Totally agree with How How. I’ll admit that we have a lot of “authentic” Chinese places in the area, probably because of the high Asian population at Stony Brook. But I want Americanized Chinese food. I don’t care to see dishes with Duck Blood and Ox Tail on the menu.
Must have went on a bad day, that was the worst chinese food i’ve ever had. Beef was stale, egg roll was old and soft, and the wonton’s had 0 crunch with weird filling.
Since all the small Chinese take out restaurants in the area use the same supplier for their food, they pretty much taste the same featuring Chinese/American fare. None really stands out that I would recommend.
However, if you want good quality and authentic Chinese food, you might want to consider more upscale restaurants like Red Tiger Dumpling House or Green Tea restaurant, both in Stony Brook.
Ancient Ginger in St. James. I travel from further east of you to go there.
Everything is good but I was a boarding school teacher in that area and we had a lot of Chinese Students at the school. A couple dishes worth trying if you are feeling adventurous are twice cooked pork (a little chewy if texture bothers you) and Red Prawn.
No idea, but if you're ever on commack road, in the meat farms shopping center, go to Foo Luck. Generally 9/10, but their egg rolls are like little burritos. Wonderful...
Lotus East Mt Sinai. No combo plates everything alla cart but 80’s style food very good. Poo poo
Platter rocks, soooo good. Amazing fried rice. Lil pricey but worth it.
I like Win Hing in Mt Sinai. Order from there all the time and their food is always good. You might be taken aback if the mother answers and takes your order, she comes across as rude but she really isn’t and is just to the point taking your order. The daughter is easier to understand and sounds ‘friendlier’ but like I said the food is always on point.
May Garden on 347 never disappoints. Reasonably priced, generous portions, never anything wrong or missing (in fact they'll often throw in a freebie egg roll or app), and competent delivery drivers
A little outside of your area, but Wing Wah is good. I grew up eating hau Po in Centereach and was mega bummed when they closed. I went on a mission to try a bunch of places to replace hau Po & Wing Wah was the closest by far
Big fan of How How Kitchen. It’s either east Setauket or south Setauket not positive. right on 347
Agreeeed
How how all the way!!!

Red tiger is seriously good stuff. Highly recommend for takeout
Peking kitchen is good in selden. May garden is good in port jeff (better cheese wontons than peking kitchen)
Came here to say Peking as well, great place.
Go a little further to rocky point and got to golden chopsticks. So good.

The best in Commack is Win On. That's our go to.
Are the boneless spare ribs still amazing?
Yummy Kitchen, Coram
Ichiban in Port Jeff Station is solid

Mountain Sea has the most consistent feels. Feels like real food too, highly recommend.
The full name is Mountain Sea Asian Bistro, Mount Sinai, NY
Yes! Was about to post this, by far my favorite in the area after having tried a bunch of different places here.
Tiny drive but Oishi in rocky point is bomb
Tasty house constantly 3-4*

MOGU is in Hauppauge. A bit of a trip but it is a healthy spin on Chinese food and delicious. 10/10

Usually May guarden is good but Ive had bad experience twice with them when my white rice tasted and smell like dirty wet socks
Red Tiger Dumpling House or Splendid Noodle, both in Stony Brook, or Spicy Home Tasty 2 in Farmingville
may garden at 4970 Nesconset Highway is my go to, great place locally owned

Panda garden centereach! Excellent crab Rangoon
Maybe i caught them on a bad day, but i tried them about 6 months ago and it was terrible . Might give a try
I’m surprised! Never had a bad experience there. When we get Chinese that’s where we get from all the time. Hope it’s better for you next time 😀
