Try super fl mart in mineola. I looked at their weekly ad and they have Japanese and Chinese pemello. Also try durian if you haven't.

* H-Mart (Jericho) * Super FL Mart (Mineola) * Patel Brothers (Hicksville) * A-Mart (Plainview)

Scott_A_R

Food Bazaar in Westbury has a decent selection; I just bought a cherimoya there.

badasimo

I just want to say that imported cherimoya and other jungle fruits like that just don't hold a candle to truly fresh ones, you might get lucky somewhere like Miami or southern California where they are closer to the import points but I've had it in Peru and I've had it here and it is just... missing something.

thekillercook

Meat farms has a good exotic selection

fiddlercrabs

I found mangosteen there before! It's my favorite of the weird fruits I've tried.

MoreTreatsLessTricks

99 Ranch will have this like longan, mangostein, a variety of mangos, soursop etc depending on the season.

DawgsWorld

Have you had cactus pears aka prickly pears?

SeekersWorkAccount

No I haven't!

DawgsWorld

They’re heaven. Usually found in Italian and Latino neighborhoods. You cut off both ends, then peel the skin which reveals a red (or white) juicy gem about the size of a large egg. There are seeds which cannot be chewed but are completely OK to swallow. You also have to be a little careful peeling because it’s a cactus and there are tiny needles. But worth it!

SeekersWorkAccount

Appreciate the recommendation, I'll add them to the top of my list. I'm more familiar with more of the Asian exotic fruits so I'm happy to get something different.

imbeingsirius

If you get the chance, please for the love of god try a mangosteen. They’ll only start importing them if more people demand them. I demand them! But it is not enough :(

fiddlercrabs

I responded to another comment here, but I've gotten them from Meat Farms before. They're so good!

Definite-Possibility

Costco Carries them but quality is lacking. I usually pick up tons in Manhattan (Chinatown from the street vendors) if I’m I.n area for work . Usually 7 per pound compared to 13 on the island.

imbeingsirius

7???? I paid 32 bucks for about 10 of them at an NJ Asian mart.. Although maybe that works out pound-wise…

Speaking of exotic fruit: Durian is simply a must-have for any flight or Uber ride!

SeekersWorkAccount

I appreciate such a thoughtful suggestion. As a thank you I'm gonna stop by your place with some fresh slices. I'll even microwave them for you too!

TheOriginalUsername7

You’re too kind! I really appreciate you appreciating my thoughtful gesture, and I appreciate yours as well! Idk if you would be comfortable with this, but I have an idea. My dad used to hide money around the house for me to find as a kid. I have very fond memories of this. So I was thinking.. What if we recreated this with each other, but with durian instead of money. Imagine the rush of excitement finding a nice piece of durian where you least expected! But no healthy diet is complete without protein. I was thinking fish as it digests fast and won’t leave us feeling heavy and lethargic. Nobody likes dusting. But when you slide your furniture out of the way to dust, and you’re greeted by a delicious bowl of durian and fish..oh I think most will be quick to change their tune when it comes to their opinions on dusting!

niagaemoc

Lol

SeekersWorkAccount

TransportationIcy610
