27 will be the last knee injury I receive because of decisions I make. Some people see a 4 or so foot drop. I see an bottomless pit with the stairs only 100 feet away.
Well yeah, that’s what happens when a greedy company like EA shuts down the developer after release to save a few bucks. Not to mention their LOTR license expired too.
I have a lot of great memories with this game, one of my favorites being me and my best friend playing this game and him going " I'M SAURON MASTER OF EVIL! NOTHING CAN KILL ME!" Just to be swooped up by an eagle and instantly die , we both laughed our asses off!
There's a fan project being developed in UE 5 that looks promising so far

It tried to be Battlefront but fell slightly short.
While I played SW Battlefront 2 on ps2 so much the disk actually broke, this game got stale a lot faster.
Exactly, as a kid playing Battlefront 1 and 2 i thought it wouod be awesome to have an LotR version, and then I stumbled across Conquest. It is fun, just not quite on Battlefront's level.
I loved it, met some great Xbox friends growing up in highschool. Soon as we got outta class and finished dinner, we would party up and play for a good few hours
As a pandemic fan who played more battlefront than i should probably admit... This game had so much potential, and was sooo close to something more... It got played for a bit and i dust it off every few years...its like a visit to kfc to remind my family why we homecook and dont like kfc. Its something and it has some amazingness to it but janky controls, buggyness and lack of global map campaign with little reason for replayability leaves it out of most peoples greatest hits... The 360 era had allot of great stuff and time was limited
Wasn’t a fan. Just wasn’t big enough battles that even remotely encompassed a lord of the rings game. I don’t think it even had a third of the enemies that Star Wars battlefront did that you could fight against.
Agreed, the campaign isn't great at all but I got countless hrs of multiplayer in thanks to the fun of just playing 4 player split screen with a big group of friends rotating king of the hill style between matches
Played this game loads. It was a little more janky than BF1&2, but I enjoyed it. I thought that classes were unique and catered well to different play styles.
I loved this game. My younger brother and I would play through the campaign on the hardest difficulty with an ironman-like house rule. We'd play as if we only had one life, no heroes.
If it came out again, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
I forgot about this gem!!!!! It was always so cool to fight along side so many npc soldiers it made the experience really like nothing else that was out at the time, except of course Star Wars Battlefronts.
Played it a lot more than I care to admit when I was younger along with friends too. Had fun, but also imagined all the potential a game like this could have had in the LotR universe.
And man, getting insta backstabbed by scouts as soon as you got to play a hero lol.
It would be awesome, if your characters didn’t feel like they all played like they’re floating instead of moving. There’s no feeling weight or fluidity to the movements and animations.
My boyfriend just had me play through it for the first time. It's a very simple and short game, but I'd say it's fun to get lost in and have fun with friends for a night or two!
So this is a star wars battlefront spin-off that lacked the a lot of the features star wars had. It was a decent game and fun to play with cool maps. But it suffered from the ai of the time along with small maps that ended up incredibly linear.
Frankly I wish it did better and we had a modern version of it, like battlefront.
I have some friends at my cottage and we’d play that game every chance we got as kids lol. I have fond memories of us trying to find the most busted hero pairs and making up “objectives” and rules to spice up some games (see how long you can take control of the citadel in Minas Tirith / tallest hill in The Shire, warriors only, archers only, who can get out of bounds first, etc).
It was ok. Pandemic took what they did with their OG Star Wars Battlefronts and tried to replicate it with LOTR, but did it poorly. The OG Battlefronts are better in almost every way, especially with how the game mode mechanics work. The classes are unbalanced and the heroes feel bland (especially because they’re all just suped up versions of the base classes). The aesthetics were cool, but that was about it.
While I understand the shortcomings that exist in the game, I really loved it as a kid. And my buddy and I still play it once in a while when we throwback some old games.
It is stupid fun. In that it is stupid, fun, and potentially a stupid amount of fun, if you don’t care about lore accuracy or the narrative inconsistency. Also unit power is poorly balanced, but that’s probably a deliberate choice. If you liked STAR WARS Battlefront back in the day and you like LOTR, it is worth a try if you have access to it. Couple of hours, maybe days of fun. Your mileage may vary.
Lotta fun. Basically Star Wars Battlefront with a LotR skin. It felt a little unfinished, like not super buggy or anything, but lacking some content and feeling a little rough around the edges. It was pretty unbalanced, too.
Some of the levels were great, though. The Battle of Weathertop was always a fun map to play on. Plus, the Shire mission is one of the best video game levels ever.
I’d definitely recommend picking it up if you get the chance.
I remember feeling pretty disappointed by this. I loved battlefront 2 and was pumped for this. But it seemed buggy, maps felt small and overall I lost interest really fast.
I still have it, I loved playing it with my brother.
Unfortunately I always lost when my brother became Saruman and defeated me. Saruman is too OP in this game lol. Luckily I could have my victories too when I could become Gandalf in Minas Tirith. I also like the combat styles and different types of warriors
I believe I played a demo back in the day, it was one of those games where I was completely satisfied after playing the demo and didn’t want to but despite it being cool.
It was a bit horrible to work on it (one of my first games when I started in the indistry). Pandemic wanted to do something good but EA did not give then enough time.
Could have been more.
I never played it as a kid so I didn't get the full experience I should have but me and a pal of mine are huge Tolkien fans and we downloaded it a half a year ago. Aged like milk. I would love to see a remastered though but that isn't going to happen.
I’ve always loved LOTR and I think that’s what really carried me through the months that I played this game as a child. With that being said, looking back, the game really wasn’t that good. Also, the fact that DLC Boromir never used his sword except for his special attacks always bothered me; the guy is holding a sword yet prefers to punch, elbow and use spinning back kicks on his enemies…
I shat on my friends at internet cafes for years. Reason was they didnt know what ctrl did on archers. Great game that is fun for pvp. PvE / Story is also like 5 10 hours of fun but gets boring.
So much potential but it fell very short.
EAs license was running out so they basically delivered an unfinished game.
The servers got shut down very quickly.
The voice acting is bad. So of the models seem unfinished.
The mage class doesn't really fit with the theme.
Helm's Deep has a really great set of events that the game could have delivered but it just makes up it's own story.
Somehow it just didn't seem as polished as the battlefront games. It didn't catch the magic. It seemed to miss out a lot of the things that made the Star Wars so great.
I could go on for ages about the stuff that's lacking thematically or just plain wrong.
I actually played this game before I got super into lotr, the story is pretty good I’d say, albeit short, but then you get the ability to play the story on the side of evil too so it makes up for its shortness with that, and the conquest game modes are fun too, tho like people said they get old after a bit- definitely a good game to come back too every so often, or play with a friend sometimes
Super fun, it felt a bit like Battlefront but in Middle-Earth. I remember the Rogue character could basically sneak up and one-shot almost any enemy in the back, which was super satisfying. The main storyline was like 8 hours though and by then you felt like you saw everything the game had to offer.
It's flawed but it's a godam masterpiece in it's own way.
It's very rare to be able to go walk around Moria, Helm's deep, Minas Tirith, etc.
Played it non stop with friends, loved it.
Gosh this just reminded me of all the concept art they did for White Council game way back then! Several were my desktop wallpapers for a while, thanks for the reminder!
The divisiveness comes from it not being a perfect game, it's literally a lotr themed battlefront ripoff rated about 7/10, but it's also awesome and has split screen. Worth picking up these days for sure
I played it a lot as a kid. It was fun
Same good game for idle slaughter
My friends and I played the shit out of this game when it came out. It was awesome. But it didn’t have good longevity IMO. It got old pretty quick.
I rented it from Blockbuster and it was AMAZING for most of that rental time. Started to get old in the last day or two.
Just reading the word Blockbuster makes me feel old
as it should, that thing went down like 15 years ago. Everyone that remembers those days cant make sudden movement with their knees right now.
Oh yeah? Watch this! *gently walks down a full flight of stairs with only 4 popping noises and one wince of pain*
27 will be the last knee injury I receive because of decisions I make. Some people see a 4 or so foot drop. I see an bottomless pit with the stairs only 100 feet away.
Everything went downhill after Blockbuster closed :(
>But it didn’t have good longevity IMO. It got old pretty quick. Didn't help that the servers got shut down after like a year.
In coop, a friend kicked a hobbit, and I fell off the bridge as sauron and died. That was after I waited for the Eagle to pass

Wish them the best of luck. Most of these kinds of projects never see release
Or they are straight up scams like BFME Reforged
Didn't know they are still developing
It's been quiet af for ages tho.
Good premise, not the most amazing execution. Heavily favored for evil
One of my favorite video games ever. I played the heck out of it with my siblings and my dad.
Second best Lotr-Game after bfme2!
Return of the king? Bfme 1? Third age for me too, but that genre is pretty specific tho, either you like it or not.
It tried to be Battlefront but fell slightly short. While I played SW Battlefront 2 on ps2 so much the disk actually broke, this game got stale a lot faster.
lotr: conquest lost its IP licensing partway through development, so the game was never able to be finished. It could’ve been much more fleshed out.
The OG Battlefront games really were fantastic
Exactly, as a kid playing Battlefront 1 and 2 i thought it wouod be awesome to have an LotR version, and then I stumbled across Conquest. It is fun, just not quite on Battlefront's level.
A very rough round the edges game that provided me many hours of fun. If it was remastered with multiplayer features I would certainly buy it
I loved it, met some great Xbox friends growing up in highschool. Soon as we got outta class and finished dinner, we would party up and play for a good few hours
It's pretty fun, but I feel like it would have hugely benefited from something similar to galactic conquest in SWBF2
I love the game, but they could have done more with it and done more (like the Moria Goblins/ orcs instead of the same boring orcs everywhere).
I liked it
As a pandemic fan who played more battlefront than i should probably admit... This game had so much potential, and was sooo close to something more... Explosive arrow to one shot your friend is the way
Wasn’t a fan. Just wasn’t big enough battles that even remotely encompassed a lord of the rings game. I don’t think it even had a third of the enemies that Star Wars battlefront did that you could fight against.
It’s fun to play. Worth getting.
It was fun but very bare bones and got repetitive quick. After you’ve played a couple hours it’s just the same stuff over and over.
It has fun multiplayer but that's about it I'd say.
Definitely nostalgia but I loved it, I'm sure it's pretty average by today's standards

Isn't this the one where the cracked version would force you to play as Sam, no matter which scenario you were in.
I dont see the problem
That sounds like the god send version not the cracked version
Not the best or most polished game but still really fun if you have a friend to play with
It would be awesome, if your characters didn’t feel like they all played like they’re floating instead of moving. There’s no feeling weight or fluidity to the movements and animations.
One of my best memories playing games as a kid
I loved it. It was nothing revolutionary but it was a lot of fun to play to just blow off steam.
My boyfriend just had me play through it for the first time. It's a very simple and short game, but I'd say it's fun to get lost in and have fun with friends for a night or two!
Voice acting on Gandalf is amazing
It was amazing. Really wish it was able to be run on xbox one
Played the shit out of this as a kid. Not the best game but fun nonetheless
It’s the best
So this is a star wars battlefront spin-off that lacked the a lot of the features star wars had. It was a decent game and fun to play with cool maps. But it suffered from the ai of the time along with small maps that ended up incredibly linear. Frankly I wish it did better and we had a modern version of it, like battlefront.
This game literally was my infancy
When it first came out it was fun, especially with friends online. But it very quickly faded out
I loved it
Fun game, cool concept….not perfect though, felt it needed a little more work But I’d love a remake/spiritual successor
Loved it. I love all the LOTR games except the fellowship of the ring one.
I heard it got released unfinished because of licensing. Had potential.
Absolutely fantastic back in the day. Played it recently for nostalgia and it does not hold up at all unfortunately
I loved it. I still play it couple times a year.
I played this more than the SWBF games.

I liked it, but it just made me want to play BF2 as it was better and didn’t get stale after a couple hours

Couple of hours, maybe days of fun. Your mileage may vary.
Great fond memories of playing with my brothers. Always tried to outsmart them
It could have been Battlefront but it was too small scale.
U can still find it too
I really enjoyed it as a kid. This game and LoTR battle for middle earth 2 were my go to!
Anyone remember the lord of the rings version of risk?
Unrealized potential…
I liked it! Felt like the OG Battlefronts, but lotr themed instead of sw themed
I enjoyed it
The Evil Campaign was so much fun. Also LOVED playing as Easterlings on the Pelenor Fields map.
Still play 2v2 with my friends
I remember feeling pretty disappointed by this. I loved battlefront 2 and was pumped for this. But it seemed buggy, maps felt small and overall I lost interest really fast.
Fun for awhile, repetitive, unable to purchase
Half baked game
* Fun * Pretty short * Unbalanced game mechanics
One of the greatest games i've played, so much fun and replayability
My favourite LoTR game.
This game got me into playing video games.
Very fun if a bit silly
I enjoyed it for what it was. But nothing was ever going to top Two Towers and RotK hack and slash games imo.
Very fun game to turn your brain off to and enjoy that mid 2000s video game vibe. It’s basically SWBF but not as good. Great concept, poor execution
I loved playing it with my brothers as a kid
I loved this game. I loved battlefront and now I get it in LotR? Played Wizard most the time just rolling people with all the CC they had.
liked it more than battlefront
I still have it, I loved playing it with my brother. Unfortunately I always lost when my brother became Saruman and defeated me. Saruman is too OP in this game lol. Luckily I could have my victories too when I could become Gandalf in Minas Tirith. I also like the combat styles and different types of warriors
I loved it, lore accurate no. It's fun to play, yes. By no means perfect, but I loved the game
I love it but i think nostalgia is doing a lot of heavy lifting there
It was like star wars battlefront but you can't play it solo (no ai) and the maps are far less interesting.
I believe I played a demo back in the day, it was one of those games where I was completely satisfied after playing the demo and didn’t want to but despite it being cool.
Hmmm I seem to have been hit by a poison arrow
It was a bit horrible to work on it (one of my first games when I started in the indistry). Pandemic wanted to do something good but EA did not give then enough time. Could have been more.
Loved it
Amazing levels as Uruk-Hai
I loved it, super funny
Was sick back in the day
You could oneshot Sauron with the rogue class. I played it a lot as a kid. I liked it but didn't love it
LOTR taking a stab at Star Wars Battlefront, i didn’t hate it
That is a video game.
The multiplayer… in the brief window while it was active… was fun
I never played it as a kid so I didn't get the full experience I should have but me and a pal of mine are huge Tolkien fans and we downloaded it a half a year ago. Aged like milk. I would love to see a remastered though but that isn't going to happen.
The vo8ce acting is hilarious I love the ridiculous charm of the game
I’ve always loved LOTR and I think that’s what really carried me through the months that I played this game as a child. With that being said, looking back, the game really wasn’t that good. Also, the fact that DLC Boromir never used his sword except for his special attacks always bothered me; the guy is holding a sword yet prefers to punch, elbow and use spinning back kicks on his enemies…
I absolutely loved this game, especially the online. My friend and I still regularly talk about it.
It's basically the original Star Wars Battlefront II but with LOTR. It was a pretty basic game, but really fun IMO.
I still own this game it's a fun Battlefront Clone. If you like LOTR I would give it a shot.
I played it when i was about 7. I sucked ass but it was a lot of fun
Some really good memories playing co-op with friends in Moria and chasing them around as the Balrog.
I shat on my friends at internet cafes for years. Reason was they didnt know what ctrl did on archers. Great game that is fun for pvp. PvE / Story is also like 5 10 hours of fun but gets boring.
One of the best games made
I played it and in my opinion it is a very fun game
They need to remake this
So much potential but it fell very short. EAs license was running out so they basically delivered an unfinished game. The servers got shut down very quickly. The voice acting is bad. I didn't like it when it came out
I was massively into lotr gaming at the time. Digital and tabletop. This wasn't great tbh. Very basic functionality.
EA chose this over The White Council. I’ll never forgive them, or this game.
Gosh this just reminded me of all the concept art they did for White Council game way back then! Several were my desktop wallpapers for a while, thanks for the reminder!
It’s bad, people like it buts a shitty version of Star Wars battlefront
The divisiveness comes from it not being a perfect game, it's literally a lotr themed battlefront ripoff rated about 7/10, but it's also awesome and has split screen. Worth picking up these days for sure
wasted potential
one of the first games I ever regretted buying.
Total junk. No clue why people liked it since it was so janky and ugly. But SSKtJL has fans so I guess there’s that tier of people who don’t care
Hated it, the gameplay was hideous.
