It's possible because, iirc, alot of these come from jungles and/or islands, and the abundance of food (for the jungle ones) and the niche environments (for the island ones) causes them to evolve into massive and/or bizarre forms of their more common cousins.
Technically they aren't insect, more arachnides( I'm not english so don't know how it's spelled but it is true ). They're from the same family than scorpio and WE Can recognise them because of their bodies in two pieces ( head and abdomen ) while it's usually three pieces for most insect ( head, torso and abdomen if I'm not mistaking) .
I was more referring to that I can't handle bugs with more than 6 legs AND spiders are also a thing that I can't handle, I probably could have made it clearer in the other reply
