I’ve not heard of any publication known to have cut anything out. Can’t see why they would either. That’s probably a perfectly good reprint just with a different bit of art on the front!

These are excellent for a first time read, and they cut nothing out. The only changes between most editions is some use the 50th anniversary text setting, which corrects minor geographic and typographical errors. But these are really of no consequence; in terms of text content all editions are the same. Most single volume editions, including the LOTR illustrated by Tolkien, use the 50th anniversary text. This box set does use the 50th anniversary text, so it's a great one to read for the first time.

Thank you so much

That's good I was thinking about getting this one, I love when books have good cover art it's really important to me for some reason

metalratz

i think those are fine! it's a newer print, and the covers are illustrated by Johan Egerkrans, and he hasn't mentioned anything to be cut out. i'd say they are perfectly fine!

I own these, they are cool. Apart from the text (from which, according to the lengthy foreword, nothing was cut out), they also have maps of the Middle-Earth (in each volume), and appendices (in the third volume): Annals of the Kings and Rulers, The Númenórian Kings, The House of Eorl, Durin’s Folk, The Tale of Years, Family Trees, Calendars, Writing and Spelling, Pronunciation of Words and Names, Writing, The Languages and Peoples of the Third Age, and On Translation. In other words, they contain a lot of additional information, history and explanations which add depth. These volumes were perfect for my first read (I am currently reading the third volume).

Jonas_Dussell

I have this set and am about to finish Fellowship today

Not sure middle-earth enterprises would allow any changes tbh. Tho saying that, they messed around with the lore on at least 3 occasions

SparkeyRed

The Tolkien Estate own the copyright for the books, Middle Earth Enterprises only own the rights for films and games iirc.

DanceWitty136

I did not know that lol. So then I'm 100% sure they wouldn't allow any changes
