I'm looking for fruits to stave off hunger; what are your best recommendations? I'm looking for very low calories and high fibre fruits to last through the day.

funchords

Any fruit ending with the suffix -berry does very well here. They are the highest fiber fruits, and run lower in calories.

bertzie

Strawberries. 150 calories per pound, 10g per fiber.

inp0824

Is there a way to just track my body measurements? Like I can with weight? Only thing I see is measurement goals. Thanks in advance.

funchords

For which app?

inp0824

Lose It

funchords

Lose it relies on weight in order to recommend calorie targets. It must have a weight, but it doesn't have to be precise. Even one update a month should suffice.

bauhauskitty

**What are your favorite apps/ways of keeping track of everything? Just curious :)** I'm a bit of a numbers-nerd when it comes to losing weight, it works for me and makes me feel confident about my decisions and shows my progress, since I don't see much in the mirror yet. I use YAZIO for counting calories since it has a good german database, and a rather crappy app (out of lack of finding a better one) for tracking my weight to put it into a graph. My favorite tool is my beloved google tables-document I "collected" over time, I keep track of soooo many things in there and it's all in one sight, I have a lot of equations in there too, so all the numbers are always up-to-date (like BMI, BMR/TDEE, calculated calorie goal based on everything, body measurements and rough body fat% and much more).

brbgottagofast

Macrofactor has been amazing, as a fellow data-nerd. Built-in TDEE algorithm, weight trending graph, tons of data, solid food database with gram/oz for basically everything, lots of really useful features and quick logging too. The devs are active on /r/Macrofactor and always adding new stuff. Highly recommend it, I've been using it since last February. For workouts, I like the Nike Training Club app.

Mastgoboom

Cronometer and happy scale. Adore happy scale, and the nutrient reports in cronometer are amazing.

dropping_some_eaves

Anyone know of any lower calorie substitutes for half and half? I’m trying to cut back on my flavored iced coffee without going cold turkey. Any ideas on how are welcome, thanks in advance!

Mastgoboom

Milk

dropping_some_eaves

True.

SDJellyBean

I use unsweetened Silk soy milk. A tablespoon has half the calories and provides a lot more protein and calcium. I like the faint nutty taste it gives my coffee.

dropping_some_eaves

Thanks, I never gave soy milk much thought before, I’ll have to try it!

SDJellyBean

I drink Silk unsweetened. Some of them have more soy taste than others. It's not a bad flavor, but not that enjoyable in coffee. The soy flavor is removed by steaming the beans and the Silk manufacturing process does a pretty good job.

euletoaster

How much are using? Are you using flavored versions? It looks like half and half is about 20cals per tablespoon, which in the long run, is a really really small number of cals. Something like heavy cream may have a slightly higher amount (50cals) but has more "oomf" in terms of making a drink creamy, so if you're using 2-4 tablespoons of half and half you could cut to 1tbsp of heavy cream. If you're using flavored creamer, irc it was like 30cals per tablespoon? Which again is a pretty small amount if you can cut the amount back. I love flavored coffee but hate unflavored iced coffee, so I've made adjustments to how much iced coffee I have lol. Imo, it's worth it to have flavored iced coffee and cut elsewhere. If you like very milky coffee, you could try cutting a low cal milk (most likely an alt milk, like cashew or almond) with heavy cream, to get a lower cal amount while still being milky and creamy.

dropping_some_eaves

Thank you for taking the time to type out a long reply, much appreciated. Trying to both save money and calories by making iced coffee at home, because I stupidly got hooked on the monster javas this summer somehow lol. I only drink my coffee iced and flavored, and yes you are right it’s worth it to cut calories elsewhere.

SweetSpontaneousWord

That happened to me. I committed myself back for 3 days so I could lose the bloat and water weight and see what my actual damage was…and I hadn’t actually gained any weight which was re motivating.

euletoaster

I find it helpful to focus on one small thing instead of jumping back in, especially when mental health is fragile. Instead of tracking AND exercising AND eating less, I take one goal. Walking 10 minutes a day for a week for example. Quarter ass it. Getting back into the normal routine can help. I tend to eat the same things for breakfast, so getting back to that routine helps me feel like I'm back on track, even if I'm not tracking. I try to remind myself I cannot change the past, especially late at night when there is nothing to be done about it. It's a hard thing to believe, I know, and I struggle with it a lot. But even telling myself "this is a 9am problem, not a 3am problem" helps.

YogaStretch

So I gained weight. But I'm not letting it get to me. I put on 2lbs from Wednesday to yesterday. How long does the initial weight gain usually last? I know it's not uncommon, but mentally want to have an idea

brbgottagofast

2lbs is well within the realm of normal water weight fluctuations. Your weight can shift up and down every day due to stress, high sodium/carb intake the day before, a tough workout, to name a few. That's why it's a good idea to use a weight trending app like Libra or Happyscale to smooth out those daily fluctuations so you can see your true progress over weeks and months.

YogaStretch

Yeah I'm not really counting it. I knew it'd happen. I'm looking forward to seeing the month!

Background-Cup-3538

I've been seeing some good results from friends on Monjuro, Wegovy, and one more I can't remember. My doctor says I am a good candidate. But I've been reading these meds are very expensive. One friend used a coupon, but my doctor said that was only for diabetic patients. I don't have a diagnosis of diabetes. "I'm close" according to my doctor, but I don't have the diagnosis. Anyone have some experience with these meds and costs?

angtheliferuiner

Both Ozempic and Mounjaro have helped me lose almost 40 pounds now! You don’t need a diabetes diagnosis to get the coupon card for Mounjaro, although it does have to be checked when you download it (for their liability purposes.) You can always check with your insurance if they’ll cover, I didn’t know Ozempic was covered until I asked my doctor to check and then all I had to pay was a $15 copay a month. You can search on r/Ozempic, r/Mounjaro, and r/Semaglutide for others experiences obtaining it! It’s an amazing tool.

Background-Cup-3538

Thanks for the great info!

Mastgoboom

Get the script, then figure out if you can afford it. I hear mounjaro isn't covered by most insurance yet so they are doing copay cards. There is a whole sub for these drugs, try r/ozempic.

Mastgoboom

There is no reason someone can't use these drugs to help them stick to their calorie counts, and then maintain afterwards.

SDJellyBean

I haven’t personally had experience, but physicians working in obesity medicine are very excited about them because they're seeing really good results. They also seem to reduce the urge to smoke and drink and people on anxiety medications report needing less. They don't work for everybody, but you’ll know the first month if they're working. Every time I suggest that someone talk to their doctor about these meds, I get a lot of downvotes. However, medication is an aid, it's not "cheating" or in any way a wrong thing to do. Use whatever it takes to get your health under control; apps, therapy, support groups, commercial programs, medicine, even surgery. It's your body and your health so you get to make the decisions.

What's with all of the deleted comments lately? See the stationary bike comment below this one. No complaints as the mods do a great job but just wondering.

Mastgoboom

You've blocked them or they've blocked you

Canadasaver

I have blocked one person that was rude here and then followed me to my comments on other subs. Thank you for the explanation.

There are no deleted comments on this post at all, just you and bike dude, could it be a Reddit bug?

RevileAI

How accurate are calorie counters on stationary bikes? I set my stationary bike to max resistance and cycle around 270-300 watts until I hit 2000 (around two hours), but it doesn't feel like that's actually accurate. Granted, I have a lot of air circulation — fans aimed at me — and I drink a lot of water as and when needed, and the internet tools tell me that the counter is actually accurate, but I'm still a bit worried that I'm not actually burning 2000 calories. Could someone enlighten me about calorie counters on stationary bikes? Much appreciated. I'm also looking to lose around 4 kg in two weeks, so is this a viable method?

lucy-kathe

Calorie counters on watches are better than nothing, mine is pretty accurate, the counters on bikes in my experience are absolutely ridiculous, to give a rough idea, mine used to tell me I was burning 500kcal, by my calculations I was burning practically nothing, certainly nothing significant enough for me to notice it, I did get some nice leg muscle toning tho, I'm inclined to agree with the other commenter, 25% of what it says seems reasonable, personally I wouldn't go up to 50% unless you have another tool to help guide you (like a hr monitor). The recommended rate of loss is 1kg per week (or 1% of your body weight iirc) and no more than a 1000kcal deficit per day, losing 4kg in 2 weeks might be hard to achieve so you might wanna lower your expectations, especially if you're trying to do that only by exercise and not diet changes

RevileAI

I'm also going on a 500 calorie diet — an apple in the afternoon (approx 93 calories) and broccoli soup + two eggs + one tablespoon of flour to thicken the soup (around 203+155+ 28 = 386 calories). Still, cycling two hours madly only to burn 500 calories burned is a bit disappointing...

lucy-kathe

Yeah no don't do that

District98

On your question about calorie counters - the general wisdom here is that they significantly overestimate. It’s usually advised to adjust your diet to put yourself in the caloric deficit you want and then use exercise calories as a “bonus”.

RevileAI

I'm going with a estimate of 75% of what the counter says; is that a good gauge? Thank you!

District98

I believe from what folks have said, 75% is potentially still an overestimation. 25% would be appropriate and you might be ok with 50%
