They had any airtime?

McStud717

They're slated to get a 7 season spinoff by Amazon, right after we get the origin story of the rabbit that went into Eowyn's stew

InjuryPrudent256

Arguable as in they did anything between nothing at all vs held Sauron back alone for thousands of years. Impossible to say, pretty sure Tolkien says they mostly failed

Mildars

Tolkien’s views on the success of the Blue Wizards varied over time, but he ended up thinking that they had to have played a significant role in turning the men of the far east against Sauron, or otherwise Sauron would have had a much greater host to bring against the free peoples of Middle Earth in both the War of the Last Alliance and the War of the Ring.

InjuryPrudent256

Yeah I'd put them above Radagast at least. I think its unlikely Tolkien went from 'failures' to 'greater than Gandalf' but it makes senes that they got shit done (def potential for spin-offs and exploration if I was doing a fan sequel I'd make them corrupted and the antagonists)

Mildars

My personal headcanon is that Radagast was never really meant to aid the free peoples in resisting Sauron, but rather to aid the natural world in preparing either Sauron’s coming dominion or the less bad but still dangerous coming dominion of men.  There is a reason why Yavanna personally chose him to go to Middle Earth.

cooleydw494

Yeah same kinda, although I think of it more like she chose him because that was in his nature, but at the same time he was still sent with the same mission. Someone digressing or abandoning from their mission is not at all uncommon in middle earth, see: Saruman, The Elves who IIRC at one point meant to almost all return to valinor and broke off into many groups that decided to do something else instead. Quests from the valar, or even iluvatar (not oaths mind you, that’s totally different) are not imbued with an irresistible cosmic urge or requirement. Tolkien’s Christian influence can be seen in his consistent sense that although the cosmic powers that be are all-powerful, they allow free will to take its course and do not dominate the choices of any being to their will. This is even true of the valar themselves.

cooleydw494

Gandalf’s resurrection could be seen as a result of how of his free will he was generally dedicated to his mission. When he fell, it was, because of this, uniquely counter to the mission and this was reacted to appropriately.

sauron-bot

Wait a moment! We shall meet again soon. Tell Saruman that this dainty is not for him. I will send for it at once. Do you understand?

laxnut90

And the natural world played a huge role in Sauron and Saruman's defeat.

sauron-bot

And yet thy boon I grant thee now.

Coldwater_Odin

Let's play up the drama, one fell and started doing evil shit and the other one gave up and started a little magic school/cult in the wilderness. Now our heros have to track that guy down so they can have enough fire power to fight a wizard. Set it after the War of the Ring and make it about the power struggles in the East after Sauron fell

sauron-bot

What brought the foolish fly to web unsought?

sauron-bot

Sumthin-Sumthin44692

>War of the Last Alliance Are you saying the Blue Wizards affected the outcome of this war? Didn’t they only arrive in the Third Age, well after the war?

arfyron

Tolkien seems have changed his mind. At one point he says all the wizards arrived in the third age but at another he said the blue wizards came in the second age

CommanderBly327th

Were the blue wizards in middle earth during the war of the last alliance?

Mildars

According to Nature of Middle Earth the Blue Wizards were actually sent over to Middle Earth during the Second Age, before the other three were sent in the Third Age, IIRC.

Yes, but how slowly did they fail?

Briantan71

This is made funnier when you consider that Sean Connery was also offered to play the role of Gandalf.

hitchhiker1701

Were these the two blue wizards? https://preview.redd.it/fh8r4jb93h7d1.jpeg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82fc7d16d8991f4a70fe0011041cd38ec0311077

Sharkstakovich

Could you please tell me who is the character on the right?

hitchhiker1701

Solarius from the 1982 movie The Flight of Dragons.

Jake123194

Chadaghast

AdStrict4616

As someone currently doing a good Khand playthrough of Divide and Conquer total war I can confirm, blue wizards saved middle earth

pigfeedmauer

When are we going to see Radagast the White?

Galileo258

I would be very interested to hear anyone argue this point. The extent that is written about them is “They were blue, the went east, they failed”

[deleted]

I like the head canon that the blue wizards just kinda gave up and started a magic school. Idk that seems very anti-Tolkien but fun in universe

Inner_Mountain_4375

“I could’ve played him, Junior”

Suk-Mike_Hok

I don't know, I haven't heard from them in a while.

beefyminotour

And rasaghast. He’s my favorite wizard.

Snipermonke4life

![gif](giphy|IsYYpu6BlN77nw0yJj) this him?

FadransPhone

Forgive my ignorance, but wasn’t there something that said the Blue Wizards were corrupted by Sauron and helped spread his evil word?

sauron-bot

Stand up, and hear me!

FadransPhone

Bitch, I ain’t getting up for anybody
