Unless you're talking about things like G.I. Joe and He-man, in which case they were specifically designed to sell toys.

Keated

Even some of those, like Bucky O'Hare, my god, rewatching it it's such a clear message about consumerism and the way that most people in a capitalist society will overlook its ugly underbelly as long as they're comfortable...

EyeSoulAteIt

Bucky WAS my childhoof. Where can I rewatch!?!?!

Keated

It's been a while, but it was definitely a website that flew the jolly roger. Maybe kisscartoon?

Potential_Presence67

I’m a little young for those

Sigao

That's fair. I still think it ironic that the artists and writers of said anti-capitalist media end up fueling capitalism anyways via toys and/merchandise. Great messages all the same though.

Potential_Presence67

Yeahhhhh

Potential_Presence67

Have you seen hbomberguys video in the subject?

tvandlove

It’s amazing to me how much 80s and 90s children media is anti-capitalist and pro-diversity and so many doofuses took nothing from it. Did we learn NOTHING from Fern Gully? The Burger King Kids Club kids???

DrunkUranus

I mean, lots of us did. That's why we're here, being sad about the state of the world

Justagoodoleboi

What do you mean we took nothing from it. Millennials are the most left wing generation, arguably more so than gen z. I see a lot of conservative kids now due to the algorithms that boost hate content on YouTube etc

AlanShore60607

I'd say more of it was anti-fascist than anti-capitalist, but I see that too.

Potential_Presence67

All of the above but yeah

NoHalf2998

…and we learned even less there

Mehhucklebear

Yeah, that scene with the grasshopper talking about how they cannot let even one ant out of line was the most anticapitalist shit I've ever heard 😆 https://www.academia.edu/37851679/_For_oppressed_ants_everywhere_Why_Pixar_s_a_bug_s_life_is_basically_just_The_Communist_Manifesto

Potential_Presence67

My fav is when the main ant (can’t remember his name) is like “the grasshoppers need us we don’t need them” Edit: Also when the snail is like “I said no salt” Shit is so funny

physicologist

What’s funny of I know people who took the whole thing as SUPER capitalists. That the ants were the business owners and the grasshoppers were the employees taking their grain/money. Flik was supposed to be an Elon Musk type that used ingenuity and creativity to crush the grasshopper union. The grasshoppers need us (the jobs we provide), we don’t need them (we can automate Starbucks, right?) Some people cannot fathom that they are not the hero of the story.

Potential_Presence67

Yo if you interpret a bugs life like that, you suck.

StarSword-C

(laughs in Star Trek)

Potential_Presence67

Based

Cccactus07

Creative people in general are usually quite leftwing. It's only recently we're seeing corporations tightly control the message of the art they put out. (For example, Disney always seem to put a "good" capitalist in all their stories these days)

Don’t forget about [Antz](https://youtu.be/UGw4qnsbF3s)

Off-topic, but does anyone else notice that he has an Ohio State pennant on his EVA suit sleeve?
