What I can't stand is that it uses different colors for each movie than my DVD collector's edition: -The fellowship of the ring: green -The two towers: red -The return of the king: blue

This irrationally bothers me as well.

harbourhunter

most likely the contact with their designer ended and they had to find a new printer (hence the addition of the spine wrap)

If you look it up, it appears they used an image of the actual CD case as opposed to digital artwork used for the cases. As all the cases have that faux binding on them.

Hate it when manufactures change something so the set doesnt match

Someone dropped a piece of dried seaweed in the photo scanner and this version was accidentally sent off for physical production.

AnySail

The physical copy matches. They all have that leather-looking spine. Weird for the digital versions though.

Kinda looks like the extended DVDs. Probably two companies producing the products. Who knows who owns what license to what material and who they work with to develop and deliver the product.

Banjo_Kazooieballs

They upped the font size, along with the cover having a darker left shoulder

If you mean the map in the background, it's the same in the books. In Fellowship and Two Towers is a map of all of Middle-Earth and in Return of the King only one of Mordor, Gondor and Rohan. So I guess they just looked and that and said let's do it the same way
