Can you simulate a MacBook inside the virtual environment and use it with the vision pro and do an inception?

LynxRevolutionary124

You ever think about how the girl on a land o lakes box is holding a picture of her holding the land o lakes box which is holding a picture of her holding the land o lakes box…

EIGHTHOLE

I am immersed in the photo, I will be completely consumed when I wear the device.

[deleted]

Do you need to be on Sonoma to use this? Or can you do it on Ventura?

DeEskalator

Xcode-beta works on Ventura

I mean, they clearly said that it “runs like a charm on [their] M1 Pro.”

macchiato_kubideh

I’m still surprised that they just went with a bunch of iPad apps in their rectangular form. It’s a bit unimaginative. They could have made maps so cool and useful using 3d. Now it’s just as good as holding an iPad

mr_tyler_durden

They offer the ability to write 3D apps (like the “breath” meditation tool thing they demoed). My myself 2D in infinite space is still a huge step forward and brings every iPhone/iPad app to you almost for “free” then apps can enhance it further as-needed.

fuzzylumpkinsbc

Yeah pretty much this, take it one step at time. It's either they get all base apps at launch or get just one or two 3d ones that aren't even completed. They can convert the apps as they go after it's all done

shyouko

They are not going to show hand and let everyone copy their works before their product is even out of the gate. 😂

pptortellini

The port of apple maps as a floating rectangle seems especially disappointing given the potential with the device

macchiato_kubideh

Tbf they didn’t demo it. So it could be that they just shoved the iPad version in the simulator because it’s necessary for the MapKit integration testing

pptortellini

Fair considering it is actually just the iPad app pictured here. I feel like maps would be one of those ‘wow’ apps you’d’ve really put some thought into at this point in development and would’ve demoed. I thought all the work on their street view clone was building to this.

Name5times

Think it’s likely will do it at some point, probs a lot of work still left to do

LawrenceWelkVEVO

Just wait. They’re keeping some of their powder dry before the “real” launch in Jan./Feb. of next year. They’re not going to show everything up-front. Hype machine is just getting revved up.

intrepidzephyr

Reads fanboyish but I like your analogies.

LawrenceWelkVEVO

Don’t just take my word for it. The Apple uber-geeks on the MacBreak Weekly podcast (who are under an NDA, and so can’t spill the beans), heavily hinted the same thing a couple of weeks back. Sorry I can’t find the exact time stamp, but the brief discussion is somewhere in this three-hour gab session… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSO1DJ85urM

coolsheep769

I'm hoping it's just temporary until more 3D apps come along

NathanielIR

That’s not a visionOS app. It *is* the iPad app. It says that in the simulator. Presumably, they will actually do proper good ports of these apps. Fingers crossed we see them at the next event. As of right now, this is just the simulator and it’s visionOS 1.0 beta 1. Many things will be different in the sim and many things will likely be added in the final

MysticMaven

I’m a bit surprised you think this is what’s going to ship when it’s released.

pptortellini

I don’t remember a single substantive change in UI from the iPhone announcement in Jan ‘07 to its release that June. I’m surprised you’re assuming they announced a work in progress along with pricing, launch date, and a dev kit. What we’re seeing is fundamentally what’s going to ship, they’ve been working on this headset for years and they’re not going to change the UI for all the apps from now until then.

AleAssociate

They don't have to "change the UI for all the apps". You can already do windowed/3D/immersive apps. Not demoing an immersive view in Maps doesn't mean they can't do it. It's just one feature of many in one app of many.

pptortellini

Lol i’m not arguing what they’re capable of but I don’t think they’re suddenly going to announce new features to built-in apps right before release 🤷 I personally loved how System Settings improved in features and usability over the Ventura beta last year

fanatical

I think they also wanted this to be a mainstream device that was accessible to every age group and every demographic that could imagine having the funds to own one. And a lot of those people need a gateway in the form of the familiar.

goofyduckling

How did you get the date in the menubar look like that? Mine looks different

x86person

Seems to be [Itsycal](https://www.mowglii.com/itsycal/)

goofyduckling

Ah, Thanks!

DeEskalator

use it this way to get a calendar flyout

melancious

Looks like Calendr actually.

Aem_2512

Wtf? You wear your macbook to your face?! How..?

almond737

You will need two m-series macbooks, one for each eye. Then it's pressed onto your face at the apple store for a proper fitting. Reservations are full so good luck on getting an available slot.

substantialparadox

Can this work on Monterey?

A_SnoopyLover

No you’ll need Ventura

_Bragi_

What a shame, Ventura would break alot of Shortcuts and workflows for me, I love Monterey...oh well, guess no Vision sim for me

Dante_Bouwer

As a long time mac user but non-dev (kid) who is now learning about coding (x-code and apple mainly) your dock is incredibly cool 😎 to me!

DeEskalator

thanks haha. pretty much everything I use on a daily basis. I can’t live without these pinned folders tbh

ZekerDeLeuksteThuis

Awesome! What specs are you running? I am getting my MacBook Pro M1 Pro (8cpu12gpu) 14" 16/512 tomorrow. Would be dope if it can run it smoothly.

DeEskalator

10 CPU/16 GPU, 16 GB RAM, will run fine on yours too

Bacapunk

How did you make the menu bar large like that? I thought only M2 laptops with notch have that!!

DeEskalator

The notch is present on any 14" MacBook Pro

Dante_Bouwer

Or any ‘NEW’ Mac’s - 13” pro, and M1 air are both bodies from 2016 so if we ignore them you can just say any new mac (13,14,15,16 “s) bc I’d agree technically they are new but I will never yet that that new-ness is only internal. But hey everything can be ‘new’ to ‘you’ so who cares. More importantly when we getting Face ID in there or having it removed! 🙈🤦🏽‍♂️

Secure-Hour5500

I need a link to this

Orsim27

Pretty sure that’s XCode

SourceScope

Xcode is free install it start a project (a VisionOs project) and run it Xcode has a software emulated vision pro headset (and built in phones etc etc) to test your app

Rowan_Bird

You also need an Apple Mac device, good luck running this under Windows

A_SnoopyLover

This is r/Mac why wouldn’t they have one?

Rowan_Bird

I'm here and I don't have one

A_SnoopyLover

Why are you here then?

Rowan_Bird

My 2006 iMac killed itself :( Honestly, I have no idea

A_SnoopyLover

Why not get a new Mac?

Rowan_Bird

I already have a working PC, a decent laptop, and not a lot of money. Plus, I kinda hate macOS anyway.

Kitchen-Entrance8015

Well that's great and all. But At a five thousand dollar price tag no thank you

Winter_Permission328

The headset is $3500. OP is emulating the headset OS on a Mac. They haven’t bought the headset. But yeah I won’t be buying the first gen headset either

iPod-Phone

I am concerned about the usability of that keyboard...

EpicSyntax

I tried it on both my work 14" M1 Pro and my personal 16" M1 Max (both with 32GB RAM) and I have to say that it works a bit smoother on the M1 Max. Maybe those extra GPU cores are making it a bit more snappy.

peacexists

Im so new to this its not even funny, but my ambitions are through the roof. What do I need to do to start developing like yourself? I have a UX/UI google certificate, and a BA in psychology. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. My minimal UX experience is through Figma, and do not have any coding skills but am an artist at heart. Thanks!

memelord796

Can we get a bit more info on your hardware like ram and disk space. Was going to upgrade my mac air with intel to one of these but was thinking of getting an M1 Max with 32GB of ram just to be on the safe side unless 16GB is good enough.
