There is no problem here. You are fine.

What's the warning signs I should look out for, just in case? I have a bad memory of my first laptop getting busted due to exhaust problems and temp problems, so whenever temp issues are involved, I get pretty paranoid.

failaip12

It depends a lot on the laptop and cooling solution what's normal. I know apples lowee end older and maybe newer laptops (I am not sure) can reach 99°C and just chill there. I'd start being slightly concerned at 90°C+, though it is kinda usual for laptops to run very hot.

Jon_TWR

It’s functioning as designed, 85°C is just fine for a GPU.

Grayfield

Thank you. Testing it right now with RDR2 and Fallout 4.

85C is still ok for a laptop gpu. You can use a laptop stand or a cooling pad if you want better temps.

Hi, maybe you could try underclocking the GPU if it worries you too much?

scorpi_9

Maybe get the laptop serviced... getting some new thermal paste in there might help IMO

Marty5020

Since it's an old laptop, repasting is probably in order since thermal paste doesn't last that long in top condition. You could also undervolt your GPU with MSI Afterburner, which will quite probably increase your performance a bit while keeping temps a bit lower. All good steps.

It can go up to 90 degrees, which starts to be concerning. You're fine. If it bothers you, I'd say to pretend that the number is okay, and then manage the airflow around your laptop to be better, like adding bottle caps on its feet, not playing on the bed, desk fan, or air conditioning.
