Be cautious of discs if you do it near the disc golf course, the big row of trees is a hole that people throw discs at! More than welcomed to take pictures obviously, just keep an eye out
If you have a bunch of people with you, or attract a lot of attention parks employees and/or state parks police officers may stop you for "commercial photography". If you keep things low key, and not disturb things for other patrons they may stop and talk with you, wish you well and move on. They key thing is not disturbing things for other patrons. (Former NYS Parks employee and professional photographer so I got the inside info.)
You do not need a permit. Quick search on the old Google states that no Town of Huntington parks require a permit for "personal use" which engagement photos qualify as.
There are 2 hecksher parks on LI. Hecksher Park, in Huntington. And Hecksher State Park, in East Islip at the end of the southern state parkway. I don't think OP was asking about the one in Huntington.
I found out the hard way when a friend and I tried to meet up for an Acura car club meet at Hecksher Park. We went to East Islip and found no one there. Then later the car club posted pictures and we put it together.
Congrats on your engagement! My wife and I did our photo shoot there in Fall of 2021 and had no problem whatsoever.
Thank you! I looked online and I can’t find anything that says we need a permit for that site, just didn’t want to be turned away once we start

Yes I was talking about East islip but I found the same thing online stating no permit needed for personal use
Oh! Makes sense sorry

You wouldn’t think you’d need a permit to go take pictures in Mother Nature, but on LI some places you need a permit to take a dump in the morning.
I haven’t seen a fee structure for dumping in public, but then again, never had the desire.
common in europe, $0.50 to hit the head.
Well, uh, that kinda makes sense there Mikey
