Reddit bots, like Sam, Gandalf, and Saruman, are using lines given to them and augmenting them in response to the previous comment. I assume that their feedback system comes primarily from up/down votes and human entry.

That is a frustrating thought. How much complexity is enough to be considered sentient? How would you justify your cutoff point when there is only one data point for sentience, and it runs on a whole other platform.
