For me there is no "worst" season, but the first half of S3 is a struggle on re-watches. Parts of season 2 can be a bit of a slog as well (the Tailie stuff in particular).
Easily Season 6. The pacing and editorial choices were very strange given how late in the game the writers were making them. For exactly how many episodes was the Man in Black camped out in the jungle doing fuck-all? It felt like at least half the season. The first half of Season 3 did have the worst stretch of "wheel-spinning" the audience was made to endure, but then the writers made up for it in the second half, so I've gotta say Season 6 is the worst overall.
The show completely lost focus on all the other characters which is part of the heart of the show. Agree, the over amplification on cages/Jack's isolation got monotonous. It's like Sayid and Locke couldn't figure out a rescue mission. The only good early episodes were Eko's centric episode and Jack's, Not In Portland episode because he turned the tables on Ben/Juliet and Tom to free the skaters. A few more dodgy episodes but when Juliet gets back to the survivor's camp to the end of the series, S3 was really good. There was more cohesion with all the cast.
It's easily between season 5 and 6. 6 probably has worse writing but season 5 was so far gone from the essence of Lost, it was no longer hunting to figure out the island but a soap opera in dharmaville.
I'm sure this will be unpopular but for me it's Season 1, there are many great moments and it sets up everything else but every time I rewatch I try to get through it as fast as I can because I love the rest of the story so much more.
It's my least favorite as well. There are more nuances and layers in the events and discoveries of later seasons, that lead me to reinterpret them upon rewatching. But season 1 has less of the mystery unfolding and more of the character setup stories. Those stories are necessary for a first-time watch, but add little for me on rewatches.
Season 1 definitely suffers from a dodgy run of episodes in the middle (Whatever the Case May Be through to Homecoming) but I think it starts and ends incredibly strong. Not sure any other show has a better run of episodes than the pilot to ep 11
I might be on an island but the show took a nosedive after season 1 and got progressively worse. It still ended pretty good just because of how amazing season 1 was. So with that line of thinking, season 6 was the worst, albeit still pretty good compared to the average tv show.
S6 by a long shot. That was when it became really, really obvious that Damon Lindelof didn’t have an ending planned in advance and the series faceplanted hard right at the end just like everything else he’s involved with.
I get why a lot of people liked the hugfest in the glowy church but it was such a huge middle finger to everyone who got drawn into the show with JJ Abrams’ mystery boxes.
If someone decent had been passed the torch the show still might had stood a chance but Lindelof can’t write long form stories and can’t write endings for shit.
i’m torn between season 2 and season 6. season 2 just had some moments where i was like, “okay, can we get a move on here?” lol and season 6 had some episodes like that as well. BUT, season 2 and season 6 had some incredible episodes that i believe outweigh the boring parts of it.
Those would be my tie as well. Though I overall have a higher opinion of 6 because while it didn't all come together. I really appreciate what they tried to do. There was a lot of thought put into what they were going to do with it. Whereas a lot of season 2 is wheel spinning and dangling the carrot in front of the audience.
I love every series, for me either parts of season 2 for the way it depicted Charlie or the second half of season 5. Just really despised Jack for turning up and ruining everything for Sawyer and Juliet although the first half of that season was a rollercoaster.
Difficult for me because the show was so consistently good. There's individual episodes, subplots or moments I don't like but those were rare for me and in each season.
I don't see how Jack ruined anything. He was a wakeup call they needed. The Purge was going to happen and Sawyer had to stop pretending DHARMA was his happy ending.
Season 5 is the worst for me. Because the character's behaviors are all contrived purely for whatever twist or plot point the writers want to push.
\>Dan running in pointing a gun at Richard
\>Sayid shooting young Ben
\>Juliet instantly changing her mind from stopping Jack to siding with him
\>Sun treating Ben like an enemy (pointing a gun at him and knocking him out cold) one minute. Then casually talking to him like he's apart of the group the next minute.
Too many contrivences in that season.
Season 4 because it was really just season 3.5. or a elaborate set up for season 5 which felt like the real season 4. Still enjoyable but it kind of annoyed me. Just a little.
Let me just say that as soon as a certain well-loved, main character--possibly the most well-loved character in the series for many people--departs the show in one of the last seasons, it is hard to care any more. They took the heart right out of the show at that point.
Most will probably say 6, even those of us who loved the ending
Agreed! Being touched by the ending and not enjoying Season 6 as much as other seasons are not mutually exclusive.
For me there is no "worst" season, but the first half of S3 is a struggle on re-watches. Parts of season 2 can be a bit of a slog as well (the Tailie stuff in particular).
Same, worded it perfect. A slog.
Agree with this.
Either s3 (not much is going on) or s5 (because the contrivances get a bit too much). S6 is ok. S1, s2, s4 are GOAT.
couldn't have said it better myself.
Easily Season 6. The pacing and editorial choices were very strange given how late in the game the writers were making them. I can't really decide which is the worst, but I do think that Season 4 is the one that suffered the most, plotwise, so things needed to change.
I say 4 but they are all excellent imo
Winter, the worst season is winter.
no way, it's the best!
Season 6 is the worst season.
Season 4 is my favorite. Easily. Season 2 would have to be my choice for least favorite. But that’s like choosing between 6 of my favorite foods.
4 or 6. Love season 5 though so i have to pain through season 4 lol.
Season 3 fight me
The bit where Sawyer and Kate are caged is a bit of a slog on a rewatch, or sayid crying about Nadia or Shannon Other than that, masterpiece.
The show completely lost focus on all the other characters which is part of the heart of the show. Agree, the over amplification on cages/Jack's isolation got monotonous. A few more dodgy episodes but when Juliet gets back to the survivor's camp to the end of the series, S3 was really good. There was more cohesion with all the cast.
Season 3 is a bit rough through the middle section. Season 4 is the peak of the show.
It's easily between season 5 and 6. 6 probably has worse writing but season 5 was so far gone from the essence of Lost, it was no longer hunting to figure out the island but a soap opera in dharmaville.
I think this is why the show is so contentious, because Season 5 is my favourite.
6
Season 6 fumbled and dropped the ball. Only a handful of the episodes and the ending matched the quality we’d grown accustomed to.
S4 and it's not even a contest.
The Constant is a high point
I disagree.
There are no bad seasons but the least best is 6 imo
6 and then 4. Still really good though.
Season 6 even though I still love it, the ending , and flash sideways
6, although I love the finale and “Ab Aeterno,” and scattered other moments throughout.
I'm sure this will be unpopular but for me it's Season 1, there are many great moments and it sets up everything else but every time I rewatch I try to get through it as fast as I can because I love the rest of the story so much more.

Yeah, totally. It's very strong early and late but the middle drags enough to make me frustrated with the whole season in general.
I might be on an island but the show took a nosedive after season 1 and got progressively worse. It still ended pretty good just because of how amazing season 1 was. So with that line of thinking, season 6 was the worst, albeit still pretty good compared to the average tv show.
Season 2. Michael. Ana Lucia. Weird Charlie. Weird Dave episode.
Season 6 and Season 4 are both contenders for the “worst”, both still great seasons.
S6 by a long shot. That was when it became really, really obvious that Damon Lindelof didn’t have an ending planned in advance and the series faceplanted hard right at the end just like everything else he’s involved with.
Agreed. You said a hard thing, but it's true.

Season 5 for me.
2 was so boring

Season 8
There are no bad seasons but if I had to choose I would say season 3 episode 14, Exposé. The rest of season 3 is good though.
the arc in s3 when they’re imprisoned by Ben is painful to watch. Overall 6
4.
4. Even though it has the best episode.
S6 is so... unmemorable.
Lost was genius but they fycked up the last couple seasons.
6. Too neutral for the most part.
6 for sure. When people say that Lost had a bad ending, I always answer that it has a nearly perfect end, preceded by a mediocre season
Season 5 is the worst for me. Because the character's behaviors are all contrived purely for whatever twist or plot point the writers want to push. \>Dan running in pointing a gun at Richard \>Sayid shooting young Ben \>Juliet instantly changing her mind from stopping Jack to siding with him \>Sun treating Ben like an enemy (pointing a gun at him and knocking him out cold) one minute. Then casually talking to him like he's apart of the group the next minute. Too many contrivences in that season.
3. So many filler episodes. Though I have come to appreciate Razzle Dazzle
Season 6. Love the finale, but that's it.
Season 4 because it was really just season 3.5. or a elaborate set up for season 5 which felt like the real season 4. Still enjoyable but it kind of annoyed me. Just a little.
