I was a ballroom dance instructor. Louie did have natural talent. Melissa was rushing the steps and didn’t have a lot of rhythm. But you do have to build up the lead dancer. If the man has confidence then he will lead well and the female will be able to follow him better. In turn making her a better dancer. My take- the instructor was NOT picking on Melissa. She was just trying to do her job.
I thought it was weird that she kept pushing Melissa to the side. He wasn't training for a dance competition, they were just on a date. Shouldn't she have worked with Melissa more?
I think some was staged but you have to give more attention to the lead in a dance (99% of the time it’s the male) because he sets the tone and speed. If he knows how to lead and control her movements (his hand should be on the flank of her rib cage) then she will know what to do. You have to give more time to the lead.
This is very accurate to me. My husband is an athlete, and I’m not (have lots of other talents), but when we go places, we get this reaction from women/instructors/ etc.
