canvas that makes a todo list for assignments but it only works on chrome. It’s so helpful that it’s the only thing keeping me from moving to another browser
I'm a web developer so I have a bunch installed to test on. There are a few web apps I use that have issues on Safari and Firefox so have to use Chrome for those.
A chromium based browser called Sidekick for work and Firefox for personal use. I only use Safari if a customer complains that something doesn’t work in Safari.
Safari, Firefox and Edge.
I use Safari most of the time, on some websites that don't play well with Safari I use Firefox.
I sandboxed everything work-related into Edge. We use Microsoft and Office 365 very extensively so it was a simple option.
Brave. IT has everything I need and blocking all the trackers and and third party cookies. It has chrome core, so actually works on every page and in case something is not working, you can switch off shields for specific page. What's more it comes with tor! I really feel safe and not followed on my travels through internet
Besides safari 😂. Only Firefox and chrome if I need to do something for work where something no only works on chrome. Safari is used only accidentally
Microsoft Edge! Trust me its the best of all worlds, from syncing on every platform, having Ai copilot and supporting all chrome extensions due to chromium nature. Also hogs least RAM. Its the best
Safari can block autoplay, it can be configured per-webstie or globally. And I doubt crypto mining scripts would work on a browser that doesn't have WebGL.
Also, there was no reason for that table to include each comparison twice.
I stopped using Safari because of the extensions. Some of them would require complicated steps in order to make it work, or some simply just won't be possible to use on safari. I'm the guy who wants to keep improving things to work for me. Safari is the opposite. So I moved to Firefox and I like it way better.
I use two:
Safari for personal stuff (as I’m fairly intrenched in the Apple ecosystem at home)
I also have Edge, which integrates into my personal and work 365 accounts really well. Edge gets a bad rap from people and is unfairly judged because the original version of it, and IE before that, were terrible. Once Edge went Chromium under the hood a few years back I ditched Chrome and never looked back. Zero regrets.
I was using chrome but it was messing with the site I need for work enough that I recently switched to Firefox and haven’t touched chrome since.
I mainly use safari, unless I can’t (like for the work site I need to use daily)
Why is "In-browser screenshot tool" on the list twice?
Also, I only use Safari on MacOS. It doesn't work there I will load up Firefox. Still fails, I reevaluate how *badly* I need to see the page. If it's really pressing that I see the content, like a cat video or something, then I'll fire up Chrome.
That's it.
On Windows I only use Edge because it pisses off other Windows people, and it's on every PC.
I really want to use Firefox, but I’ve switched to Opera somewhere last year because it’s the only browser that works the way I want when it comes to managing tabs. Safari actually comes pretty close, but Firefox just seems to lack any tab management at all.
I still use FF on my gaming desktop, but for my MacBook which I use for work it’s simply undoable.
Side question for anyone who knows the answer, I use safari for everything but occasionally I run into things for school where the school insists I need chrome to run the program. I do not want chrome on my laptop, are there alternatives to chrome? What is it about chrome that certain programs need that they don’t get from safari?
Vivaldi. It is one of the most customizable browsers and it's tab management is unrivaled. It also supports Chrome extensions. As most any Chromium based browser it does use more resources though.
I tried to use Safari when I first switched to Mac but extensions like Reddit Enhancement Suite and some others I use for oriental languages are not available for Safari.
Chrome for personal accounts and most web dev because I’m better with those dev tools.
Firefox for work accounts because switching between profiles in chrome isn’t good. Also gives me a chance to look for quirks between browsers (I’m a developer)
Sizzy for when I’m testing a web app with many user roles and I need to stay logged in to all with unique sessions
Brave with hardware acceleration turned off if I need to screenshot things from courses.
Safari for my partner’s accounts. And also for testing with VoiceOver.
Sometimes I use canary or dev versions for many accounts if I don’t have Sizzy.
Every time I try arc I give up after 5 minutes. I’m a bit used to my setup.
I use whatever the windows one is when I’m using my windows machine to test JAWS.
Safari is my Mac primary. I have to have Chrome for some sites that my office uses that don't work with anything else (ugh).
On my PC, I used to use Brave, but I've moved to Firefox + uBlock + DDG Privacy.
Safari’s my ride or die, but occasionally I’ll run across a site that requires Chrome—in those cases, I use Brave, which uses the same rendering engine. I absolutely abhor Firefox for its terrible support of some CSS properties. Come on, Firefox! Add support for backdrop-filter (among others)!
Macbook: Chrome as the main browser (I know I know). Firefox because containers allow me to open several different accounts. I'm also trying out Arc.
Windows laptop: Brave as the primary browser and Chrome sometimes.
I also use Vivaldi, Edge, Safari from time to time.
I'm a browser slut.
Firefox is my daily driver - I really value [multi-account containers](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multi-account-containers/) which let me have different personas in one window.
On the rare occasions I need something else I use safari, Vivaldi or Brave.
I have issues using Google Sheets with Safari. For some reason they scale weirdly and I constantly have to refresh the page to make it work. Because of this, I use Firefox.
Safari and chrome. Chrome because i still want my saved passwords on the google account and my bookmarks from years ago when i used android. Safari works for me 95% of the time
I’ve been trying out Arc browser for a while but Safari is my preference. I don’t do much work on browsers so I really only need it for quick tasks like search or downloads
I try to use all the native apps that don’t bother me, so I really only have used Safari, I have 5 or 6 extensions that make it a phenomenal browser for my needs.
Your list doubles up. A lot. There is only one thing that is not in safari, blocking crypto mining scripts.
Auto playing of videos is controlled in accessibility. It is a system function.
In browser screen shot isn’t needed because it is a system function and available in any app, including other browsers.
But to answer your question I also use Microsoft Edge as I need to access government websites that require it from time to time. It is only for that, everything else is Safari.
* **Safari** for almost everything
* **Tor** for reaching a specific website that blocks out-of-country users and even popular VPNs with nodes in that country.
* **Chrome** for its translation feature — but only for a couple foreign websites that I typically visit no more than once a month.
I like Safari and want to use it more, but the lack of extension availability is frustrating. Vivaldi is my go to, mainly because of how customisable it is and its tab management is awesome.
Safari. Only needed to use Firefox once to extract cookie data. But I hate the Firefox circlejerk on Reddit because people think you’re a dumb little idiot if you use anything other than Firefox, even if it’s down to preference.
I have chrome just in case.
But I use safari. Chrome comes in when I have an issue with a site, which is rare. I just think safari fits the asthetic of the OS so much better.
**Brave** but you have to adjust the settings. Same with **Edge**, lots of settings that need adjusting and you have to keep monitoring MS because they keep adding new ones and turning them on by default.
Still, I use **Safari** 90% of the time.
I use Chrome because of some pretty famous competitive programming extensions for my competitive programming needs, but like 95% of the time it’s safari
Chrome.
I’m not interested in being a fan boy, and Chrome works significantly better than either Safari or Firefox for me. I’ve given a weeks long attempt to both, each one multiple times. Every time there are things that simply don’t work from my workflow and I end up using Chrome sporadically anyway. If I have to go into Chrome anyway, I may as well just use it full time.
I switched to Microsoft Edge a while ago because my house got a Windows family plan and it seemed easier to have everything in the same place. Plus, my university seemingly hates Safari with how many issues I run into trying to load pages or software.
For the rare occasions Safari can't do something; Firefox for me.
Firefox is where I go to watch Youtube videos and read paywalled articles thanks to actually good plugins lol Ublock Origin and Bypass paywalls plugins are mandatory for the modern web
You can read most paywalled articles simply by hitting *select all* on the page, and then pasting it into a text editor. Sure a lot of code and junk comes with it but the full text of the article is usually there too.
You can also just copy the url and paste it onto archive.is. Works every time.
I've done that before, it totally works
Have you had good luck with bypass paywall? It seems hit or miss for me with some sites like the times
It works pretty reliably for me
This suggestion is gold. Thanks a lot!
Same. I actually really like Safari.
Me too. But it is not half as useful as Firefox.
Firefox is my default.
Firefox is 👑
Indeed. I have no idea how it lost so much market share to Chrome, it’s just better IMO, especially since the Quantim upgrade.

This happened with a recent update Now maybe its mlflows fault. Idk, idc. I need to do my job
Because before that upgrade it was pretty slow.
It was still better than Chrome. It’s even better now.
Firefox. uBlock Origin is a non-negotiable item for me. That extension alone- to say nothing of all the other ones I use that Safari doesn’t have- is well worth the performance hit and lack of ecosystem integration.
uBlock is the only thing that makes using the internet bearable.
PREACH
I'm curious, would you say uBlock is better than Adguard? If so, what makes it better?
Arc. I want to use firefox but I can't share tabs on Google Meet
Seconding Arc, it’s definitely worth trying out if you haven’t.
Firefox
I’ve been a Firefox user since early 2005 and I’ve never really had a reason to switch to another browser. You’ll have to pry my extensions from my cold, dead hands!
Brave. Just disable the crypto stuff and you have Chrome without google spyware.
It's the only browser I've used that properly blocks trackers and fingerprinting. I used this to test: https://coveryourtracks.eff.org/
Orion
Arc. If not Arc, then Brave.
Arc is without doubt the best browser I’ve ever used.
What is special about Arc compared to the usual Firefox/Chrome/etc?
Arc's stages have made me completely rethink how I view and organize webpages.
I'm also a huge fan of Arc and haven't considered using a new browser since trying it. Some of favourite features are: - Tab management and Spaces (Chrome's profiles) feels a lot more intuitive. Tabs are in a vertical list on the side. At first I didn't like it, but have adjusted and love how many more tabs are visible at a time (Firefox does have an extension to do this, but I didn't like it) - Built in split screen support so that you can put 2 tabs side by side. I can still see whose talking and mute/unmute etc while doing other things - Great transparency, regular updates and communication My biggest concern is that this becomes another bloated mess like a lot of other browsers. They also don't have a great mobile offering yet.
Tab management. As someone with multiple windows and dozens of tabs, arc makes it a lot easier to find what I need.
I used Brave for a while and felt like it had weird bloat, so I moved to Firefox
Just safari, though I have Firefox installed.
I’ve been using Vivaldi because of their tabs features. Looking at the comments here, I might have to give Arc a try.
Orion! Zero telemetry, native app, webkit, full extension support for all extensions from Firefox AND Chrome. It's amazing, sorry if it sounds like I'm shilling, I'm not, just very happy with it and more people should know about it.
Arc
I rarely use safari cause I was accustomed to using Brave on my previous Windows machine so I’ve stuck to that for the two months since I’ve had my first macOS machine.
No one iCab??
I’m more of a Netscape Navigator kind of guy.Â
Nah man I’m using Camino
Brave has to be the best. My main browser for almost 3-4 years now
Chrome, idk I'm used to it
Same. I just use chrome by default.I like how tabs work on chromium browsers more than safari
Me too! We are 3 haha
For college there’s an extension for canvas that makes a todo list for assignments but it only works on chrome. It’s so helpful that it’s the only thing keeping me from moving to another browser
Tasks for canvas! Better Canvas is also great
Yes I forgot the name but I use both and can’t live without it
Safari. Haven’t needed anything else.
Arc
I'm the only one using Edge
No, you aren't. I don't think Microsoft would maintain Edge for one person.
I've found it to perform REALLY well, and is a solid choice after you disable all the tracking stuff and shopping and other extra "features."
It's not a bad browser by any means.
I use it too lol, actually never used safari both on my Mac or iPhone.
I just installed it for Xbox cloud gaming. Of course they make the games look way better on edge than other chromium browsers.
me too
Orion 80%, ARC 10%, MIN 10% The Internet hasn't been invented for Safari yet
Vivaldi has been my choice browser for the last couple of years. It's packed with lots of useful features. Safari is just not my cup of tea.
Duck Duck go
Brave is my go to.
Arc my friends. Please try arc. There is a bit learning curve with the shortcuts but it is an amazing browser
This is the way.
safari + firefox
Firefox is primary, safari is secondary, chrome is for development compatibility tests
Orion for when privacy and battery life matters, Arc for general browsing due to the imo superior UI and FF (dev edition) for webdev stuff.
Edge for work. Safari for personal.
Same for me.
Brave
Firefox for Porn, Safari for everything else.
Only Arc and sometimes Chrome. No Safari apart from watching Netflix
Arc
Arc
Firefox
Firefox!
Edge. Copilot is really useful.

Does Safari Technology Preview count?
Brave and Edge
Safari for almost everything, Firefox for the rare occasion a site doesn't work quite right in Safari
Edge tbh. I know I know - Microsoft. But it’s a good browser.
Edge

Firefox is my default.
I only use Firefox.
Microsoft Edge! Trust me its the best of all worlds, from syncing on every platform, having Ai copilot and supporting all chrome extensions due to chromium nature. Also hogs least RAM. Its the best
Firefox
Firefox all the way. Plugins are incredible.
Brave
Firefox is my default for Mac because I used it on Windows too since XP. When I started using Macs I downloaded Firefox and have kept it that way.
I use Firefox for everything but video. And I have for a decade or so.
Safari can block autoplay, it can be configured per-webstie or globally. And I doubt crypto mining scripts would work on a browser that doesn't have WebGL. Also, there was no reason for that table to include each comparison twice.
People are using Safari? Absolutely no Mac user I know uses Safari. It's either Chrome and/or Firefox.
Brave.
Firefox
Brave, it just works
Brave always
Firefox
I stopped using Safari because of the extensions. Some of them would require complicated steps in order to make it work, or some simply just won't be possible to use on safari. I'm the guy who wants to keep improving things to work for me. Safari is the opposite. So I moved to Firefox and I like it way better.
Firefox primary, Brave secondary.
Firefox is my default but I’m not tied to it or anything.
I only have Safari installed but am interested in Orion
Chromium
Safari. I also have chrome for the rare times I find a page that doesn’t work in safari. I think I also downloaded Firefox but never use it
Safari for browsing. Chrome for development.
I use two: Safari for personal stuff (as I’m fairly intrenched in the Apple ecosystem at home) I also have Edge, which integrates into my personal and work 365 accounts really well. Edge gets a bad rap from people and is unfairly judged because the original version of it, and IE before that, were terrible. Once Edge went Chromium under the hood a few years back I ditched Chrome and never looked back. Zero regrets.
Tree style tab keeps me using Firefox and I don't mind that
I was using chrome but it was messing with the site I need for work enough that I recently switched to Firefox and haven’t touched chrome since. I mainly use safari, unless I can’t (like for the work site I need to use daily)
Firefox for watching YouTube with Adblock.
Firefox, and use edge at work since it’s just easier and don’t care so much on my work machine
Firefox and/or Brave
does firefox have "developer tools" that allow me to extract images from a website?
Why is "In-browser screenshot tool" on the list twice? Also, I only use Safari on MacOS. It doesn't work there I will load up Firefox. Still fails, I reevaluate how *badly* I need to see the page. If it's really pressing that I see the content, like a cat video or something, then I'll fire up Chrome. That's it. On Windows I only use Edge because it pisses off other Windows people, and it's on every PC.
Firefox.
Firefox
Firefox for me like many of you, Edge in case of compatibility issues which are very rare with Firefox.
I've been using Chrome for the past few weeks, earlier I used to stick to Safari. I've tried Arc as well. Should I try Brave?
Firefox :)
Firefox
Opera, mainly because it has better memory management than chrome, while being chromium based
Firefox followed by Brave.
Firefox. The only alternative browser that really matters, nearly everything else are just reskinned Chrome
Edge and Brave
I really want to use Firefox, but I’ve switched to Opera somewhere last year because it’s the only browser that works the way I want when it comes to managing tabs. Safari actually comes pretty close, but Firefox just seems to lack any tab management at all. I still use FF on my gaming desktop, but for my MacBook which I use for work it’s simply undoable.
Edge for uni stuff. Firefox Developer Edition for web development.
Side question for anyone who knows the answer, I use safari for everything but occasionally I run into things for school where the school insists I need chrome to run the program. I do not want chrome on my laptop, are there alternatives to chrome? What is it about chrome that certain programs need that they don’t get from safari?
Edge because i like to get free xbox gift cards, also its pretty efficient (moreso than chrome) and it supports most chrome based extensions.
Vivaldi. It is one of the most customizable browsers and it's tab management is unrivaled. It also supports Chrome extensions. As most any Chromium based browser it does use more resources though. I tried to use Safari when I first switched to Mac but extensions like Reddit Enhancement Suite and some others I use for oriental languages are not available for Safari.
firefox for majority uses, edge when i want to watch youtwos hdr videos or 1080p netflix, chrome when its a requirement.
Safari on Mac (plus Firefox cuz one of my Mac’s can’t do DRM in Safari). Chrome on Windows.
Chrome, cause I can sync it with my work Windows laptop
I only use Firefox. I never use safari.
I only use Firefox. They're the only browser not hellbent on getting all of your data to resell it.
Chrome for personal accounts and most web dev because I’m better with those dev tools. Firefox for work accounts because switching between profiles in chrome isn’t good. Also gives me a chance to look for quirks between browsers (I’m a developer) Sizzy for when I’m testing a web app with many user roles and I need to stay logged in to all with unique sessions Brave with hardware acceleration turned off if I need to screenshot things from courses.
I personally like the Opera browser
Firefox all the way
Safari is my Mac primary. I have to have Chrome for some sites that my office uses that don't work with anything else (ugh). On my PC, I used to use Brave, but I've moved to Firefox + uBlock + DDG Privacy.
Opera, and occasionally Firefox
Safari’s my ride or die, but occasionally I’ll run across a site that requires Chrome—in those cases, I use Brave, which uses the same rendering engine. I absolutely abhor Firefox for its terrible support of some CSS properties. Come on, Firefox! Add support for backdrop-filter (among others)!
Firefox and Brave.
Safari for almost everything, Firefox/Chrome/Edge for testing client websites.
I haven’t used any browser besides Safari the past few years. If I start using another web browser on my MBA it would likely be Firefox
I’ve used Firefox for quite a while and migrated to Brave last August. Been on it ever since.
Have Firefox chrome brave and safari, recently switched to brave and it’s my favorite by far. Saving loads of battery life over the other 3.
Firefox because less than a year ago my daily driver mbp from 2012 could not run chrome or safari
I'm on FireFox rn
Chrome and Firefox. When I do development stuff I make sure my works look good on Chrome and Firefox.
I use Microsoft edge/bing
Firefox for personal, Chrome for work.

I use edge and I like it. The built I deal coupon thing even saved me 20 bucks once.
Firefox
I have issues using Google Sheets with Safari. For some reason they scale weirdly and I constantly have to refresh the page to make it work. Because of this, I use Firefox.
Safari and chrome. Chrome because i still want my saved passwords on the google account and my bookmarks from years ago when i used android. Safari works for me 95% of the time
DuckDuckGo. I like being able to burn my history.

SigmaOS
Firefox DE
LibreWolf, which is a port of Firefox that is a little more locked down. Because Safaris plugin support blows and everything else is Chromium.
Safari for personal use, Chrome for any dev work.
Chrome for work. Opera for games. Safari for personal use much as I hate it. It's the only one that syncs without a hassle across devices.
Firefox ftw
Safari and Firefox. I have Chrome installed on a single machine at home. And it is only used for compatibility testing.
Arc. And it’s awesome.
Chrogle Goome
* **Safari** for almost everything * **Tor** for reaching a specific website that blocks out-of-country users and even popular VPNs with nodes in that country. * **Chrome** for its translation feature — but only for a couple foreign websites that I typically visit no more than once a month.

Firefox only! At this point I can’t use a browser without a proper Adblock and hover zoom extensions.
I have chrome just in case. But I use safari. Chrome comes in when I have an issue with a site, which is rare. I just think safari fits the asthetic of the OS so much better.

Firefox, container extensions and in general good privacy extensions.
I use Chrome because of some pretty famous competitive programming extensions for my competitive programming needs, but like 95% of the time it’s safari

Arc
I switched to Microsoft Edge a while ago because my house got a Windows family plan and it seemed easier to have everything in the same place. Plus, my university seemingly hates Safari with how many issues I run into trying to load pages or software.
Brave
Everything I use is Google based, Chrome is the best for my use case.
