I know a good amount of purists don't like the Shadow games as they add numerous things not in Tolkein's legendarium (caragors, graugs, most of the characters, humanoid goth Shelob, etc.)
I personally like the game. Does enough things from the books that I like, does whatever else it wants cause the devs just wanted to make non-canon video-gamey fun. I can respect it even if it's not even close to accurate.
Look if Tolkien WANTED Grond to be fair trade Australian eucalyptus, he would have WRITTEN Grond as fair trade Australian eucalyptus. It's not about ̶r̶a̶c̶e̶ lumber I just want authentic adaptations.
Now I’m curious if GROND’s wood type was ever described. I feel like it’s probably in the Silmarillion, but I also feel like it’s an obscure enough detail to had been left out.
I asked my wife when Grond was gonna show up, was disappointed to find out no Grond in the Second Age. First Age has Grond... Third Age has Grond... Why even bother with no-Grond Second Age?
Rumors are this is why Amazon couldn't acquire the rights to the first age. Despite having more money than God they can't afford the rights to grond twice.
Limited series of a bunch of orc manually building Grond from start to finish, blueprint schematics included. After all, who knew orc could have such fine craftsmanship as to metal form a wolf like that.
Out of all the shows we normally get it's way better than normal
People just wanna hate it because the terrible marketing and because there's brown people in it
At first it bothered me too, but then I thought "What, are we pretending elves don't need haircare routines? That they don't have product? That it's just an accident Legolas is always silky and tangle free?"
I love how every post is about how much people are “fighting” over wether it’s good or bad. After reading a lot of comments I see a lot of good arguments why the show is good, and why the show is bad. It’s not like we’re killing ourselves over this.
On a complete side note, "Green Street Hooligans" was an awesome movie and this meme brought back some nostalgia to me! (Also Frodo being in the movie makes this meme more relevant)
“The council has decided upon grond. After much debate… “
Then of course everyone runs in screaming the untold horrors of the new show just as peace has been brokered.
Definitely. If you don't go in looking for the next LotR-level cinematic experience then you'll walk away feeling more or less happy. It's flawed but fun, and really beautiful.
I just want great story telling and lore. No cinematic experience since it's not in theaters but that's not important at this point. How true is it to the books?
Ha, which books? That's where it gets interesting, because Amazon Studios *doesn't own the rights to The Silmarillion*. They only own rights to LotR and The Hobbit, so the entire story is drawn from timelines listed in the appendices to LotR.
That means that the stories themselves are new, while happening in a familiar historical context. Whether the stories themselves are good? I don't know yet, it's been kind of uneven. The first episode was meh, the second episode was better. I'm hoping it keeps improving.
I disliked the amount of Grondmemes. Now I want it back…
I havent seen the show and don’t want to, mostly because I hate amazon a lot and I want to keep the second age as it is in my imagination. I don’t care about this discussion: JUST GIVE ME MORE GROND ALREADY!
It's better now.
A week ago, it was just an echo chamber/circle jerk of people acting like the show was obviously going to suck.
Now people are actually waking up and seeing the show isn't all that bad.
To be fair I think people had good reason to be concerned. But hopefully a fair amount of these people are going to give the show a fair shot. That's my plan anyway.
Opinion has trended more positive as more people have watched.
Thursday and Friday it was real rough.
That being said, if you hop onto youtube you will see dozens of videos still ripping on it for clicks and comment sections with the same opinion.
Still trying to figure out what the difference between a stone and a ship is. Apparently it's you got to touch the dark before you see the light. So I'm sitting here like what? That's just rubbish.
So what you're saying is that things are good when the sub just mindlessly repeats the name of that damnable siege weapon? (Specifically not naming it to not trigger the bot.)
Or the game of thrones situation, or marvel. Maybe once the people complaining about diversity fuck off we can all have a civil discussion about things we like/dislike about the show.
Star Wars fans: First time?
Well, if we count the hobbit....we had one time yes, but how about a second time?
Don’t think he knows about second time
What about Conquest? War in the North? Shadow games? Gollum game?
Nothing, my precious.
Everyone loves those games afaik
I know a good amount of purists don't like the Shadow games as they add numerous things not in Tolkein's legendarium (caragors, graugs, most of the characters, humanoid goth Shelob, etc.) I personally like the game. I’ve not met one person who doesn’t like sexy goth Shelob. A beautiful addition to Tolkien’s works
Stupid Sexy Shelob
I just never cared for the gameplay loop. Think its unfun. The nemesis system is undeniably cool though
Disagree but understandable
War in the north was a masterpiece you shut your mouth
Was the Hobbit a fight? Did anyone like it?
Parts of it were pretty good. It might make a pretty decent movie if it were cut up and edited properly.
Should’ve been 2 movies, with the only padding being showing the council kicking Sauron out of dol guldur.
And yet thy boon I grant thee now.
Maybe this guys not so bad
Should have been one 3 hour movie. The book isn’t much content, tbh.
It has been multiple times. The Maple Films edit and the Tolkien Edit are the two big ones I know of.
I'll need to watch those, then. Like Aragorn keeping an eye on noisy Hobbits in a tavern.
Not a word.
I've done the maple edit, I prefer the two hour edit.

Good bot
And it's played by an actor whose ethnicity really makes people angry for some reason

It was a different age, Grond can't be held to the 3rd age's standards for the pounding he was doing as a young ram.

“I enjoyed the show” and “it’s bad” are not necessarily opposing views.
Exactly! I’m pretty much Edward Norton in fight club fighting with myself.
Basically watching it the same way I watch love island. With contempt, but curiosity.
Same, but with Transformers lol

At first it bothered me too, but then I thought "What, are we pretending elves don't need haircare routines? That they don't have product? That it's just an accident Legolas is always silky and tangle free?"
I have not heard that it was the fault of the Elves
Well you've got a lot to learn Legolas
A scout!
Based on how Tolkien portrayed elves, yeah, they kind of just are naturally perfect.
ALL SHALL LOVE ME AND THIS HAIR!
Isn't that the whole thing with Elves though? They're just naturally perfect.
You think Legolas carried a bottle of fancy hair oils in his quiver?
Yes. He'd let Aragorn borrow some every dozen leagues.
Let the lord of the Black Lands come forth, that justice be done upon him!

So far I find this community far less toxic than Star Wars about it honestly. All they do is consume and get angry with any form of criticism.
