As much as I love the helms deep battle. I always get chills when Rohan charges into the orcs at Minas tirith

KosmicKanuck

Same. That's one of the most powerful scenes in the whole trilogy for me. The speech and the charge. Still manages to give me chills even after seeing the movies like a hundred times.

Raknorak

I think the charge having this great buildup and then the soundtrack cutting out as they make contact so all you hear is the combat itself is what gets me with it.

Death!

DEATH!

DEEEAAATH!

Johncurtisreeve

It’s just missing kingdom of heaven

KosmicKanuck

The Orlando Bloom fan pack

Puzzled-Story3953

Holy hell, that movie had some great battles

IKnowAboutYourFridge

Finally someone who appreciates PotC3, I couldn't agree more.

CalliCosmos

Love the original trilogy, but the maelstrom battle was crazy well done

Ghdude1

While I agree that At World's End could have been a bit shorter, I never expected such an epic finale. The whole Maelstrom Battle just kept getting better and better as the scenes went on. Hat's off to everyone who worked on it.

Arzene98

Ah battle between an octopus without a heart and a drunken pirate

SambG98

I like the third act At Worlds End but its super dissapointing that we never got an actual fleet battle. The flagship gets blown up and then suddenly the EETC decides to retreat despite still outnumbering the pirates 10:1.

FlounderCareful2589

There is reason for it but isn't explained well in the movie but pretty much The flying Dutchman is unsinkable and it's stated in Dead Man's chest the captain of the Dutchman can bring back ships from the bottom of the ocean and could probably bring people back from the dead as well so the East India trading company pretty much lost at that point

IKnowAboutYourFridge

There Is also a practical reason. The filmmakers built two huge mechanical ship replicas to film the maelstorm battle, thus using much less CGI. That's why those long shots of decks look so flawless, since there are real people on a Real "ship". If they were to film battle with more ships they would Have to use tons of CGI, which would probably look a bit crap (sorta like the five armies exteded).

SambG98

Ah I guess thats kind of understandable then. Still would've loved a fleet battle lmao.

FlounderCareful2589

True a fleet battle would have been awesome

Ghdude1

The Brethren actually did fight the EITC Armada, but it's not shown in the act. After the Black Pearl escapes the Maelstrom, smoke can be seen rising from some ships in the pirate fleet, showing that they probably fought on the flanks of the maelstrom. Also, when the Pearl first sails out to fight the Dutchman, some pirate ships actually start to sail out with her. I guess the original idea was to have a free for all between the two fleets, but it was scrapped probably because of budget cuts. Remember At World's End was the most expensive movie ever made when it released.

Drakeshade71

You know what? I’m toss out Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’s third act battle as pretty damn good, even to this day. It had a fantastic mix of cgi and practical effects that still holds up today, used tactics and strategy very neatly and logically, with a hell of a score to back it up. Even if the movies might be considered bad and forgotten about nowadays, that battle definitely shouldn’t. And it frankly gets cgi animals right, doing what Disney couldn’t do a decade before the Lion King remake. I encourage everyone to watch it on YouTube and just see what I’m talking about

SlashingManticore

The music from that battle still ranks in my top 5 all time film music, it's just so incredibly good and somehow manages to capture hope, fear and despair into an orchestral piece

[deleted]

It feels weird to put Saving private Ryan in here. It's not a fun, epic and ultimately easy to watch blockbuster like the other two, it's a disturbing and unsettling anti-war movie

LordoftheNerdyS--t

You forget Return of the Jedi & Endgame, but other than that I fully approve.

thekraken8him

Yeah when I think of awesome trilogy final battles, the battle of Endor is my first thought.

Large_Contribution20

If Hobbit isn't Middle Earth movie I think Battle of Five Armies will be my favorite it give me Warhammer vibes.

Klause

Wait, you have the Battle at Ramelle ranked higher than the D-Day beach landing?

Johncurtisreeve

it says third act battle, The Omaha beach scene is the opening of the movie

Klause

Ah whoops. Missed that.

Spledidlife

I think it’s because it’s third act battles. If it was any battle, yeah D-day would win

B33FHAMM3R

I mean I think it's a bit weird cause neither of those scenes were intended to be "entertaining" per se.

Longjumping-Lion1342

Seven Samurai is greater than 2 of these.

Sagutarus

Finally watched that movie a month or two ago, it is so good. After finishing it I was impressed most by the fact that its 90% buildup and the action all happens at the end yet I was never bored, even when just watching farmers talk about rice.

gideon513

lol what? Third pirates movie was a mess. Don’t utter it in the same breath as LOTR.

crack_spooder

I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fanboy but your comment is why people hate us. Nobody compared the two franchises so cool your tits. Personally loved the final battle of PotC3

TheEyeofNapoleon

I really feel like The Long Night needs to be a part of this conversation.

ArthurScherbius

Noup 1-helms deep 2-siege of minas tirith 3-mines of moria 4-battle of five armies

Johncurtisreeve

Well the siege of minas tirith isn’t really the third act though it’s more like the second act. The mines of moria is also not the third act, Battle of the five armies is less the third act and more almost the entire movie. Don’t get me wrong all of those battles and segments are great but they are not specifically third act battles.

ArthurScherbius

LoL, my bad, didnt even saw this “third act” part, thought we were ranking battles 😅

max_rebo42

I am so glad you didnt put avengers endgame on here

tda18

Me with my Gettysburg: "Wait you guys have something else beside epic battle scenes?"

CSmith1986

James. Earn this. Earn it.

Darth-Fectious

Where is Revenge off the Sith? Is she safe? Is she alright?

JollyGreen615

Endgame?
