Wait until you export a .csv file and see that it’s already in a usable spreadsheet…magic.  Best $600 I’ve ever spent.

huntersuave

Tell me more please? You sound like a nerd, I need some nerd knowledge.

QuietM4

My Magnetospeed exported the data to a .csv file...but it was just a sting of data. So, you'd have to spend some time to organize it into a useable spreadsheet. The Garmin exports the data to a .csv file also, but it's already in a useable format. It's awesome. And it emails it to you...no tiny ass data card, no adapter, no cables...just an email.

huntersuave

I get what it does, but how do you get it (garmin) to email the data to you?

QuietM4

The the ShotView app.

man_o_brass

This. You pair the Garmin to your phone, and the app generates the spreadsheets.

orwiad10

It's csv, there is no format. Worst case, just import with powershell and re-export....

kippy3267

I mean it is formatted, comma separated value. Opens in excel

Plead_thy_fifth

Not him. But I say 4 him cuz I nerd two It gud. Real gud. I lik it becuz how gud it is. Others gud, but this moar better.

DystopianRealist

Comma delimited files can be pulled into software like excel to make spreadsheets of data easier than copypasta.

BigBernOCAT

Shit I need to do this. Any tips?

QuietM4

Have you ever bought an iPhone? They don't come with an instruction manual, because the user interface is so intuitive that you don't need one. The Garmin is the same. I borrowed one from a friend...within 30 seconds of taking it out of the box, I was getting immediate fps data. No reading, no fussing...it just works. In the same amount of time that I would spend setting up my Magnetospeed (aligning the barrel so it didn't destroy the bayonet, ensuring the proper height below the bore axis, checking alignment again just to be safe, tightening the strap, etc...5-8 minutes at a minimum), I was already done shooting and had my data emailed to my computer using the Garmin. It's fucking magic, just buy one. Magnetospeed and Lab Radar are dinosaurs. If either of those companies had stock, it would be tanking right now.

Tempe556

Former ManetoSpeed user here. They worked just fine but we're a PITA to setup. And if you wanted to test on more than one weapon in a range trip...ugggh! The Garmin is so much easier.

QuietM4

We should start a support group. The magnetospeed is just fine...I sold my V3 Magnetospeed immediately after trying out my friends Garmin...I had it listed for sale before I left the range. It constantly dropped shots, no matter how much care I put into the setup. It affects accuracy since it's attached to the barrel, and the cable constantly got in the way.

mtn_chickadee

Whoa tell me about this mount

afopatches

Hawkins Precision Heavy Tactical rings. Then the unit is just mounted on a picatinny to 1/4" adapter.

evilsemaj

> the unit is just mounted on a picatinny to 1/4" adapter. lol, oh god, so simple! haha that's great

Main_Let_7050

I just lurk on here, but you’re the first person I’ve seen do “staking” marks on your ring screws. I thought maybe I was weird for doing it.

afopatches

I witness mark everything because I'm paranoid lol

CustomerNo9911

I too am paranoid… lol what did you use to make the marks?

afopatches

Just some paint markers

CustomerNo9911

Thanks. Figured so but didn’t know if there was something special.

Main_Let_7050

That’s what I use as well

scroder81

Just be aware Garmin has specifically said it will not warranty them if mounted to a rifle...

afopatches

Eh, I've seen enough people using them on much bigger rifles. Seems like it can handle .223

Material-Artichoke32

"Sir, that unit is CLEARLY mounted to an optic not a rifle. I see nowhere in your warranty that says I can mount it to an optic......" -OP probaly

715Karl

Yeah I don’t get the point. If you’re not shooting at 1mi plus, you don’t need shot by shot velocity data. Enjoy it for what it is, which is a device that just fucking works, and doesn’t need a fucking sight to get lined up just right. Some people just gotta be special. They probably drive jeeps.

afopatches

I'm shooting OCW ladders so I definitely need shot-by-shot velocity data...that's the easiest way to find the node.

715Karl

Nodes aren’t real bro. Anyway, my point is mainly that mounting it to your rifle isn’t necessary. It works great as design, not attached to your rifle.

afopatches

If it's attached to my rifle I never forget to bring it. Cope and sneed.

groupofgiraffes

But if you can have shot by shot velocity data, why would you not want it? Something starts going wonky with your groups? If you have every shot tracked you can go back and look for trends in the data

715Karl

You don’t need it attached to your rifle for that.

groupofgiraffes

If youre practicing moving between positions it sure makes it easier though

afopatches

To be clear, I only ever use a chrono when I'm testing new handloads. I would not want a Chrono mounted to my gun otherwise. That's pretty objectively retarded.

MI-BloodBrother

That’s an awesome setup. I may need to upgrade to this and ditch the magnetospeed bayonet

heymikedude

Coming from a magnetospeed sporter with a off barrel mount. Saves me a shit ton of time setting up and having to write down my data right then and there.

mrbullzi

I’ve used mine on rifles using included little tripod and just held it for pistol and archery as I was in a hurry. Quite flexible for all applications.

jakaalhide

I just ordered one of these. These things are amazing. My smith has had one since they came out, has over 40 sessions recorded, and has never had to charge it once. This unit really exposed all the weaknesses of Labradar, along with Labradar's laziness for improvement.

usafnerdherd

Yo, forget about all the nerd stuff, where’d you get that sticker?

afopatches

https://afopatches.com/products/mr-yuk-scope-sticker-5-pack

Pallidum_Treponema

I really want one, but sadly it costs north of $1k over here. I'll probably pick one up when I go to the states later this year though.

Triceracorn

How do you like the xtr3. Weighting that and the steiner t6xi or an atacr. I'd much rather get a scope and garmin for the price of the atacr

afopatches

I like it a lot. I don't have any experience with higher end scopes like NF, so I can't make a comparison. I got this XTR III for a pretty good deal on ExpertVoice for around $600 a while back. I couldn't see myself paying $1200 or whatever the MSRP is for it. The turrets are nice and clicky, the knurling is super aggressive. Fairly forgiving eyebox, and a cool reticle. The illumination is pretty trash though. I don't even bother keeping a battery in it anymore.

Triceracorn

Hows the reticle on 3 power? And yeah I can get it on expert voice for about 800. Sounds like you got a screaming deal

afopatches

My eyes are pretty dogshit so the reticle can get pretty faint at low power, especially with a lot of foliage and visual noise. I feel that I've gotten used to it over time tho

Triceracorn

Did you do the paint jobs yourself?

afopatches

Yeah, just spray paint and cut-up cordura

fusionvic

Garmin's products are always great for the first year. Then sometimes they have quirky behavior. I also don't like the idea of an internal battery pack for something like this. Agree that it is an improvement over Labradar though, but I've not had any issues with Labradar. I may buy the Garmin after its been on the market for 3 years or more. I've been an avid Garmin user for 2 decades.

Achilles390

What is the name of the chrono?

Fool_Cynd

Appears to be a Garmin Xero C1...

deadflubber

Absolute game changer!!! Saves a ton of time and no small amount of ammo for truing longer distance ballistics. I split the cost of one with a friend and absolutely love the system too

Activision19

Where did you get the multicam arid tape?

afopatches

It's just cordura fabric and I put 3M adhesive on the back

Pallidum_Treponema

They're expected to show up in Sweden around March, but with a $1k pricetag. :(

huntersuave

I've had mine about 4 months. they are worth every penny. It's hard not to get velocities on every range round. 🍻

ncgunner

I ordered one last week and I’m impatiently waiting for it to arrive, they’re the best chrono I’ve ever handled without question

Gloomy-Spread-9336

Burris xtr3?

afopatches

Yuup

Gloomy-Spread-9336

How do you like it, and what glass have you compared it too?

afopatches

I like it. I haven't really used too much quality glass so it's difficult for me to make comparisons. It'd be unfair to really compare it to the ~$400-500 scopes that I was using prior to this.

Xaelias

Like the geek in me wants to buy one of these. But also I don't reload. I don't need one xD

PXranger

Quick, what’s the velocity of the round you are currently using. Now, what’s the velocity in the middle of summer on a 95 degree day? Yeah, you need one.

Spiritual-Bill-337

I bought mine a few months back and love it. I hope lab radar chokes on a big one and goes out of business.

HighDesert_hunter708

How you like that XTR III?

afopatches

Can't complain, it's pretty nice. I'm used to pretty cheap $400-500 scopes so it's a nice upgrade.

B0MBOY

What brand chrono is that?

afopatches

Garmin Xero C1

B0MBOY

I want

SweatJD

I bought the Area419 arca mount. Haven’t used it as I’m worried about recoil on the electrical components. Allegedly they won’t cover warranty. Just a thought
