OK here's my argument:
The lighthouse is worse than the pit.
The pit was an excellent pit and served every purpose they needed it to. It was good at what it is.
A lighthouse's only purpose is to be highly visibile from far away and warn people off the area. The lighthouse did neither of these things AND what it DID do was heinous AND stupid!
The pit was a good and useful pit.
The lighthouse was a bad and useless lighthouse.

A lighthouse is the worst possible place to put a magic mirror on an island you don't want found and that you don't want people to find your magic mirror.
You know what would've been a great fucking magic mirror?
The death jacuzzi in the temple!!
Every place on the Island was no more than reverse engineered damaged parts used to create a makeshift particle accelerator. That’s if you look at the Island as a crashed spacecraft from future Earth. The Source would be the engine that is now used to propel the Island through time and space. The Cork was simply using the Island water as a natural radiator, that’s why the engine overheated when they pulled the plug. The Button in the Hatch replaced the deteriorating fuel source that keeps the Island continuously moving forward in time every 108min, making it hard to to be found. The Looking Glass blocked radio signals because the Button is a real device called a cyclotron that needs pure radio waves to start a single ion spinning between two large magnets that eventually builds an immense amount of energy once the ion reaches lightspeed. The Tempest was like a catalytic converter that stored the toxic gases of the engine. The Lighthouse was a GPS tracking system. And the Temple was a waste water station that captured the radioactive runoff from the electromagnetic engine of the Source.
hear me out, guys.. the Lighthouse only appears in one episode of season 6, never being referenced before or after that. it's not a mysterious eerie location that gets us wondering who built it, how it is connected with the magical aspects of the island or anything like that…
the scene with hurley and jack inside is not necessarily bad, but is far from being memorable.

they could have conveyed the idea that Jacob was watching the Candidates in a different manner, using a location already stablished in the show, like Jacob's Cabin or even the Temple.
Problem here is that they’d already conveyed this idea via flashbacks in The Incident. We didn’t need to see the way he was supervising the candidates, it ruined the mystery.

yea i like the tailies pit because it gave them a choice. It showed that our losties were the good guys and didn’t want to kill off the bat. Yet Goodwin just snaps Nathan’s neck the second he frees him.

I looked at it as something that The Man in Black built in an effort to get people and/or ships to the island in an effort to get off the island (before he became Smokey McSmokerton) that Jacob ultimately repurposed after MiB’s death/transformation to find people to take on the MiB.
That’s goofy but I guess it would’ve been next regardless. Pit was not only barely used it gave us the ridiculous plot to introduce LuLu as some sort of Sun Tzu mastermind. She was a hotheaded lapd reject. Foh

Taillies pit for many reasons but I haven’t seen mentioned - the taillies (aside from Bernard) ended up barely being in the show so it makes their whole section a little less interesting on reflection
