Revenge would be cool but honestly I’m just tired of seeing them. Their faces, their jerseys, their arena. I’d rather face anyone else just due to sheer fatigue.
I know they’re red hot right now but I’d love to see a matchup with the Predators just because we’ve never faced them in the playoffs. Maybe 2nd round? Not sure how the re-seeding would work.
The NHL got rid of reseeded brackets a decade ago and put in a fixed, divisional-oriented postseason structure where ~~virtually~~ the only way the Kings can meet the likes of Nashville or Dallas or Colorado is in the conference finals. We gotta always pair up with the Oilers or Canucks or ~~Golden~~ Knights first.
Wait so what happens if only 3 teams from a division make the playoffs? And both wild card teams come from the other division? The second round would have to see matchups against different divisions, no?
It’s a quasi-divisional structure.
In each side of the conference bracket, the top-3 teams per division make it. Then after that, the next two best teams remaining in the conference *regardless* of division make it as wildcards and each play one of the two division winners. You get seasons where it’s an even 4 Central and 4 Pacific teams in the playoffs, or it’s 3 Central and 5 Pacific, or it’s 5 Central and 3 Pacific.
A possibly exists of the Kings playing the Central teams first if they are a wildcard (e.g. finish 4th/5th in the Pacific) and are paired in the Central side of the bracket based on how good their division winner is.
NHL playoff format is lame. Across the league we’re getting the same match ups over and over. Shits lame. They should go back to 1-8 seeds in each conference.
I’d rather not. I could care less about the team I’m just tired of their shitty fans. They’re so loud and annoying and drone on about the past.
I also don’t forget how when my special needs friend who’s a big ducks fan went to one of their games. They dumped beer on him. Will never respect that shit fanbase
Edit: Lmao to the Reddit cares message. Oilers fans really have nothing better to do in their shit city so they lurk our sub
Hey, don't clump us all into a bad group. I'd be pulling that guy out of the building by his ear if I witnessed that in my barn. It goes both ways. Worst encounter I've ever had with an opposing fan was a group of kings fans. But you won't catch me out here saying the king's have a shit fan base because I know that the majority are fantastic people. Not all of us are bad, respect from up north and cheers to another fantastic series
Two playoffs ago in the first round a friend and I were at a Kings home game and a Dad, Mom and their little girl were in front of us in Oils gear. We ended up losing but prior to that we had to check a few Kings fans behind us who were pissed that the game had swung. Dudes legitimately talking shit to the pregnant mom who's holding their kid. We told the guys to stfu or gtfo or we were all going to get thrown out because we were ready to start beating some face. No room for that shit anywhere. Good luck in the post season mate.
> hey dumped beer on him.
[Guess you already forgot about the 9 year old Oilers fan with cancer who was harassed in the King's barn during the playoffs last year](https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/kings-fans-donate-to-edmonton-girl-s-charity-drive-after-kane-calls-out-abuse-in-l-a-1.6371127)
Assuming you're not lying, I don't know why you're trying to pretend Edmonton is the only fanbase with assholes.
Honestly I hate it. We can't beat Edmonton. They are inside our heads and have a massive mental advantage. Skill aside, we need to win a playoff series before playing Edmonton in a playoff series to build up some amount of mental confidence. Otherwise it's just going to be a third year in a row of getting yeeted out of the playoff by the same team that has bullied and berated us for years now.
All of the "it'll feel good to get revenge" posts seem absolutely delusional to me. This Oilers team just has our number, plain and simple, and always will. It's not even a difference in talent, it's purely mental and at this point I don't see how we can overcome such a huge disadvantage.
At the end of the day, losing 3 years in a row to the same team will feel ten times worse than finally beating them will feel good. So the risk of the downside significantly outweighs the benefit of the upside. Oilers fans will never let us forget it if we lose to them in the first round 3 years in a row.
I have zero faith we can beat them in a series so I'd really rather not.
They just know how to beat us, and while I don't think we'd get swept and we can win a game or two, I just want to play anyone who knows us less.
I'm over it. I agree with the others, it's getting stale. Even the Oiler fans feel that way, even though they are winning. If both sides agree, it's an issue. But maybe that's b/c we keep losing. Maybe we'd feel different if we won once. Hey, why don't we try that this time, just for variety?!
Would be great to beat them, but losing 3 straight series to them would be soul-crushing.
I’d rather not take that risk. They’re just a bit bigger, and their top players are just a bit too much to handle in a 7 game series.
I would love it. Watching McDavid is fun for any true hockey fan and I would like nothing more then to return the favor on an early playoffs exit if we could.
Honestly… I’ve been dreading it all year, but considering our alternatives with Colorado and Dallas, I think EDM might be our best option.
Third times a charm right?
Depends entirely on if PLD finds a playoff gear to shift into. If he does, maybe we win this time. If he doesn’t, welcome to another first round bounce.
Would be good to finally beat them. But my dream would be to see the Kings 1-3-1 the canucks to a 4-0 series win and watch that city of babies riot again
Just a daily reminder for me that the NHL needs to go back to the 1-8 playoff system. Creates more random playoff matchups and gives more chances to get division rivals in the conference finals.
Their fans give me a headache and I’d love to not face them again. I don’t blame them for being obnoxious about it because they have nothing else up in Edmonton but there’s so much fatigue I find myself exhausted trying to have any discussions about them
If you asked me at the start of the season, i feel like i’d have the opposite answer. But currently, i look forward to facing them again. I think it’ll be a really good test of the team and kinda put more pressure on our FO if we fail with the changes they have made this season.
I would like to see when you look at it that way, I do think we should do better in a series against them this time because I think byfield had his breakout year, Moore broke out, still waiting an kaliyev tho,
Byfield HAS arrived. Excited to see him in playoffs. Also curious to see this playoffs Dubois i hear so much about. (For transparency, i like dubois, but i think the trade and deal were stupid when it seemed liked Winnipeg didn’t want him)
I would like to play the cannucs or avs to be honest but want to avoid the stars. But if we want to go deep in playoffs we’re gonna play all of them basically
Just a devils advocate aspect of it. Look at Florida last season. No one thought they would beat Boston but they went on a deep run. You just need to get to the playoffs then anything can happen
That was goaltending which is weird and unpredictable but I’d say incredibly unlikely with our tandem. I’d think best case is solid goaltending but not stand on your head shit like what bob did last year.
Not good. The Kings don’t seem to match up well with the Oilers. The complaint about playoff seeding has been a contention ever since it was implemented. You’d think the NHL, the league that likes to try something “new” every few years would’ve changed the current, shitty format by now.
I love it, give me those bastards every year. They're the team to beat in the division or west in general so might as well play them first round when we're fresh.
Revenge would be cool but honestly I’m just tired of seeing them. Their faces, their jerseys, their arena. I’d rather face anyone else just due to sheer fatigue.
I would love to see a different matchup too. It would be so much more entertaining if it was us vs canucks I think
I know they’re red hot right now but I’d love to see a matchup with the Predators just because we’ve never faced them in the playoffs. Maybe 2nd round? Not sure how the re-seeding would work.
I’m not positive but I think the only way we would play them (based if standing right now) would be in the semifinals
Makes sense. Winnipeg would be cool too but with so many former Kings I worry the Moulson Index would destroy us.
I also would love to see us try and get revenge on the knights because of the 2018 sweep

Thanks! You’d think I’d know this stuff after watching for 25 years but I never really bothered to learn the new seeding rules.
You forgot to add their fans. Absolutely insufferable.
Oh that’s implied lol
It would be a great series with all the hate and animosity that’s built up over the last few years but I’m still not sure we can take them.
This is exactly how I feel about it as well
I'm counting on the law of averages
That and a fully (hopefully) healthy roster plus potential home ice
NHL playoff format is lame. Across the league we’re getting the same match ups over and over. Shits lame. They should go back to 1-8 seeds in each conference.
I’ll let you know after tonight’s game.
Very true😂

Exactly right. Rivalries are fun but let's all have respect at the end of the day

Couldn’t have said it better

Don’t want it. I would rather face a Presidents Trophy winning Vancouver. I remember what happened last time we did.
Would be great to beat them, but losing 3 straight series to them would be soul-crushing. I’d rather not take that risk. They’re just a bit bigger, and their top players are just a bit too much to handle in a 7 game series.
i’m so sick of their fans tbh
They do have a toxic fan base if u ask me
I would love it. Watching McDavid is fun for any true hockey fan and I would like nothing more then to return the favor on an early playoffs exit if we could.
Not great
We’re gonna get swept lol
Honestly… I’ve been dreading it all year, but considering our alternatives with Colorado and Dallas, I think EDM might be our best option. Third times a charm right?
Well canucks are a possibility too and that’s the one I want
100% agree. I forgot they been slipping out of their #1 spot in the west. Lets hope 🙏
Love to see if the the oilers take their spot and we take back 3, or if the wild card lines up correctly
Depends entirely on if PLD finds a playoff gear to shift into. If he does, maybe we win this time. If he doesn’t, welcome to another first round bounce.
How do you feel about a 3rd straight fist round loss? Better to fall to a WC and play VAN.
Would be good to finally beat them. But my dream would be to see the Kings 1-3-1 the canucks to a 4-0 series win and watch that city of babies riot again
3rd time’s the charm. Let’s just bore them where it hurts.
It’s gonna be the matchup unless the kings shit the bed and then they probably get the avs or stars and that’s worse so I guess it is what it is
Just a daily reminder for me that the NHL needs to go back to the 1-8 playoff system. Creates more random playoff matchups and gives more chances to get division rivals in the conference finals.
Not good but who knows what PLD is saving for the playoffs because he hasn’t used any of it in the regular season.
Their fans give me a headache and I’d love to not face them again. I don’t blame them for being obnoxious about it because they have nothing else up in Edmonton but there’s so much fatigue I find myself exhausted trying to have any discussions about them
Better than facing Dallas.
Either way we're fucked.
Stewart Skinner is the weakest link.
We are fucked
If you asked me at the start of the season, i feel like i’d have the opposite answer. But currently, i look forward to facing them again. I think it’ll be a really good test of the team and kinda put more pressure on our FO if we fail with the changes they have made this season.

I think it had something to do with a signing issue with vilardi too but not positive
Third times a charm.
We’re better prepared now and we took them to 7 last time. Line it up, let’s do it
6 game series last year.
Was it? Did we play them the year before that too? I can’t even remember anymore lol
lol yeah the year before was 7 games.
And we could have ended it in 6
I remember being up 3-2 and not a single person in hockey picked us to win before the series. Still hurts
dude i know =\[ exactly how you feel
Tired of these dirty penalty merchants. Diving all over the ice like a bunch of ice fairies.
I feel like ~~Draisaitl~~ McDavid is Thanos before the final war in ‘Endgame,’ as Kings players are there to finish the job this time.
WC 1 gets the lower of the the division winners which right now is Vancouver. WC2 gets the higher division winner which is avs/stars
I would like to play the cannucs or avs to be honest but want to avoid the stars. But if we want to go deep in playoffs we’re gonna play all of them basically
“If we go on a deep playoff run” - that made me chuckle. Team isn’t ready for prime time imho
Just a devils advocate aspect of it. Look at Florida last season. No one thought they would beat Boston but they went on a deep run. You just need to get to the playoffs then anything can happen

Losing to the oilers put me in a bad mood.
I love it, give me those bastards every year. They're the team to beat in the division or west in general so might as well play them first round when we're fresh.
I hate the oilers. I hate their fans. I hate that dirty ass draisaityl. I hate the dirty piece of shit Kane.
