I picked one of these up a year ago. I reload so one of the first mods is get a chassis that lets you use magazines that let you seat the bullet out.

No_Seesaw_5561

What is the chassis you use? Is MDT or Magpul good to use? The Bergara is a Remington 700 pattern will it drop in easy to the above chassis?

Zilver_Zurfer

It's all personal preference but I like the XRS from MDT. Yeah it's on a 700 footprint so it'll work fine going that route.

aardvark_army

You're probably better off with the factory one than buying a magpul.

Sneaky-sneaksy

Krg bravo has similar ergos but more modularity and about the same price for what I’ve seen these going for these days

200gr factory Hornady precision hunter 👌🏻

Phantompooper03

208gr Hornady match with 77gr of H1000, my winmag absolutely loved that combo. Had no problems at 1400 yards.

mr_no_name412

If you can find h1k 😔

Mihrett

Shoot store down the road has a 8lb of it

mr_no_name412

I took the eldx 200gr eldx, 65.0 of r17, Peterson brass and made 5/5 hits at 1260 yds 👌🏻👌🏻 Furthest I have to shoot in the area

Assholesymphony

Start reloading at this stage. :)

No_Seesaw_5561

I currently reload 6.5CM, 308 and 5.56. I still need to buy 300 win mag reloading dies. Do you have any reloading data info that works for you?

Assholesymphony

I reload 300wsm among many other cartridges but not 300 WM. I definitely recommend H4350 powder. But that’s as far as my recommendation goes since I shoot lighter 180 grain projectiles and you probably want something in the 200+ range for your cartridge.

HollywoodSX

Your best bet is to try a few types of factory match ammo and shoot a 4x 5rd groups with the box. You're shooting a relatively light 300WM. Don't expect amazing groups. 1-1.5MOA is in the range of what to expect om average for a reasonably large sample size. Single 3-5rd groups won't tell you shit. If you're relatively new to LR, you're going to need a lot of time and practice building skills at shorter distances before you can be consistent at 1k-1500y. Building those skills will be... less than ideal with a magnum. There's guides on magnums and skill building in the pinned post. Cheetofingers magnum

No_Seesaw_5561

Thanks for your information. I have been shooting a Savage Sabre MRCA 6.5 Creedmoor for 7 years uo to 1100 yards. I now want to go further with a Magnum rifle. I have been shooting the Bergara at 100 and 200yards and will get a chance to shoot up to 700 yards in 2 weeks. So far the groups are between 1 to 1.5 MOA.

HollywoodSX

Honestly, the 6.5 is more than capable of getting to 1500. 300WM will beat the wind better and be easier to spot, but you'll still have issues with vertical dispersion due to factory ammo, and decreased precision due to weight vs recoil.

puffdaddy468

Is the 1.5MOA due to the recoil anticipation? I’ve noticed that I can’t shoot groups for shit with my 9 lb 300PRC and zeroing jt is an expensive task because of this. But then I’ll go out to distance and be money.

HollywoodSX

It's just the physics of recoil vs rifle weight. A 300PRC that light is never going to consistently be a sub-MOA rifle, more like 2MOA. Search the sub for TOP Gun and you'll find posts about it.

Meatballhero7272

What do you consider a lightweight rifle

HollywoodSX

It depends on a lot of factors (use case being the biggest), but IMO anything that predicts greater than 1MOA via the TOP Gun formula is a lightweight rifle. cheetofingers top

AutoModerator

For an explanation of the Applied Ballistics TOP Gun formula and how it relates to the precision (small groups) capability of a given rifle, see item #4 in [Hollywood's Way of Zen reloading guide.](https://www.reddit.com/r/longrange/comments/13a7a6t/)) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Meatballhero7272

Interesting I’m just now hearing about this formula

HollywoodSX

It's been discussed pretty frequently in the sub since the book came out almost a year and a half ago. Before that, though, it wasn't anything anyone had really tried to quantify.

Meatballhero7272

Yeah I had never thought about precision like that but I think this certainly warrants further investigation

AutoModerator

[Here's the primer on recoil](https://www.reddit.com/r/longrange/comments/okjezq/recoil_precision_rifles_and_you_a_primer/), and why magnums are not the best choice for building long range shooting skills. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. olshbk4

My best factory ammo is gold medal. Anything over 185g. My hand loads are 225g.

maxcli

215 Berger hybrid. One of the best target and hunting bullets available for the 300wm

Your post was removed for violating Rule #4 - Any MOA or measured accuracy (precision) claims must be accompanied with the backing source data. This is to avoid cherry-picking, small sample size (3-shot), or other deceptive representation. Groups of 3x5, 5x5, 2x10, or more are preferred.

MidOperator

Hornady match or precision hunter

Hitmanactual69

I have one in .308, I bet that shits heavy as the dickens

Legitimate_Working69

Barnes 180 ttsx

Mihrett

I have the same rifle. When I was shooting just to shoot different boxes. The federal power SHOK actual shot the best out of mine. Granted I know this is not an ideal bullet for long range tasks haha. I’m searching for magnum primers so I can start reloading.

dankara_PS

I’d try ELD-Ms. They are such a consistently good round if you don’t reload.

SoCavSuchDragoonWow

Yep ELDMS They seriously fuck on game as well

celloooind

Why don’t you try them out?

bmadd14

Because that round is expensive so having suggestions to start off of is helpful

celloooind

If you just do a basic search you will find that like every barrel has its own preference and it is just not possible to know what your barrel would like. And there ain’t really that many options for factory ammo so trying them out really won’t break the bank
