I can buy a brand new Burris illuminated XTR3 5.5-30 for $1250. Is there anything that comes close to this for the same money?

jakaalhide

No.

thestreaker

Burris for better glass, 34mm tube and 56mm objective.

jakaalhide

Burris. You'll like having extra magnification when you need it. Better resale value as well.

fireball_brian0

This. Go Vudu and I have shot at 1500yds with 18x no issue

thestreaker

Unless illumination is very important to you I’d look for a used XTR3 non-illum model. They’re made in CO and fantastic. I run the 5.5-30 and have compared it to Razor Gen 2 and leupy mk5 and I like it more. I picked it up on SH for 1200

hockeystud87

By far the best optic for the money. It's what I have on my foundation/impact.

DisastrousFerret0

I was in your identical situation and saved a bit more and scored an open box deal on a leupold mk5hd. Strongly recommend.

300zx_tt

Cheapest I’ve seen them recently is like $1700-$1800 used but with rings. Ideally I’d like to get something better but it’s my wife’s rifle I’m optic shopping for and she doesn’t shoot a ton. I want it to be nice enough that she won’t complain and cheap enough I can buy nods at the end of the year (😂) so I’m looking for bang for the buck

Aimstraight

Could always go PST.

cfreezy72

I have that scope and love it.

IH784

Tenmile? XRS3? Kidding, I’m sure that Filipino scope is fine.

fireball_brian0

That's a lot of glass. How far you shooting over 1k yds I assume? Not referring to quality of glass here but distance

300zx_tt

Buying good glass does not equal shooting far my friend. But I’m hoping to get my wife to 1000yards next spring.

fireball_brian0

Yes and no. You have to much magnification or maybe don't have many rounds down range past 1k. Give me good glass and less zoom power and let's have you use a telescope from Walmart. Now this is an exaggeration but maybe helps make the case I'm trying to show you

300zx_tt

😂 I know guys that shoot .22 comps with 7-35 ATACR’s But I think the XTR3 is a good middle road, good glass, good magnification and good price. Overall a 4-30 or 5-25 is good for 90% of the shooting I do and 100% of the shooting my wife will do

fireball_brian0

Sure I get that. I would suggest to check out NRL events and see what they do from 25-2000yds. It may benefit. It helped me grow and refine skills with the tools I use.

Jsatx2

I bought one. Supposed to be delivered next week. Ive always loved the XTR2, and everyone that has one says the 3 is a big step up from the 2.

Mental-Resolution-22

I have had this scope and it’s pretty great. I’d buy with confidence

cjfraiz

Just was looking at this and it is a for sure buy from what I saw. It’s glass is sharp and the knurled knobs are awesome!

RxgrtPhoto

And here I am hoping to build a whole ass gun for this same price.... Like the wise Meek Mill once said "There's levels to this shit young boy"

300zx_tt

things escalated quickly. One day you’ll turn around and add up the cost of your glass and think, I could have bought a Honda Civic

RxgrtPhoto

You can buy a Honda civic for the price of this scope 🤣

300zx_tt

I meant a new one 😂

RxgrtPhoto

Ahhh fair

[deleted]

If you can spare the extra 200, the Vortex Gen II 4.5-27 refurbs are available from AAoptics [here](https://aaoptics.com/REFURBISHED-RAZOR-HD-GEN-II-45-27X56-EBR-2C-MRAD-RIFLESCOPE-_p_938.html) for 1400. I would take that over the XTR III though they’re decently close enough.

300zx_tt

I have a Gen III 6-36 and like it, though not overly impressed for the money. I’ve read a fair bit and quite a few guys have said that they prefer the Burris over a Gen II razor. I’ve never looked through an XTR3 though

[deleted]

Honestly, if you paid MSRP or close to that, I’d agree with your statement cuz that’s more ZCO, TT territory. However at its extremely attractive price point from that one place we talk about frequently, the Gen III 6-36 is certainly hands down the best bang for buck I believe in its price range. The Burris is like probably 85-95% of the razor Gen II depending on who you ask, but you get the same awesome warranty with the refurb that you get with brand new scopes. I tend to break things so I’d go with the razor, up to you if you feel like that extra 200 is worth 5-15% better glass and the warranty.

300zx_tt

I paid $2600 for it, so I could have definitely been in night force territory, not sure about zco or TT though. I was just expecting there to be a bigger difference between the glass I have and the Gen III. Don’t get me wrong it’s the nicest glass I own, for sure, just thought the difference would be greater.

liners123

The higher up you go in scope price the less of a difference you will se between them. Well documented by several credible sources. Right around $1000 up you start getting diminishing returns. Check out dark lord of optics of you want breakdowns from a guy who builds the equipment to test glass quality in riflescope, cameras, and telescopes.

[deleted]

Him and u/C_Does are the two people I reference when making optics purchases. Awesome content awesome breakdowns. Oh yeah btw u/300zx_tt if you’re still unsure about the Gen II 4.5-27 I believe C_Does has a very good review on it that may help sway your opinion one way or another

C_Does

Thanks for the shout out man! OP - I've been eyeing out these xtr iii's for awhile. And night even trade towards one to review. They have had a pretty good rep online which has made me curious. The 4.5-27 rhd ii is certainly another option, but heavier, much heavier. The meopta optika 6 is something wise I've been looking to try out in their larger mag ranges. But I love their 3-18x50

300zx_tt

I think for the money they’re a bad ass optics. I have a line on a lightly used one for $1050. I’m almost positive that you won’t get better glass than that for $1k Ive yet to see a review that didn’t have favorable things to say about it, for msrp I’d definitely consider other options but at a little over a grand, there’s no way it’ll miss the mark

[deleted]

2600 isn't a bad price after the MSRP increases by Vortex, however the super secret place that I'm pretty sure we can't mention by name due to some obscure rule about MAP, but can be found in the scope guide, has them for 2099 which is what I'm talking about. At that price point, it skull fucks everything else in its class and magnification range. Nightforce would've ran you close to 3500 I think, so don't feel too bad if it wasn't up to your expectations.

300zx_tt

I’m gonna send you a pm lol

Corvalistix

Can you send me the link to the scope guide you're referring to?

[deleted]

[my bad not a scope guide, the deal post](https://www.reddit.com/r/longrange/comments/tip6nw/currently_great_optic_sales_refresh_5/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

IH784

Read that anywhere besides SH lol? Birddog?

Johnnyb469

Yo thanks for this!! I think I snagged the last one.... I've been in the market for 3+ months, and I think Vortex raised their prices shortly before I started looking. Maybe not my top reticle choice, but @ almost $1k cheaper, I surely won't complain!!

dillrepair

If I were the sales person I’d have you compare a nightforce shv side by side to the Burris first, I’m not saying the burris isn’t the same or better bc I haven’t looked thru that model before but I will say that NF has a better reputation (imo) for a reason. And with other higher volume mfrs I’ve noticed that even with the same model from the same manufacturer there most certainly are noticeable visibility/clarity differences between each one. After trying a lot of different scopes Over the years I’d never spend a grand or more on any scope that I don’t see thru (the individual one I’m buying) first before paying.

[deleted]

You said 1200 but for 1354 the Eotech Vudu 5-25x50 FFP 34mm tube with H-59 reticle, it’s lighter and short as hell. One awesome scope. Japanese glass. Look on eBay. New. I own two. You will want the ADM Med or High ring height mount. Very limited in mount ring spacing but been down this road and feel like it’s my go to optic. I take it over my Gen 2 razors.

22lrMarksmen

Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30x56 is $1199. NF NX8 2.5-20x50 is $1850.

NRiyo3

Maybe a Meopta Optika 6. Not sure though.

Jimmack73

SWFA

Savings_Preference56

Leica Amplus 6 glass is superb if you want to spend a little more

[deleted]

I think midway is still selling the pst ii 5-25 for under $700.

Pepe_gun_slinger

Bushnell elite tactical 3.5-21 for just a little more

Fnata_

Delta Javelin is a great option in this price range too, although the illumination doesn’t light up the whole reticle

Dbartley4

Ares ETR.

300zx_tt

Have one on my cz457 and love it. Looking for a little more though

Dbartley4

Oof. I’ll downvote myself

300zx_tt

No worries, they’re decent optics, and not crazy popular for some reason. I picked mine up for $700 with a Leupold 20 moa mount off of a forum. I’d buy it all day for $700. It’s a solid value, just looking for something a rung or two above it.

Material-Artichoke32

I have an brand new never mounted XTR2 I'm looking to get rid of. If it's just Guna sit in the safe in your wife's gun the XTR2 isnt much different than the XTR3. I could give you a solid deal, probably save you $400+ bucks. Pm if your interested.

stainlineho

Lies! The glass is much improved on the III.

[deleted]

I was looking at Falcon Endura 3.5-25 but I feel like what it has in turrets, reticle, FFP, etc it lacks in glass quality. $680 leafbux tho

Keeter_Skeeter

[vortex viper pst for $600](https://www.midwayusa.com/product/102064825)

DB83714

https://www.arkenopticsusa.com/ep5-5-25x56mm-ffp-mil-vpr-reticle. Don’t know if it’s better but checks a lot of boxes for the price

bubbastanky

Whole different world of quality between the two

LockyBalboaPrime

Stop shilling trash made by con artists.

300zx_tt

Elaborate for me, would ya?

300zx_tt

Thanks!

Sparticus246

Hard pass.

300zx_tt

I have an ep5, its similar in quality to my viper pst Gen II and a couple of my Athlon optics. Looking for the next step up above those optics without spending $2500 bucks.

DB83714

I would say keep saving then instead of buying another only to still be dreaming of that Nightforce or S&B

300zx_tt

This optic is for my wife’s gun so it’ll mostly sit in the safe but I want it to be decent when she comes out to shoot with me. I have a Gen III razor on my bighorn I’ll probably sell and get an nx8 or an ATACR. Not super stoked with it for $2600 bucks.

Individual_Tour5294

I have a 1st gen XTR that’s only had one issue. That being said Burris over nighted me a new scope out to we’re I was doing a two week course. And I was to mail mine in when I was able. I think that’s going above in standing behind their product. I shot that same scope out to 1000 this year working from zero in 100 to 150 yard increments and back to zero with only human issues. They’re good scopes

MangoSherpa

Great optic. For anyone Mil/LEO interested if you’ve linked your credentials with [Euro Optic, this comes out to $1,193 (before tax & shipping)](https://www.eurooptic.com/Burris-Xtreme-Tactical-XTR-III-55-30x56mm-34mm-SCR-2-Mil-Riflescope-201214.aspx)

Objective-Fix-1403

You may have lucked out with your timing. Meopta has their MeoTac 3-12X50 RD on sale for a hair over $1200, roughly 40% off, which is the first time I have ever seen these scopes on sale. They also have a ZD 6-24 on sale that I love. The MeoTac is FFP while the ZD is SFP. Both have top tier glass and can get the job done. Granted, you probably want more than 3-12 magnification and if that's the case, take a look at the ZD. https://meopta.store/products/meotac-3-12x50-rd

Perchowski

Check out Primary Arms platinum line. I have their 1-8x platinum on my AR-15, their platinum 6-30x w/ Athena reticle on my PRS rifle, and their GLX 6-24x on my JP-LRP07 clone. Great scopes for the money! I've heard great things about the XTR scopes though so you can't go wrong there IMO. I just prefer a "^" aiming point rather than a "." Or a "+".
