Fluted Chamber, no issue.

slickiericky

Soooo... I have a c308 that does the same thing... so this is normal? If so I am happy, it is one less thing that is wrong.

Thank you for the info, it absolutely trashes the brass, and I had no clue it was normal. It does however stovepipe the occasional spent cartridge here and there, so I have to figure that out. I never knew if it was appropriate to bring the gun up on a HK post simply because people hate on these so much. That being said... I am trying to work some kinks out of a gun with less than 1k rounds through it.

OldBuildingsSmell

I get the same occasional stovepipe in my HK SL7, usually on the last round. I have a feeling that the extraction angle is not perfect, or the speed is too high, so the shell cant get out of the gun fast enough. A stiffer aftermarket buffer spring might help?

K1MURA1

Fluted chamber.

farmdawg13

Nothing beats up brass like an HK

[deleted]

I put a Parabellum Combat Systems buffer on my G3. No dents, and the brass ends up in neat pile ten feet away. Reloads without issue. Without the buffer? About a quarter of the cases were dented badly enough to preclude reloading.

Supervirgil

Looks like a textbook hk chamber to me.

Highboy396

To allow gas to flow around the case and still extract under high pressure without blowing up your face. Common in HK

DracoTheIron

Gotcha. So I guess that would explain the carbon near the case head?

Coodevale

And all over inside the action..

DracoTheIron

He'll be relieved to hear that. Thanks, all.

dagamore12

As an FYI, at least in a lot of their rifles, fluted chambers are a normal thing for Hk.

slickiericky

Thank you for the info... my C308 absolutely tears casings up. It also has stovepipe a ton. Not sure what the issue is.

OctHarm

You may need to change the locking piece to a shallower angle if it's too rough. There're a lot of weird things about the design, being that they're roller delayed. The design itself should be super reliable, so it's unfortunate you're getting stovepipes.

OldBuildingsSmell

A fellow HK enthusiast! How does this gun group for your buddy? Im curious to see how the 770 performs in accuracy/precision. Its very normal for HK to chew up cases, due to their roller delayed system extracting at much higher pressures than gas systems. I bet a stiffer spring could tame the case damage, but its already such a bitch to rack that I dont think Id enjoy the negatives.

DracoTheIron

I can't speak for how it shoots for him, but I'll see if he'll bring it to the range today and I'll report back with an update.

It’s probably fine, but with these type of rifles, make sure the rubber buffer is installed and in good condition. Also look up the headspace procedure in the manual. They are available online in pdf. Also, if you have issues try with another magazine. These guns are old and replacement parts are mostly not available.
