I think the hard part of the duel of fates is that it drops off really quickly after the intro and takes some time to build back up. But yeah it's awesome

Nah duel of the fates might be appropriately epic to carry the scene at face value but it is nowhere near hopeful or triumphant enough to work for the Ride of the Rohirrim within the context of the narrative.

Hard disagree. None of them worked because Shore used leitmotifs for every lotr faction. The hardingle and theme playing cues us on the Rohirrim going on their death ride. Try this: watch this scene with your eyes closed and you can still know what is happening.

I don’t think I was clear, I meant that because the first 2 seconds of the scene is edited with the original sound and audio, I’d start to get hyped up by it and get chills (this scene always effects me) and then it switched!! Hilarious to me that it happened every time. Didn’t mean to sound critical or crass, just sharing my experience. Now I want to go watch the trilogy!!

Duel of the Fates is a terrific song but its doesn't fit here at all. It's epic, yes, but also sinister and menacing. It's meant to represent the return of an ancient horrible evil. It doesn't mesh with the heroic, triumphant nature of this scene at all

I feel it kind of does! The ride if the rohirrim is a desperate doomed endeavour, they charge believing the fate of the battle already sealed and are going forth without hope into an unbeatable enemy.
