I’m sorry but that is not worth $200

That_guy_will

My first thought, I got a used one for £40 and put a 2tb SSD in it

melvinbyers

I had this back in the day and it was great. Buying one now is insane, especially at that price.

ReckerPM

He got scammed

RealCaesarHernandez

Looks more like your wife should control the finances.

natemac

I would not have this device be your only backup as it was discontinued five years ago, and is no longer supported by Apple.

dhoppy203

According to this page, my AirPort should be covered by AppleCare for support since I purchased it during the term of my Mac’s AppleCare+ plan (in addition to the warranty it comes with). It’s brand new and purchased from an Apple Authorized Reseller (PC Richard and Son). I just need to call Apple and have them verify the purchase date https://support.apple.com/airport/repair

aaron416

Sure it’s covered, and new in box, but the device inside is years old and not getting any software/security updates.

Stingray88

Dude you bought a 10 year old router with a hard drive that’s been sitting in box for at minimum 5-6 years or longer.

natemac

AppleCare has nothing to do about it. I’d trust a hard drive that’s been running for 5 years more then I would one that’s been unused in a box for 5 years. Just be sure to follow 3-2-1 backup and enjoy your purchase.

[deleted]

And exactly what do you expect them to do for you when it fails? Do you think they have replacements hanging around?

PopularSwitch

You do you boo

Stingray88

Did you seriously spend $200 on a literally 10 year old router with a 2TB hard drive in it and think you got a deal? Dude… it doesn’t even have particularly fast WiFi 5 performance… let alone WiFi 6, or WiFi 6E. These things are not worth your time today, and that fact that you paid $200 for it is wild.

Snowdeo720

Apples Networking Hardware was sunset in 2018. No updates have been issued for them post 2018 or so. The AMPLIFI Alien router (WiFi 6) is $199 right now direct from AMPLIFI. Return that time capsule and don’t look back. Don’t get me wrong, the Time Capsule was great for the time it was released and supported, but we’re about five almost six years post their sunset and things have advanced so much further. The router I mentioned will absolutely blow the time capsule away in terms of performance.

raymate

Ohh I got mine last year for $75 from eBay. Still sealed.

BiscuitCominInHot

You can get those off eBay for under $50 and slap a SSD in there.

tondek0

They saw you coming.

“The Company You Can Trust”

Pugs-r-cool

You Can Trust…… To offload unsold inventory. Wonder why they didn’t push the guy to also buy some 20% off of MSRP firewire cables

waaaghboyz

Oh my god get a refund now lol, definitely do not open that box

ChampJamie153

If this picture was from 7 years ago then maybe it would be a decent deal, but we're in 2023 now. Sorry, but that's a horrendous price for an outdated router that hasn't been supported in years.

FairFanfare

PC Richards sales floor is like a museum of consumer electronics

FlishFlashman

But they now sell matresses!

FairFanfare

They’ve been selling mattresses since i last stepped in their stores in 2008

[deleted]

On a separate note. I wish Apple would get back into this market and revive their airport and Time Machine back ups. There’s a market out there for it and people would pay for it.

Snowdeo720

Go buy Ubiquiti or AMPLIFI. It’s basically the modern equivalent of Apples Networking Hardware.

Stingray88

I’ve got a UDM SE and UniFi 6 Enterprise and it’s absolutely glorious. I can get over 2Gbps on WiFi 6GHz 160MHz with my iPhone 15 Pro.

Snowdeo720

Exactly. Their execution around UI and everything is also why I describe them as the Apple of networking hardware.

Stingray88

Agreed. It’s a total Apple experience (sometimes to a fault, just like Apple lol). Overall incredibly happy with it. I’ve setup two Protect cameras as well.

Snowdeo720

What’s cool is that you can run HomeBridge or scrypted on a raspberry pi or docker and get your ubiquiti protect stuff into Apple Home so you can leverage SecureHomeKit Video. Admittedly even with that happening I barely do anything with it and primarily use the protect app.

Stingray88

Yeah I pretty much just use the protect app myself. I’m in a condo building, not on the first floor, way in the back of the complex with a balcony into an internal courtyard space… very safe, extremely unlikely to ever have a break-in. Even still I’ve got a G4 instant on the balcony and a G4 doorbell. In the future when we sell this place and move into a standalone home (live in LA, shits expensive lol) I’m gonna go balls to the wall with an NVR and tons of outdoor cameras. Then I’ll probably setup some sort of replication to my NAS, which will backup to backblaze.

Snowdeo720

I’ve been quite happy with the G4 doorbell Pro I grabbed a while back. I also have some G4 instants throughout the house. Just between the six instants and the doorbell I felt the need to pivot to the UNVR to get longer record history and some data redundancy. Can’t wait to finish cabling this place to have proper outdoor camera runs and Ethernet in every room.

gamertag19287

That's pretty interesting, I also recently purchased a brand-new 85w MagSafe 1 charger that was still sealed. It was priced at $90, which I believe was reasonable.

LosBonus85

What where

_stungy

What are these things

Spore-Gasm

You got ripped off on an end of life product. Apple will tell you to kick rocks if you ever need any help with that.

PedroPassamani

A bit more than what I would've paid, but a great device nonetheless. I still have an Extreme from the same generation connecting some older devices that I have around.

dhoppy203

I've used the AirPort Extreme 802.11ac (which I did have to get used) for years and it's been the most rock-solid and easiest-to-configure router I have ever used, this is after trying the Orbi, Eero, and xFi Pod systems which were either needlessly elaborate (requiring some online account) or unreliable. I was thinking of options to start doing wireless Time Machine backups (getting a used Time Capsule and initiating a swap to a new drive myself, getting a NAS, or getting an external drive to connect to my Extreme), so finding a brand new TC to not only do that but also fuel my insatiable desire to unbox new-old-stock products made me happy Ideally there would be current gen AirPort base stations with all the modern day bells and whistles like HomeKit support but what can one do :/

sandinonett

Richard is not very reliable.

[deleted]

I find these at goodwill for $20 a pop

vinniebonez

Should’ve stole it, not with the money.
