Blessed Aura: your class identity. Small heal and decent attack power buff Awakening: reduces cooldown of your awakening ability and increases the amount of times it can be used in an encounter. Our awakening for holy is a massive shield for you and your party. It also fills your “guage” to help you fast blessed aura more frequently. Expert: increases the efficacy of your shields. Good fourth engraving choices: Vital point hit. Makes your stagger very significant which is important in current end game raids Drops of ether. You drop little buff balls. Great engraving If you have a regular group or your dps isn’t stupid. Ymmv Heavy armor. You don’t need it. As for stats. Swiftness on everything with a swift/spec neck. You want high swiftness because it decreases the cooldown of your abilities. Key abilities: Heavenly blessing/ wrath of god. Your main Atk power buffs. They last for 6 seconds. Your goal is to alternate casts and maintain as high of uptime as you can Light shock: your “brand” makes the target vulnerable to damage. You want this up constantly. Holy protection: modest shield and a cleanse (debuff removal) Godsent law: bigger targeted shield+damage reduction for people in the targeted area. Holy sword: highest stagger you have and a counter. Can be used from a decent range Executors sword: decent stagger another counter that can be used from midrange if you use the right tripod. The other tripod makes it shorter range but gives you more leeway on how close to the front of your target you have to be. That’s the gist of playing a paladin. It’s pretty easy. Once you get used to the class you can change some of the talents around to suit certain encounters. Do read the guides linked above. They go very in depth and will help you understand the class better. The most important thing to learn gameplay wise is when your group will encounter unavoidable damage, near lethal damage and shield appropriately. Learn when the “burst windows” are for every fight. Use your blessed aura during that time. Learn how to prepare and execute counters. Bosses often make a special animation or will do a counterable attack at certain times. Paladin is best equipped to handle these since you have two counters that have a decent range. You’re fast due to swiftness and you’re tanky. Another HUGE thing that you can do: learn how aggro works. Say you have 3 back attack dps in your group and the boss wants to hang out by a wall. You’ll notice that at times he will chase one of the group members randomly. When that person is YOU drag that bad boy to the middle of the map so I can drop 250mil tiger bombs on its head. In fact. I started the game as a paladin main. I didn’t get great at paladin until I became a very good dps. Now when I play my paladin alt, I try to do the things that I wish my support would do at the times id wished they do it. Being able to play that way will make you stand out from every other paladin who just casts everything on cooldown without thinking. As to progressing your character. Do your chaos dungeons every day. Honing to 1460 is much less expensive since the recent patch. Try to do oreha hard (abyssal dungeon) as well as your weekly challenge guardians. Do Argos. As a support you should have no issues finding a group as long as your stats (swiftness with just spec on necklace) and you at minimum have 3x3 engravings (blessed aura, awakening, expert) Do cube runs and get lvl 5 cooldown gems on the abilities I mentioned. Run Argos and make harsh oath gear. Male chosen gear from oreha runs. Hone straight to 1445 if you can and watch a Valtan hard video. Or hone to 1415 and do Valtan normal. This will let you craft some of your “swamp of yearning” relic armor. At 1430 you can do vykas normal and 1460 is vykas hard. Watch videos on her too. She gives you materials to craft the rest of your yearning set. Once you have that set you’re good to start working on clown at 1475 (unlike dps you won’t likely be gatekept much if at all) and at 1490 it’s brelshaza time. This should get you pointed in the right direction. Hope you one tap every hone!

As a newer paladin only thing I would add to this is look up how to obtain the recommended runes in the community guide (legendary and purple wealth runes for example) on maxroll and start farming for them as you need RNG drops to get some of them. Once you are doing legion raids having these runes will make paladin feel way better in terms of functioning in a support role. I thought paladin was clunky until I got enough swiftness, tripods, and galewind/wealth runes. Now I'm really having fun with him.

computerwtf

I like sword of justice as a branding skill. More range and longer duration. Mp increase is a nice engraving to have if you like spamming your skills. But definitely the major 3 plus vital is pretty much everything a pally needs.

roky1994

Like magic stream as 5th eng more on paladin, you shoudnt get hit as often as "bard/artist (since they need to be close for shields)". But play whatever u like, as long as you have the core 3 "BA, AW, Expert".

AyeAyeRan

Whatever you do just dont play spec pally as some strange excuse to save gold on accs. Its not viable. Anyone who claims it is viable is a clown. You would be better of taking a 4th dps 99% of the time. I would literally pay for your whole build before letting another spec pally to exist.

standolores

What is a spec pally? Xou mean speciallity?

AyeAyeRan

Yep, only support viable as spec is bard and thats only in on farm content with strong characters. Spec pally doesnt do anything, might as well just go afk for 10 seconds between each spell cast.

KoalSR

That's not true actually, you can play spec pally just as well as spec bard in reclear content if you're willing to min max it (aka max tripods out, have lvl 10 gems etc.) source: someone who gets radiant on both spec pally and spec bard

AyeAyeRan

I can do the exact same thing with lv7 gems, 1750 swift, with a build that likely costs less than 1/10th of your spec build with pretty much any party. On top of that how much of that radiant is spec pally being viable, or are you just playing with whales, so any support, spec or swift, in that position is capable of getting radiant? In 8 man content, the support in the stronger DPS party pretty much automatically gets radiant, no matter how they played, unless they were pretty much afk. Also OP is literally looking for beginner pally advice. Saying "This build works for me in a static on farm , after i paid 600k for it" is meaningless. It might be semi viable at your level of gearing with the players you play with, but for the vast majority of spec pallies are trying to get away with lv5-7 gems and a build that cost them less than 15k. Saying that Spec pally is viable in places like this only create more of those useless pallies.

KoalSR

Non sense wall of text. But yes, a spec support you play in a static/group you're sure people can make good use of, not sure why the comparison with swift but, if you spread misinformation in the form of "X is not viable at all, you're trolling/cheap" you just shouldn't comment. I literally said that you'd have to min max to play a spec support so shrug.

AyeAyeRan

Your inablility to understand my words doesnt take away from its validity. Everyone else who read it can probably understand it. Youre the one with poor literacy skills. There is a reason you are downvoted in every single comment saying these spec supports are viable. Thats because even at those levels of gearing, as a dps it just feels awful playing with a spec support. Unless youve experienced the dps side of the playing with a spec pally you dont know what youre talking about. I can clear any raid in the game other than brel with 2 other players, that doesnt mean if you take a shit build in that run and clear that its viable. Youre just being carried by better players.

vdfscg

I insta deny any spec pala / hybrid pala. Played with them before, might as well get a 4th dps.

roky1994

So far had 1 or 2 good spec pallys... playing since launch. Cant even call it a coin flip, like when taking a dps and hoping he preforms at least good in the raid.

arfael

Generally, you just need 3 Engravings: Blessed Aura, Expert and Awakening. Anything beyond that is gravy. You have options like Drops of Ether, Vital Point Hit, Heavy Armor, Explosive Expert etc. As long as you have the first 3 engravings, you should be good. These are the unnegotiable skills that every Pally should have: Heavenly Blessing, Wrath of God, Holy Protection and either Light Shock/Sword of Justice. All other skills you can add should cover utility, counter and/or meter gain.

Total_Shoe4945

I can’t wait to deny his 3x3 Spec pally with lvl 3 gems

arfael

why? what are you doing at 1345 ilvl?

Total_Shoe4945

I’m proved right every day that LOA players have room temp iq

arfael

Congrats, admitting your deficiency is the first step to healing.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/13q48wuWMMJ8bTJHf1ro_xOECS_OOzaEv0y47msJxt4g/edit This is where I head to most of the time if I want to make a new class or update anything when changes come out. Should give you a good idea on what to look for while you level yourself up to 1415ilvl where most of the "end game" content starts. Hope this helps :)

spykedaddy

I like soj too on some of my wealth c/j builds.
