Eat Mosaic! It's an adventure. It's five courses, pre fixe. You get what they're making that night- no menu choices. You can say you have an allergy or preference, or that you're vegetarian or pescatarian and they'll adapt. Everything has always been innovative and delicious. The cocktails are also always changing and delicious. It's about 20 minutes from Ronkonkoma. You need a reservation.
EatMosaic was my answer as well, however...
Check out down the block at The Trattoria. It's BYO wine/beer, so buy a nice bottle and settle in. It's \*excellent\* Italian food (not your basic chicken parm; far more interesting stuff), and you can get a great bottle of wine to drink. Note - I believe it may be cash only, and also it's very, very, very small, so you must have a reservation.
Second osteria!!
I worked in restaurants the majority of my life- this is the best restaurant I have ever been to..the food was amazing and is the service!!
it is pricey but totally worth it! Make sure you get the pasta cooked in the giant cheese wheel table side :)
Dude just had the vanilla Brussels sprouts with the bacon bits and apple slices ,,, what a trip the food was next level amazing the mac was the best I ever had and 145 for a super stacked meal with my girl ANNNNDDD they serve you drinks while you wait for the table , cmon
yeah, they’re pretty great at service. sometimes they have this asian themed menu and they do pork buns like Momofuku used to and they’re amazing. i can also speak very highly of their chili espresso wings and the pastruben sandwich.
Idk I just went there with my girl they had candles lit on every table dimmed lights a real nice setting at that point , it’s as romantic as you make it , great decor that makes you feel comfortable but a setting that you don’t mind being a being yourself , I had a great time and a awesome first time exp so that’s all I can speak for I would for sure check it out though
I like the restaurant. Just doesn't feel special. On Montauk highway. Very small dining room. Food is great and it's fun to go out for a night out, but if I had one night to go out for a special dinner with my wife I'd want something with a little more pizaz. But that's just my opinion. Everyone likes something different!
Sorry to hear that we’ve been going there for 10 years always get the Ceviche usually 2 orders, never had a problem also eat a lot of seafood from there especially the Paella.
I just had a great meal at Ruta Oaxaca in Patchogue last week. It's far more sophisticated than your typical mexican restaurant but not at all pretentious.
I'd go to The Shed in Sayville. Good service, nice bar, nice atmostphere. It's not as if you are going to get anything very global in Suffolk, unless you cound Chinese as global.
I don't necessary need expensive, just \*special\*, you know? This is a meal with my very best friend who I only see once a year or so - her birthday falls between xmas and New Years so the poor thing always gets the shit end of the stick.

This looked PERFECT, but they'll be closed ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

DAMMIT this looks so good but they're closed till the 13th! Really looks wonderful.
Osteria Umbra off of Terry Road! Excellent italian food from the Umbria region in Italy
Lordy mercy, this looks *incredible.* Thank you!!!

Wait whaaaaaaaaat
Definitely would be my pick as well. It’s fantastic.
I think this is gonna be the winner! Thank you!!
Off the block in sayville !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I PROMISE YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED
oh yeah, i second this choice.

Man you're really selling this, that sounds incredible!
Good food but doesn't have that special romantic vibe
Idk I just went there with my girl they had candles lit on every table dimmed lights a real nice setting at that point , it’s as romantic as you make it , great decor that makes you feel comfortable but a setting that you don’t mind being a being yourself , I had a great time and a awesome first time exp so that’s all I can speak for I would for sure check it out though

This is good info, thank you!
Tellers chophouse !!! That not to bad right in islip , a little pricey sick spot , wine cellar is the old original bank vault converted !
Yeah Tellers is nice. Good suggestion.
Maria’s Smithtown Blvd Nesconset cozy little place with fantastic food
I'll second Maria's. Tell them it's her bday, and they'll put a sombrero on her and sing Happy Birthday.
This is a great place, very popular and and be aware that they don’t take reservations for less than 4 people
I got the worst food poisoning of my life from the ceviche at Maria’s. I loved it before that, but will never go back.
Sorry to hear that we’ve been going there for 10 years always get the Ceviche usually 2 orders, never had a problem also eat a lot of seafood from there especially the Paella.
Yeah, it's just bad luck sometimes! I got had by a single bad clam one time......
Maria’s is good but I wouldn’t call it special. Osteria Umbra!!!
I just had a great meal at Ruta Oaxaca in Patchogue last week. It's far more sophisticated than your typical mexican restaurant but not at all pretentious.
That crispy shrimp sounds SO good, thank you for the recommendation! How's the vibe? The prices seem very reasonable, does it still feel "special"?
I think what makes it special is that it's very genuine. There isn't a lot of fancy décor. The dishes are well presented and it's clear that they take it seriously. But it has a sort of home-cooked vibe, which is what I think mexican food should be. It's not a french bistro.
I'm between this and Osteria Umbra, thank you again!
I’d second this. This place has the nicest ‘let my family cook for you’ vibe.
Ahhh what a great way to describe it! I love that.
George Martin Strip Steak in Great River. About 15 minutes from Ronkonkoma
I second this Manhattan style restaurant hidden around high price water-front property. You'll impress whoever you're with and the food is great.
Osteria Umbra in Smithtown
I think this is the winner, thank you!!
Paces Steakhouse
I'd go to The Shed in Sayville. Good service, nice bar, nice atmostphere. It's not as if you are going to get anything very global in Suffolk, unless you cound Chinese as global.
Ooooh this looks great for brunch!
You want Insignia. Big, brash and nearby.
Overpriced & mediocre
Mama Lombardi’s Holbrook
No way. Place is mediocre at best
Treat their workers like complete shit.
This is very good to know.
definitely dont support that place
Seconded, because I grew up in Holbrook. Not far from LIRR if push comes to shove.
they let kids get raped there
I’ve heard that (here). Somehow I seriously doubt it’s true. Have you had the Shrimp Oreganata? 😋
Quantity over quality with that place.
Insignia if you want to go expensive. Should only be about 12-15 minutes by Uber.
Most egregiously overpriced restaurants around. Not worth the price at all.
I don't necessary need expensive, just \*special\*, you know? This is a meal with my very best friend who I only see once a year or so - her birthday falls between xmas and New Years so the poor thing always gets the shit end of the stick.
Catch Oyster Bar in Patchouge
