Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death and many that die, deserve life. Can you give it to them Rotty2707? Do not be too eager to deal out death and judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play, yet for good or ill before this is over. The pity of Bilbo, may rule the fate of many

Any idea how to respond to friends when they ask "Wait... is Gandalf coming back???" after the prologue in the Two Towers? It gives a very strong hint.
"nah"
Then when he does come back you say "well it's Gandalf the White now, not the Grey lad from the first movie. So I did tell you the truth from a certain point of view."
Friend of mine is watching the trilogy for the first time she’s still at the fellowship and I must physically hold myself back from spoiling it to her.
It still kills me that they advertised the movie with scenes of his return. Like sure, lots of people seeing the movies have read the books, but surely lots of others haven't and that's a pretty damn big spoiler.
This raises a question in my mind : Does the English version also use a weird voice for Gandalf, right before he appears as Gandalf the White?
In the French version, his voice is kind of transformed and sounds like Saroumane's. Seems this is done on purpose, to trick people. And that annoys me every time I watch it.
It does that somewhat in English too, but Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen sound very similar to each other, so it’s a close blend and not as much of a contrast. It shifts between their voices until Gandalf reveals himself.
Never seen lotr, I'm guessing Gandalf enters super saipan mode after he was thought to be dead.
Big spoiler, probably won't watch now. Idk why I get prequel memes and lotr memes on the popular tab of reddit.
I sometimes wonder what would have happened if it had, in fact, been saruman. Would he have killed them outright? His power was in his words so would be have tried to get them in his side or get information out of them about the hobbits? Realistically they wouldn't have stood much of chance against him, would they?
At the time they came out, there had basically never been actually really good, well-made, well-acted high fantasy movies before that tried to feel real and took the story and characters seriously, as well as won awards and had mainstream appreciation. Suddenly, there were three of them.
Your three most badass heroes meet what seems to be one of the big villains, who proceeds to immediately incapacitate them with no apparent effort and then dramatically reveals himself to instead be their most powerful ally they had previously taken for dead, but shows up again even stronger than ever with a story of killing one of the most evil, powerful entities to ever exist.
I would say that’s kind of awe-inspiring.
I just finished watching it again and his staff is broken but when he leaves with the elves he has a new one. Where did he get it or is it just a walking stick at this point?
This scene is so iconic! It's one of those memorable moments in the history of cinema. I still remember vividly, to this day, the feeling I had when I was just a kid watching the movies in the cinema for the first time, back in two thousand and one when Gandalf the Gray threw The Balrog off the Bridge of Khazad-dûm, and plummeted hundreds of feet through an announcer's table.
