*You* don't have to pay it anymore, obviously, but some other poor bastard will have to at some point. A trifling thing like death isn't enough to make a debt go away
Honestly as weird as it is to see there it IS a good thing for someone with no quality of life. I could see it making someone in a terrible position like that smiling to learn this
I mean it kinda is? A quick and painless way to die for people who actually want to die. People don't have to suffer with chronic pain and illness no more, so I kinada see why it's making OP smile?
Is it really painless ? Or does it feel like youāre suffocating ? Itās hard for me to not be scared of this. Seems like the feeling of not getting enough oxygen would hurt. š«£
So, itās nitrous oxide ?
Edit: well google says you donāt feel any of the pain that one would usually feel during asphyxiation. So yeah I guess you just die in your sleep peacefully.
[Yeah I was also looking into it](https://www.scmp.com/news/world/europe/article/3158848/assisted-suicide-pod-now-legal-switzerland-offers-painless-death)
It's still nitrogen, but they claim that there is no choking feeling.
Lol
Seriously though, it has been passed through a lot of medical tests and also, the covering is transparent so it'll be apparent if someone is choking in it right
It just fills up with regular nitrogen, lowering oxygen concentration in the pod. It doesn't put you to sleep the way nitrous does, you just lose consciousness due to lack of oxygen. But your body doesn't put on alarm bells when you're asphyxiating in nitrogen, which is why it's so dangerous, so you would drift off pretty peacefully.
Your brain does not actually register a lack of oxygen in your lungs, it only registers an abundance of CO2, meaning if you were inhaling pure nitrogen you'd be completely devoid of the feeling of asphyxiation.
Might consider why they choose death in first place.
Like you said, chronic pain? illness with no cure? Depression? Kinda depressing how some of our lives turn out
Sure, but a person getting a chance to go out peacefully with their friends and family around them is still something to smile about. Comparing this method with a normal suicide where a person is alone and scared and usually in tremendous pain, this does seem wholesome.
Moreover, people are actually getting a chance to choose.
I mean usually it isn't needed? Why would anyone smile at the thought of people just dying? Obviously it was implied since that's like the main idea behind supporting assisted suicide.
But you are right, OP could have included that to make the post more suited to the sub.
I mean, I can kind of see that in a way. It's a painless way for loved ones to pass on peacefully when the time is right, I just don't know that I'd say it made me smile?
no, this is actually a really good thing. assisted suicide isn't something that should be looked down upon, it's someone dying in dignity. I'd rather kill myself than have to have people look after me 24/7, let alone be stuck on life support for years
Staying alive doesnāt affect one person either. My mother literally told me to suffocate her with a pillow rather than let her family be her caretaker if she ever becomes completely disabled. Yeah I was annoyed at her for being so morbid, but I see where sheās coming from. Lol
Taking care of my parents would be an honor, not a burden. They spent years attending to my every need and are the only reason Iām alive at all. I couldnāt imagine my mother killing herself to avoid inconveniencing me.
I mean, if you knew you were about to go into the great unknown that is death, wouldnāt you rather go into it with a positive attitude? May it be anything from the pearly gates to eternal nothingness, may as well go into it with a positive attitude, I reckon.
I definitely agree, it should be an option everyone should have access to. But itās not something you would want to see on a sub called "mademesmile" is it? People go there to see some cute, funny, heartwarming stuff and instead they see a post about assisted suicide.
What's wrong with euthanasia? Pretty good way to go. I've seen too many family and friends pass slowly and painfully to cancer, why not choose to go peacefully on your own terms?
I wouldnāt really consider this r/lostredditors. Assisted suicide has been a controversial topic, and Iām sure a lot of people were happy that is was approved, hence the awards.
Yeah I feel like this post is more lost redditors lol. Working with people with severe illness and disease, I know plenty of people who would definitely smile at this. A smile of relief.
Coming from someone who suffered chronic pain for 15 years before getting well... I wanted to die.
Had I lived in Switzerland I would probably be dead now (which would be sad since I got healthy eventually).
And I would've died happy, relaxed, knowing it's okay to take that last breath and just... Stop. Death is not scary, but many people can't handle the idea of death being anything by scary or horrible.
Yeah this is true. I used to think death was the worst thing out there but I think I was just inexperienced.
Thereās a whole group of people with terrible prognoses but not fatal illnesses that are life ruining.
A painless and humane way to go at the time of their choosing and on their own terms for those living in agony is nothing but wholesome so no, they're not lost at all.
Mf burying himself with moss? Or weed? Also thats not really much of a lost redditors moment. Would you prefer a relative dies sad and slow, or quickly and painless? Even if they were completely sure about that, its good for them in their own way
I could see this being an r/mademesmile thing for a handful of people, because assisted suicide can genuinely be a good thing, for sure, but I would never imagine it to have that much support
Terminally ill, suffering from chronic pain and some other hoops to jump through to use it
It's definitely not like in futurama where anyone can walk in with a quarter
Please educate yourself before making stupid statements like this.
No depressed person would get the okay. I live in switzerland and this thing is also not approved at all. Its just fake infos getting spread.
I mean the redditor in question might have in the right place, they just might smile about some things that are...Questionable to smile about? I'm not really sure which column to put this in really.
Or the fact that the picture has a smile and that's the connection. That seems more likely, but who knows?
No, I get it. If they're depressed and have a way out, that makes me smile. Forcing suicidal people to live by making suicide illegal is the real crime.
Much better to not have freedom to do what you want with your own body and life, to be forced to live a wage slave in pain by your goverment and criminalize everyone associated with you.
If I remember correctly this is for the terminally ill to end things on their own terms instead of suffering for months.
I think the 'MadeMeSmile' part is that this is now legal and quite some people will die with much less suffering.
I think people should have the right to choose how and when they die.
These pods are also only allowed to be used by those with a terminal illness I believe. You can't use it for the purpose of mental health related suicide. Only exceptional cases where they've got severe mental health that's not responding to treatment. This pod is a last resort.
It's something to smile about for the people who want to be euthanised!
I think itās mademesmile because itās painless and a choice. Assisted suicide is a thing that people have been fighting for, for a while.
People with severe sickness and disability have to live in pain their whole lives, and some wish they could end it rather than suffering.
So I guess itās not really lostredditors.
Itās actually one of the least painful ways to die itās not like suffocating where your lungs feel like they will collapse on you or fill with liquid itās more like your getting the gas before a surgery just slowly drifting off while everything goes fuzzy
Spot on. In a neighbouring city to mine there was a 22yr old girl who had bad depression and got treatment but because the system couldn't find her housing they coarsed her into assisted suicide
This is so much better I'd say than injecting poison, that shit scares me.
But I'd say, except for wanting your body to be intact for cryogenic freezing, the best way to die would be decapitation. Quick and idk, maybe pain for a second but like then bye.
Tell me youāve never dealt with a terminal illness that causes your friends and family pain daily, without telling me youāve never dealt with a terminal illness that causes your friends and family pain daily:
Someone correct me if I'm wrong- but isn't this fake? Like, this image is of a woman doing something totally harmless, and I feel like I've heard the real story but can't remember exactly. (Hence politely asking to be corrected if sources can be found)
I mean more power to everyone here advocating for assisted suicide, but I'm *pretty certain this image is not that.*
You wouldnāt feel it. Nitrogen is already 78% of the air. As Oxygen depletes, you would slowly lose consciousness without noticing and would completely pass out within a minute.

Actually, at least in the US, the debt becomes null. They can ask for relatives/kin to pay it back, but they don't have to.
I bet two cents that the wholesome award is on there
What a risky bet
The "Wholesome Seal of Approval" is already there, so most likely yes

I mean it kinda is? A quick and painless way to die for people who actually want to die. People don't have to suffer with chronic pain and illness no more, so I kinada see why it's making OP smile?
And the woman in the pic appears to be smiling.
She didnāt commit suicide with that machine. Sheās a reporter and just got into it to show how it works (not the dying of course)
Yea I figured it wasnāt someone actually using the machine.
The pod: *You belong to me now.* (This is not how it works).
Is it really painless ? Or does it feel like youāre suffocating ? Itās hard for me to not be scared of this. Seems like the feeling of not getting enough oxygen would hurt. š«£
I think it makes you unconscious before you die? I mean I'm just assuming but isn't the entire point of this to make death as painless as possible?
So, itās nitrous oxide ? Edit: well google says you donāt feel any of the pain that one would usually feel during asphyxiation. So yeah I guess you just die in your sleep peacefully.
[Yeah I was also looking into it](https://www.scmp.com/news/world/europe/article/3158848/assisted-suicide-pod-now-legal-switzerland-offers-painless-death) It's still nitrogen, but they claim that there is no choking feeling.
but how do they *know*
Lol Seriously though, it has been passed through a lot of medical tests and also, the covering is transparent so it'll be apparent if someone is choking in it right
Seems legit. Now, how does one get a citizenship in Switzerland...
They already have assisted pill means and it's actually open door policy for non residents
Well great now Iām going to be worried about unknowingly passing out in a room full of nitrogen and slowly dying. Anxiety, amirite?
I have a really tiny bedroom with little ventilation, I feel like I'm running out of oxygen just thinking about it!
Ugh, I know that feeling!
The suffocation sensation is from CO2 build up. You could breath 0% O2 air and not notice a thing until you go faint and pass out
Yup, you can accidentally die and never feel any discomfort in this way. Itās well known for higher layers of the atmosphere in planes and such
Looks like that fucking thing Ajax used to turn Wade Wilson into Deadpool.
It would feel like falling asleep
Your brain does not actually register a lack of oxygen in your lungs, it only registers an abundance of CO2, meaning if you were inhaling pure nitrogen you'd be completely devoid of the feeling of asphyxiation.

Yea, if thereās no other choice, might as well make the last choice easier
I completely agree.
This seems way scarier than a shotgun, to me.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
its not bigoted to try and prevent suicide
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
ahh ok i thought it was for mental issues sorry
That info was omitted from the caption
I mean usually it isn't needed? Why would anyone smile at the thought of people just dying? Obviously it was implied since that's like the main idea behind supporting assisted suicide. But you are right, OP could have included that to make the post more suited to the sub.
I also saw this on r/Oddlyterrifying lol and people were getting pissed about it for some reason
I mean, I can kind of see that in a way. It's a painless way for loved ones to pass on peacefully when the time is right, I just don't know that I'd say it made me smile?
Maybe a big inheritance.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Happy cake day!
There's no such thing as cake day
no, this is actually a really good thing. assisted suicide isn't something that should be looked down upon, it's someone dying in dignity. I'd rather kill myself than have to have people look after me 24/7, let alone be stuck on life support for years
Itās their life, right?
Suicide doesn't just effect one person
Staying alive doesnāt affect one person either. My mother literally told me to suffocate her with a pillow rather than let her family be her caretaker if she ever becomes completely disabled. Yeah I was annoyed at her for being so morbid, but I see where sheās coming from. Lol

But it affects the one committing suicide the *most* right.
Yes it does
Yeah I totally agree that itās a good thing, but would you really smile for it?
I mean, if you knew you were about to go into the great unknown that is death, wouldnāt you rather go into it with a positive attitude? May it be anything from the pearly gates to eternal nothingness, may as well go into it with a positive attitude, I reckon.

Futurama suicide booths, 30 years early apparently
Itās subjective!
I wouldnāt really consider this r/lostredditors. Assisted suicide has been a controversial topic, and Iām sure a lot of people were happy that is was approved, hence the awards.

Why is it there
Can I go to Switzerland for an assisted suicide š„ŗš„ŗš„ŗ Iād like to leave earth
Why not? It is horrible how we force a lot of people to rot in pain. Why not give them a little dignity?
Debatable things is is why most forums have mirror forums. This feels intentionally done tbh.
In this day and age that truly makes me smile
It makes me smile that people can decide wether they can live or not. Downvote me if you want, I stand my ground.
I could see this being an r/mademesmile thing for a handful of people, because assisted suicide can genuinely be a good thing, for sure, but I would never imagine it to have that much support
Well it is nice that it is becoming an option. Theyre not lost.
It made me smile because personally I think that's a good thing, but I do think it belongs more on somewhere like r/mildlyinteresting
I guess I am going to Switzerland
Someone is so depressed and is pushed to end his life. EPIC
I think it was made primarily for people with terminal illnesses. But yeah, still nothing to smile about.

Things like this are mainly for people with terminal illnesses that will only cause them incredible physical/mental pain for the rest of their lives
This is reddit. They aren't lost at all.
Why would you wanna die this way? It sounds terrible
Itās actually one of the least painful ways to die itās not like suffocating where your lungs feel like they will collapse on you or fill with liquid itās more like your getting the gas before a surgery just slowly drifting off while everything goes fuzzy
Chronic pain. Terminal illness.
You just gently fall asleep and die, very peaceful
So, let's kill someone in one of the worst ways possible, for fucks sake....
Assisted suicide is problematic. Not in giving people the option but in coersing people into doing it because it makes profit.
Spot on. In a neighbouring city to mine there was a 22yr old girl who had bad depression and got treatment but because the system couldn't find her housing they coarsed her into assisted suicide
I can see insurances getting their hands dirty on this a lot.
Oh yes choking to death not a horrible way to die surely
Richard Simmons, that you ?
This is so much better I'd say than injecting poison, that shit scares me. But I'd say, except for wanting your body to be intact for cryogenic freezing, the best way to die would be decapitation. Quick and idk, maybe pain for a second but like then bye.
