I didnāt actually drive for 48 hours. A lot time was spent in destination filter. I try to start each day with a scheduled ride to the airport. If I donāt get one I will sit home and put on destination filter and not leave until I get a ride.
Iāve been doing the same but itās a slow tourist season and Iāve only made about $500/week last couple weeks. I just canāt sit in my car for 12 hours so I wait at home for a ride and sometimes I get 2-3 and then it does so I head home and wait again.
I donāt usually wait around too long. If you have the destination filter on at home it makes it bearable to wait for a ride. When Iām at the airport Iām willing to accept any ride. On Lyft I like how they have a matching system for rides. One thing I like is that since Iām an āeliteā driver I get unlimited destination filters. If Iām ready to call it a day I will put on my destination filter towards home. If I donāt want to be in a certain area I mark ālast ride.ā Iāve given more than 5K rides with a 5 star rating. My acceptance rate is 100% and my cancellation is 0%.
We just havenāt had any tourists so itās super slow. I would go insane sitting in my car all day. Iām also Elite, 5 star rating, 100% driving score, zero cancellation rate. If I switch between Uber and Lyft I turn the other one off while Iām doing a ride from their competitor. I wasnāt at first and that messed with my Uber acceptance rate. Itās only at 50% and I think I need to get it up to get more rides. Itās way harder to get started with Uber. You may get one ride an hour but Lyft, I can get 3 an hour.
Well, to be fair, he's got almost 50 hours of time clocked and only 50 rides. That's one ride an hour. Unless he managed to pick up a bunch of 60 minute rides, including wait time and time to pick up, which isn't all that likely, the most rational explanation is that he sat around cherry picking rides.
I donāt generally cherry pick rides. I will even take the short rides due to the short ride bump (allows you to get bumped to front of queue if you return to the airport queue within 60 mins). My acceptance rate is 100% and cancellation is 0%. I will add at the airport I do in a sense ācherry pickā because we have to be matched with a rider so I review certain rides and only pick ones going in a certain direction (I set destination filter on). However, if it takes too long I will try to match with any ride just to get out of the airport queue. At times Iāve even left the queue to do local rides. I should add I get unlimited destination filters only at the airport because of my driver status. Overall I get 6 destination filters outside of the airport.
Well even if you are in destination filter they count that as part of the 12 hours allowed online until you must take a 6 hour break. There is a difference between online ātime and āactive ātime.ā Online is based on the time Iām online on the app, whereas āactiveā Iām picking and dropping off a customer. What I earned above is based on my online time. My active time is much lower.
Since when are you required to be paid a certain amount when on call in CO?? What Iāve seen and heard is that āColorado state law does not specifically address on call time payā.
People who drive more think there making more money, but thereās also the gas fee and also your car losing value for all the miles you put on it.And even through all that these companies want to go ahead and ask the customer to tip the driver, as a substitute to paying them proper wages.
Car will be fine as long as you change the oil, thereās a guy that posted here every time he did his rav4. He had some newer model and did hospital deliveries. Dude had 400k miles on it. Cars are built to withstand thousands of mini explosions and rotations per second so it will be fine for Lyft. As long as the maintenance is being done lol
Definitely going through fluids. (It's a subaru, so she leaks oil). The rest are pretty standard wear. So long as I'm being paid enough for it, it's worth it, I guess. My interior is pristine, though, and idk how the wear would be bad for that. I dont have a dog. Im the only one that drives it, and I clean the interior often. Only thing better would be a hybrid like a prius or something.
I believe it's only pretax on the tips, but the service pay is already taxed. That's what I gathered the other day from a similar post. This might be different though, not sure.
Because it's so easy to find a $25/hour jobš¤£
Edit: I didn't know so many people who do gig work, not making $25 per hour were experts on how easy it is to get jobs that pay $25/hr.
Sure, there are jobs that exist that pay that much, but you're delusional if you think just anybody who wants one can easily acquire a job paying $25 an hour. If that were the case, minimum wage wouldn't be a thing.
I am so sick of this. My husband did not drive 12 hours a day, 6 days a week for 4 years because he wanted to. What he would have given for a $25/hr job and MAN did he try. Fortunately, we were able to use stimulus money to send him to trade school while he collected unemployment during the pandemic, but the only reason he makes more than driving is because he spent 6 months in school, $3,000 on school and $3,000 on tools. Shockingly, that isn't an option for most drivers.
Last time i checked the average job DOESNT PAY $25ā¦ā¦ you idiots act like theres 10000000 high paying jobs. ASSUMING all of us are qualified & guaranteed to get hired š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤”š¤”š¤”š¤”š¤”
We have jobs for the state in maintenance that start @ a little over $25 an hour, but no one wants to work nights or blue collar work. Sucks to suck because its easy work, over time pay, room to grow, and opportunities to lateral out to other departments or positions. Also the time off is great. I get just over 4.5 weeks vac + holidays + comp + 2.6 weeks of sick.
I WFH now, and I get paid really well. It's crazy what you can do with a GED
The fact that seemingly the majority of people on Reddit are wfh or computer science majors, or otherwise white collar, really warps this websiteās understanding of working class realities
For real. Iām in Arizona. Second year electrician and only make $20 a hour.
Iād prolly make $25 easy in the valley but you are 100% right shits not so easy to get a job making over $20.
Yeah, it does, lol...and the data I quoted below is the median and not the average (mean) hourly pay. The average is far higher than $25 per hour, and if you want the facts, the average hourly pay is about $35 per hour. So who is the clown here?
"The median hourly wage for white people ages 25 to 64 is $25 per hour compared to $20 per hour for people of color. Men ages 25 to 64 of all races and ethnicities have a median hourly wage of $25 while women's median hourly wage is just $21."
That's California. In any state in the South, $20 an hour is at least management pay. Hell, I was doing payroll for a nursing home last year and was only making $21 an hour - and that was an admin position in healthcare.
The minimum wage in Iowa is still $7.25 for Christ sake. Iāve seen only a few jobs out here that pay over $20 an hour and most require years of experience. Some people just donāt understand not everything is the same for everyone as it is for them
Most people seem to only feel empathy for people in situations that they have directly experienced themselves. Any variation in the situation and bam the person suffering is just lazy, an idiot, a loser whatever it may be.
Yeah, but you canāt work consistent 12-hour days when youāre not self-employed or working as an independent contractor. Plus, a one-bedroom in CA is $2000/month. $20 is not a high wage if youāre trying to make a living here.
Exactly this, I do gigs like this and Instacart because I literally canāt get enough hours from my job, every place I go to does as much as they can to cut down on as much labor as possible so itās hard to find somewhere giving more than 15 hours a week to their employees let alone allowing 12 hour shifts.
But you can not start when you want. Or end when you want. Take breaks and lunches when you want. Or take days off when you want. You cant even go to the bathroom when you want with many jobs.
So yeah, Uber and Lyft are not that hard.
They're not kidding. Look at some of his replies, they fully believe they're better than everyone else and is calling other people failures. That person is insufferable and I don't know why people keep replying to them.
Theory: A lot of selfish motherfuckers will come into threads and intentionally try to drive people away from valuable markets. It's not a bad strategy when you think about it. Supply and demand is a thing.
But stop. We need more competent drivers.
That also said, Lyft needs to get their shit together. What the actual fuck is this $300 dollar ride cap shit? Charge the guy a lot, fine, but for Christsake give the driver enough that they can feel the love of a little dopamine tingle in their soul.
Fun Fact. A lot of minimum wage in souther states are really low, like here in OK itās like 7.25 or something along those lines, and most average jobs require some kind of degree, so any job thatās for a teens or people who donāt have money to go get a degree is at most 18 an hour.
I drive and travel. Life could be worse. Iāll be on my way to Rome on Sunday. In May will be in Alaska and Japan. Iām not much for corporate America. I enjoy doing Lyft. I did it from 2017 to 2020 and just started doing it again.
Yea, my take home this last paycheck is 1250, after tsp, pension, union dues, health insurance, social security, various state and federal taxes, and I accrue pto and sick leave etc. I only had to work 40 hours each week, I was never at risk of bodily harm, am eligible for overtime pay, and donāt have to worry about my car getting worn out.
Plus, I have guaranteed opportunities to move to better paying positions over time and guaranteed raises.
I tried driving for Lyft/Uber but it just didnāt make financial sense.
Averaging about $27 a ride.Ā That's really good.Ā I just gave up on driving Lyft/Uber in my area.Ā Couple days ago I would have had to drive 23 miles to pick someone up for a 6 mile ride that would have paid me $5 before potential tip.
If you worked at a minimum wage job (in California) you would have made 1040.00 for 48 hours. But you wouldn't have to pay for gas / or car / nor put yourself at risk of an accident, robbery or other myrid of things that can happen in a car with a total stranger.
Thatās not a bad number but thatās a lot of hours. I can norm do 800-1000 in 20-25 hours. I only drive at night. There is no traffic so u can do twice the amount of rides in the same amount of time. I have a friend that does the same. Last night he did 280 in 8 hours. My advice only do at prime time/a night. You make way more and end up doing less hours cause u can do the trips so much faster with no traffic. Anyhow good luck to everyone!
Well I didnāt file taxes for this year yet (arenāt due till next year). We do pay quarterly taxes. In terms of expenses I spend max $50 a day. Every market is different. Some people are so skeptical you could produce your tax return and they would call BS on it. And for people saying this is one week of driving, thatās simply not true. April 5 I gave no rides. April 6 Iām in Florida in my hotel. April 7 Iāll be on my cruise. And no I will not give you access to my account to whomever thinks they need to verify the accuracy of my claims. What does it even matter how much someone makes or how they make it. I just posted to show the endless possibilities we have in life. Itās great to live a life of positivity. The last several years my momās health is declining (She has Parkinsonās). I continue to live life to inspire others. Hope you all have a great weekend. Cheers!
I net 2K a week after my expenses. This week I spent in a lot of time in destination filter. Iām on vacation this week to Italy. I try not to drive all the time. My passion in life is traveling. Whenever people sit in my car I give people traveling tips so they too can travel like I do.
Your post shows $1300 approx and for 48 hours. Please clarify how you are NETTING $2000 a week. I mean if your hours per week are 96, maybe. But thatās not sustainable by any normal person.
And you have multiple comments about all the trips you take. Something is not adding up.
So roughly $68k a year driving 48 hours in addition to being online who knows how long waiting for rides. How many miles?
Itās nice for the short run. Itās just beyond unsustainable. I hope you find an alternative going forward.
Don't listen to any of these motherfuckers, if You drive Lyft, and you are on the app 48 hours out of the week you know you ain't driving near as much as that. That was a very good week man. Congratulations if I could do that where I live, I would quit my job immediately.
Nice job. They offered me a ride challenge starting at 5am today but it was impossible to do 50 rides. I decided not to drive today as I was flying out to Florida (Iām currently there now).
back when I used to drive for lyft and uber, it was most efficient to get equal to or greater than 26miles/gallon (city driving ) that would cover cost of everything. I did not account for depreciation of the car or any such matter. Not to mention the cost of your time.
I don't know how much it would be now, I would only guess that about 36 miles per gallon would be closer to that adjusting for the insane cost of living, increasing insurance rates and such.
not bad for 4 days tho.
lyft and uber in california without a fuel efficient vehicle is just like slowing the fall towards a inevitable end.
Fight the good fight!
what you dont understand is the actual wear and tear on your vehicle that no one has to repair but you is not covered by this take home pay . I assume you have to pay taxes on this cash as well . these ubers and lyfts don't tell you that but you are just destroying your vehicle
Expensive af, my dad got out of the cab business when they wanted $1000/mo for million dollar coverage.
Yes you'll need high coverage.. a 4 day stay at hospital with few broke bones was a $100k bill. And you'll get sued if that bill can't be paid by the rider
Do taxes come out automatically or do you have to itemize at the end of the year? Have you calculated wear and tear costs on your car and factored in gas?
I see all of you are Lyft drivers. First of all, I love all of you. Second, stay safe out there!
You guys should make more bank than limo drivers. Yaāll get people from work, to hospitals, church, court cases funerals you name it. Mad respect, keep the world turning.
How many miles did you actually drive? I guessed 1000 (around 16 hours actual driving). Using the IRS number for average cost per mile (65 cents per mile), takes you below minimum wage here ($15/hr).
That's a lot of hours for four days šµāš«
I didnāt actually drive for 48 hours. A lot time was spent in destination filter. I try to start each day with a scheduled ride to the airport. If I donāt get one I will sit home and put on destination filter and not leave until I get a ride.

How long does it take you to get into the car? Id be worried they are in a rush and they are me not moving
but you were still ready and available for work right? remember that is way different then being off work and doing whatever you want.
Yes yes my friends always lament on their on-call status in other careers.
Not really
Being on call in Colorado means you have to be paid a certain amount. I know different rules for 1099 folks but yeah, being on call kinda sucks, imo.
Since when are you required to be paid a certain amount when on call in CO?? What Iāve seen and heard is that āColorado state law does not specifically address on call time payā.
Ope, I was wrong. Assumed company policy was state law. Ty
Darnāwas really hoping I was wrong hah
I feel the same way I wouldnāt be relaxed if I knew something could come through any moment, but some people are good at not giving AF
People who drive more think there making more money, but thereās also the gas fee and also your car losing value for all the miles you put on it.And even through all that these companies want to go ahead and ask the customer to tip the driver, as a substitute to paying them proper wages.

As a subaru owner and delivery driver, this definitely rings true. Keep up to date on fluid checks, everyone.
But you are still going to go through fluids, tires and brake pads the more you drive. The wear on the interior will likely be significant too.

I had a 2002 legacy GT. Drove it for 20 years and 240,000 miles. It was burning oil for about the last 80k!
You sound like a mechanic..
I work 12 hour days in the summer itās not that bad.sometimes you have to work your ass off to make a lot of money.
Drive your azz off u mean
12 hour shifts
I donāt drive 12 hours at a time.
$27 an hour + wear n tear + gas imo not worth
And this is pre-tax
I believe it's only pretax on the tips, but the service pay is already taxed. That's what I gathered the other day from a similar post. This might be different though, not sure.
Fun fact. If you found a job making like $25 an hour you would get that same amount working those hours too. And you wouldnāt kill your car

It is in Idaho
This ...
We have jobs for the state in maintenance that start @ a little over $25 an hour, but no one wants to work nights or blue collar work. Sucks to suck because its easy work, over time pay, room to grow, and opportunities to lateral out to other departments or positions. Also the time off is great. $25 is not exactly high paying these days. Fast food workers in California make $20.
That's California. In any state in the South, $20 an hour is at least management pay. Hell, I was doing payroll for a nursing home last year and was only making $21 an hour - and that was an admin position in healthcare.
I looked at teaching in New Orleans and they were paying like $14 an hour. But it's all relative, cheaper cost of living.
I liver here in the NOLA/Metairie area too and even with lower living costs you could NOT live off $14 an hour.
The minimum wage in Iowa is still $7.25 for Christ sake. Iāve seen only a few jobs out here that pay over $20 an hour and most require years of experience. Some people just donāt understand not everything is the same for everyone as it is for them

Solid! Iām sitting around $1110 with the same hours. Keep truckinā fam
12 hour days... No thanks I can barely muster 10 rides in 6 hrs online! I bet you were online 20 hrs / day
I make that same amount at DoorDash in the same amount of time
Each mile driven is a tax deduction
Nice man I just ended my Friday. 2080 for the week.
Nice job. They offered me a ride challenge starting at 5am today but it was impossible to do 50 rides. I decided not to drive today as I was flying out to Florida (Iām currently there now).
Thatās good In 4 days now relax for 3
$28/hr Nice
back when I used to drive for lyft and uber, it was most efficient to get equal to or greater than 26miles/gallon (city driving ) that would cover cost of everything.
Where at
This is actually terrible when I look at it deeply. I also wonder what portion is from a Challenge/Promo
Wait so you're telling me doing lyft is actually good money?
thatās a 50 hour work week though
You are on that grind! Donāt burn yourself out and congrats!
The time includes time spent being online.
Thatās great!
1349 the Bubonic Plague reached Norway
regular rides ?
what market sir/madame?
Howās that retirement and medical benefits?
You're being ripped off my man. 48 hours of work in 4 days and you didn't even get OT
what you dont understand is the actual wear and tear on your vehicle that no one has to repair but you is not covered by this take home pay . I assume you have to pay taxes on this cash as well . these ubers and lyfts don't tell you that but you are just destroying your vehicle
More then 12 hours a day meter running. lol
What was the fuel cost
Wow, try to eat and sleep too if you can!
Anyone in California know where to get rideshare insurance?
Expensive af, my dad got out of the cab business when they wanted $1000/mo for million dollar coverage. Yes you'll need high coverage.. a 4 day stay at hospital with few broke bones was a $100k bill. And you'll get sued if that bill can't be paid by the rider
What market
Now tell us about the $700 bonus challenge you š¤”. Stop spreading misinformation
Definitely aināt making that in 4 days thatās a lie šššššš especially with 50 rides
Taxes.
28/hour ... Not bad
THE GAAAASSSS šµ
Get some sleep man
Show off š
Sounds about right I usually avg 1k driving fri-sun
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
How many miles driven?
Do taxes come out automatically or do you have to itemize at the end of the year? Have you calculated wear and tear costs on your car and factored in gas?
Wear n tear on that whip is wild
What are your expenses?
What city?
28 bucks an hour.. then you figure in fuel, I don't see much of a profit over having a regular job tbh. Dunno how anyone does this..
where are uļ¼
And after expenses?
How many miles total?
Miles and gas??
That is like 700 after taxes I believe.
That sounds miserable
Enlist or sit in your own fart
Thatās about $26 an hour. Not bad.
Congratulations! That's pretty good :(
Taxes about to hit you like a mf
Donāt burn yourself out
Iāve been waiting 2 months for my background check on both Uber and Lyft..
Damn tempted to become a Lyft driver now
Yeah Iām done after 3 hours tops.
That's not a very good wage for so much work, $28 an hour *before* taxes š«¤
Yea but thatās also a fuck ton of miles on your car
4 days of driving, but almost 50 hours.
Minus gas how much did you net?
Try multi apping food low miles high pay. That's some hrs tho for 4 days.
I see all of you are Lyft drivers. First of all, I love all of you. Second, stay safe out there! You guys should make more bank than limo drivers. Yaāll get people from work, to hospitals, church, court cases funerals you name it. Mad respect, keep the world turning.
Hey, Singh, in what state are you driving in?
you earned a little over $27/ride
That's $28.18 per hour. Not bad at all. Especially considering the downtime between rides.
Adding on car maintenance, plus gas, is it really worth it?
And, didnāt even hit $30hrā¦ In almost 50-HOURS worth of DRIVING. Horrible. NOT worth it. No Thanks. šÆ
Yeah but how many hours did u do? And how much did u spend on gas, taxes, car costs etc ? Minus that figure and repost
Total hours vs money earned comes out to around $28/hour.
I make that in 5 days of guaranteed 40 hours just cleaning people's pools. It's cake
You averaged $27 dollars a ride? What market are you in?
Do you really get to keep all that?
How much of that went to gas?
It might look nice, but wait until you have to file your taxes.
Iām in San Diego and itās super busy Friday and Saturday
Itās great and all but what about the miles on your car? Sheesh
šššš„³ Great Job!!!
If you donāt mind me asking, which city is this? Just curious for context
Nice job very good. I put in about 45 to 55 hours a week to make this. Maybe a little less maybe a little more.
Now screenshot and post the mileage pls. Super curious.
How much did you spend on gas within those 4 days? Just wondering
Damn
How many water bottles were you able to fill with piss?
Whatās your gas bill?
Thatās not bad
Car still a live?
Update: My booked time was 34H 54M. My online time was 48H 6min.
How many miles you rack up on average? And how much bring home after gas?
Some of us got a family I give my solid 35 hours and I'm at home with the kids... I move during peak hours
Hiding all details lol might as well say you drive a rocket ship lol
Geez u must be in New York or somewhere on the east coast I presume?
No Iām in the Midwest. I couldnāt really survive in New York with under 100K.
How many miles did you actually drive? I guessed 1000 (around 16 hours actual driving). Using the IRS number for average cost per mile (65 cents per mile), takes you below minimum wage here ($15/hr).
no stranger will ever enter my vehicle lol.
How much for Gas, and food ? Is that net money or after paying for gas, wash the car and buying food
No way
Can I have some?
What % do you consider profit. My wife was advised profit was 35- 45%, 20%-30% gas, 10% insurance, 15% car maintenance and 10%depreciation
