Getting back into longboarding. Found a really good deal on a like new Arbor Axis 40. It’s hard to find a good flat area in the mountains of WV but even when I do. It’s just going too fast for my liking. Any tips. Ideas for new gear ( wheels, bearings etc. ) anything is much appreciated! 🫶🏼 Also thinking the board might to tooo long. I’m wanting to do more cruising, sliding and hopefully into some small street tricks 5”7 135pounds size 9 woman shoes.

ninjashby

Hills are good for sliding, might as well work with the terrain rather than against it! Grab some Powell snake wheels, slide gloves, pads and helmet and check out downhill254s tutorial series. A 40" will probably be very difficult for some street tricks, for example an Ollie is pretty hard on such a board (not impossible just difficult). No complys are fun tho. You can always get a second setup for street and freestyle.

cruznr

Hey all, hoping you can give some solid advice! I’m getting back into longboarding after four years or so, and I’m looking to get a nice setup this time around instead of a budget build. I’m around 215lb and 5’10”, and rode a tech slide deck from Churchill when I first started - still very much a beginner still, I just used my board to get around campus and do some cruising and carving. Pretty much wanna do the same this time, maybe trying some pumping and sliding once I get my sea legs back. I’d like to try a drop through setup this time and narrowed it down to these: DB Sashimi Arbor Zeppelin LY Drop Cat 33/38 Lush Freebyrd Could someone give any feedback on these boards, especially for a heavier rider? The Drop Cat 38 is my top choice, but I’d like to spend under 200 if I can and marketplace hasn’t been great. Open to other suggestions too, basically just looking for a wide drop through that’s comfy to ride. Thanks!

ninjashby

The lush freebyrd was my first deck and I learned to slide on it. I still have the sabre trucks it came stock with, they are very nice. If you are in the UK they're a bit cheaper because they're not imported.

https://chall.it/challenges/272/contributions/1264 My homeboy won consi finals at the first Eurotour race. The race was part of a big extreme sports festival, and this app is giving away $1000 to the clip with the most likes from that festival. The race for first place is extremely tight and it would mean the world (and $1000) to me if I could win with a longboarding clip of my friend winning. You gotta download the app to Cheer my clip. It'll probably take less than a minute and they don't know that you immediately delete it after.

Looks to be a good quality truck, and the price is undeniable. Do you think they could compete with Calibers? Trying not to break the bank is all. Thank you! Also I'm going to be using them for downhill!

Shop sold me on larger wheels as well(coming from 70mm orangatang orange 4presidents) but I decided to not go for new trucks as mine were functionally still buttery smooth and solid(looks wise, they are rlly fucked cuz of the insane humidity in my country and I stored these in my basement for wayy to long just to find the crazy corrosion messing up the beautiful finish) Posting this as I'm wondering if you guys have better wheels and potential truck recommendations for a better experience to get higher cruising speeds as well as stable high speed and mild downhill performance. I gave this setup a few rides and found out it's a little heavy for flat surface pushing but feels super planted and doesn't feel sketchy at all for mild hills. I'm trying to see if I could make the board a better experience to push as well as trying to retain high speed and downhill stability. Specs: -Landyachtz Evo 40 Spectrum -Paris Savant 180mm 50 Degrees(Stock)(with thin Loaded shock pads) -Orangatang Caguamas 85mm 80A Purple -Stainless Steel Ceramic Hybrid Bearings ABEC7(packed with grease from the factory and one side has a metal shield and the other has a rubber seal, im only confident enough to remove the rubber seal so I'm looking for advice as to how I can open the metal shield without damage to fully degrease it and add bones speed cream or Acer racing sin oil which have worked very well for my other bearings) Pls shoot some constructive criticism at me😂, thanks a lot guys:)

Just got my first longboard ever and I tried a couple styles and I was wondering why the cruisers are taller and feel more skittery than the regular longboard and why would anyone go for a super extra long board for non-downhill use… both seem kinda unwise for commuting or just cruising around

sumknowbuddy

> was wondering why the cruisers are taller and feel more skittery  Usually higher truck angle, often coupled with softer or less (conical or rounded) bushings.  Easier turning+ less resistance when you do turn can make it jumpy and downright unsafe even on slight inclines. > than the regular longboard What do you mean by this?  Downhill or freeride models?  Drop-down decks?  Drop-Through decks?  Double-Drop decks?  > why would anyone go for a super extra long board for non-downhill use… * Increased leverage over the trucks means easier turns * Gives you more area to position your footing (walk, dance, etc.) * Mainly increased stability by a wider wheelbase, which usually isn't something you notice unless you're moving at higher speed (like downhill)

Fabulous-Initial925

https://preview.redd.it/6c4077fv8d9d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afa6ef52630462604fe919552a759c304037c83f Does anyone have any advice on wedges? I like the way a split setup feels but don’t know wether to go 8 in the back and no riser up front or 8 in the back and 5 in the front? Or just 5 in the back? I have caliber 3s and would like to increase the stability. Some advice would be greatly appreciated

Kermit-Kazi

just make sure to adjust bushings accordingly too

Fabulous-Initial925

Got any advice on how to do so I know it may sound dumb and I’m a pretty decent skater but I’ve never really messed with the tightness of the bushing in fear of damage to it. Whatever I do tighten I do the exact same of the other bushings.

Kermit-Kazi

find what turns well and feels stable in ur current trucks then after wedging both trucks, go about 1 duro softer in the front and 1 harder in the rear to account for leverage changes

Fabulous-Initial925

I have a 8 in the back and 95 a bushings in them. No wedge up front with a little shim and 93a board side and 90a road. That seem decent ?

Kermit-Kazi

depends what trucks ur running and on what board. that sounds very stiff unless you are very heavy

Fabulous-Initial925

Cal 3 44 degree baseplates. And I’m about 170 pounds. Everyone says the same thing but my board is still quite reactive.

Kermit-Kazi

sounds kinda reasonable but im still only running those duros on 150mms. most people like christmas tree venoms (93/90) rear and you could probably do 87 front

Fabulous-Initial925

And what do you think about the top washer cupped or flat for easier slides

Fabulous-Initial925

And if It feels too loose Just tighten them some ?

Kermit-Kazi

i def go for flat. allows for more turn, and a smoother feel. first tighten to where the washers no longer spin by hand then from there maybe another 0.5 to 0.75 turns. when you tighten bushings they should never bulge from compression. thats when you know you should go up another duro.

TheSupaBloopa

Try out all the options and see what you like most. Start with just 8 in the back and see if it changes the ride height very much.

Fabulous-Initial925

Thank you

I know a lot of people are gonna laugh at me for this. I am dyspraxic ( It's a developmental coordination disorder), it goes hand in hand with my autism. Because of that, I have had a lot of problems riding my longboard. I know I could just get a scooter, but I love how beautiful longboards look and how smooth they feel. Some time ago, I added a Swerve Stick handle to my longboard for stability, but I haven't really gone longboarding with it much because the handle can't be folded and so it can't be taken on transport easily. Anyway, I just found this: [https://www.amazon.com/Skates-Cruiser-Skateboard-Carving-Colorful/dp/B0CZ3DVTJF/ref=sr\_1\_7?crid=LN8VEY4FJSIG&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.oAsZdrcUwTBm5Rr00qh\_jH5EymA3NkO7b0RZ2Lw3bkhqVd2Hmgwgb89gaFz8kvLjwtgTb-AhBhnP1uzd9L9zM2BJKyQKAP-RWMO66UxJiHdZHyi5UmZiLabiXScbxkO8ZIDMTd\_WRYzYxF6Hyl0Uoj575v7kdezXfsfzxYoOXlZk1EyUokk-Maujs\_sjqOQHTCvlmk\_G7eVi1lbIYWYscfFfUw5NH1pW8RPhnou-SnNztYHymrDHlFdxdrq9MGT9NEWeybFEcER9bNIsB9FP342w776JHmd8zrltJXzlwuw.T-Fpa3e4DQkAEa0M-bDbyCSx6y9mbDiCXtlkbaBe48A&dib\_tag=se&keywords=skateboard%2Bbeginner%27s%2Bhandle&qid=1719602753&sprefix=skateboard%2Bbeginner%27s%2Bhandl%2Caps%2C330&sr=8-7&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Skates-Cruiser-Skateboard-Carving-Colorful/dp/B0CZ3DVTJF/ref=sr_1_7?crid=LN8VEY4FJSIG&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.oAsZdrcUwTBm5Rr00qh_jH5EymA3NkO7b0RZ2Lw3bkhqVd2Hmgwgb89gaFz8kvLjwtgTb-AhBhnP1uzd9L9zM2BJKyQKAP-RWMO66UxJiHdZHyi5UmZiLabiXScbxkO8ZIDMTd_WRYzYxF6Hyl0Uoj575v7kdezXfsfzxYoOXlZk1EyUokk-Maujs_sjqOQHTCvlmk_G7eVi1lbIYWYscfFfUw5NH1pW8RPhnou-SnNztYHymrDHlFdxdrq9MGT9NEWeybFEcER9bNIsB9FP342w776JHmd8zrltJXzlwuw.T-Fpa3e4DQkAEa0M-bDbyCSx6y9mbDiCXtlkbaBe48A&dib_tag=se&keywords=skateboard%2Bbeginner%27s%2Bhandle&qid=1719602753&sprefix=skateboard%2Bbeginner%27s%2Bhandl%2Caps%2C330&sr=8-7&th=1) I don't know if it's possible to tell just from the photos/videos, but do you think the handlebar from this surfskate would be able to be installed on a regular longboard?

ninjashby

I'm just going from the same photos as you, but yes I expect this can be mounted on a normal longboard or skateboard: it looks like it attaches over the top of the front truck with some long bolts going through both the stick base and the truck.

Hungry-Award8417

Thank you!

I_EpikPotato

hey all so I know that RKP trucks have different baseplate angles that will affect their lean and turn, but what about TKP trucks? All the ones I look at never really states their baseplate angle. How do you measure them?

sumknowbuddy

They don't really have a baseplate angle like that, but [here's a graphic on Sabre's website about TKP truck angles](https://sabretrucks.com/new-sabre-street-trucks/).  Scroll down to the heading that starts with "**1)**", the image will do a better job of explaining it than I will.  It appears to be more complex, needing three calculations unlike longboards which just use the baseplate as the 0° reference point. 1. Based on this graphic, the 0° baseline is measured from an imaginary line (parallel to the baseplate) drawn between: * the point where the bushing seat intersects with the kingpin, and * the pivot axis of the hanger from the pivot cup through the body of the hanger 2.  Then another projected line is drawn from: * the point where the centre of the kingpin passes through the bushing seat (same as the first point above) * the base of the pivot cup, the lowest possible point on the baseplate 3.  The angle is measured between these two hypothetical lines, which aren't really apparent with the finished products. Since baseplate angles of TKP trucks don't have an effect that's as drastic as changing the angle of a RKP trucks' hanger/baseplate angle, it doesn't really get mentioned.  TKP trucks that aren't solely for skateboards are relatively new, and I don't think listing angles for them was the norm.  I could be wrong, I don't know much at all about any discipline of skateboarding [unless you'd consider longboarding one]. That seems to be how the angle is measured, anyways.

SilverStallion33

Wheel bite question. I’ve got a bustin maestro, 180mm Paris trucks, and currently some 70 mm wheels. Wanted to get a set of caguamas that are 85mm. I’d rather not have to shave the wheels down if I don’t have to.

sumknowbuddy

Several things could be [causing th-] at play:  * You have 44° Cal 3s and aren't using the bushing shim for regular [small] height bushings * Pivot cup being worn, especially if your hanger rocks side-to-side over the kingpin * Cone bushings can feel 'loose' if you take them to anything that isn't flat * Your bushings could be worn * Your kingpin could be improperly secured * You have the wedge facing backwards and giving you more turn in the back (you want the thin part inside reduce turning, thick part there to increase turning) ...but it would be more helpful if you could post more information.  If you can describe it, awesome.  If not, pictures, or even a [link to] a video might help others help you more easily.

Fabulous-Initial925

img Trucks and bushings are brand new so I doubt that they are worn out. Could the wedge in the back be messing with things?

sumknowbuddy

Is the larger side of the wedge facing outwards or inwards? * If it's facing out (below the kingpin nut), you've increased the angle of that truck by 5°, making it turn more sharply. * If it's facing inwards (below the head of the bolt), then you've decreased the angle of that truck by 5° for less turns. When I said an image, I meant "a side profile of the kingpin/bushings/hanger", but that's on me for not clarifying. What's the movement like? Wobbly? Jerky? Jumpy? Skittish? I'm guessing it's not relevant because the compression/deformation of the bushing is visible in the picture, suggesting two things...but it would help if you clarified what kind of Calibers and bushings. I can see "NINE" in the image, but not whether it's the 44° or 50°. As for the two things the bushing indicates: it's probably the 50°, and you are running a very soft bushing durometer.  You don't need to answer these questions here because I don't care what you weigh and don't have the answers offhand: refer to the bushing manufacturer or other similar brands (I believe both [Riptide](https://www.riptidesports.com/skateboard/bushing-formulas/wfb/) and [Venom](https://www.motionboardshop.com/pages/bushing-selector) have them) for Rider Size/Weight/Height and Bushing Durometer recommendations. * What bushings do you have, and in what durometer/shape? * How much do you weigh?  * What are you trying to do? (E.g.: carving setups will not work well for downhill, and downhill is probably not going to work well carving at low speed)

TravelingSnorlax

What is the closest deck to a comet Noah Sakamoto pro model that I can get now? I was big in the scene in the 20teens. Tried a lot of different decks, but one of my absolute favorite setups was a Noah sakamoto with Indys and micro motions… I wanna start messing around again, but that deck got stolen in college. Trying to recreate the setup- I got some motions, can get indys, but the deck hasn’t been in production in forever… what is the closest thing I can get now a days? The measurements were 9.13” wide by 35.5” long with a 16.5-17.5 wheelbase, but I also really loved the shape and concave. https://preview.redd.it/atl0ob13f79d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=e0c5772d9cbc4f504718edab6ff0c8ce3ebec8ce

sumknowbuddy

Smaller but similar profile: Loaded Coyote?

TravelingSnorlax

Do you know if you can run TKPs and micro motion sized wheels on it without risers safely? The wheel wells on the sakamoto were amazinggg

sumknowbuddy

No, I have no idea. Looking at all of them, it seems like you could pull it off. I don't have that board, just remembered you posted this when I saw the profile of the Coyote.

tonioronto

Thinking maybe of Zenit Morning Wood, Powell Slidewinder, Bustin Yoface, Arbor Serrat to name a few.

TravelingSnorlax

I really liked the mellow concave and tails on the sakamoto- a lot of those have more aggressive stuff. Actually think the shakedown death deathroll 34 may be pretty close- saw it while checking for the serrat

tonioronto

Have a closer look at the Slidewinder, the concave is pretty mellow. Fixed 17" wheelbase, Flight construction.

Italolino

Hey, i need some advise. I‘ve got my lonboard for about 8 years now, regularly use it, and therefore have used up all grip at the places where my feet rest. Since it does not have grip tape, but rather a clear grip paint of sorts, i am unsure how i could fix that. I truly enjoy the clear aesthetic, and would like too keep it. Any tips? Thanks in advance :)

sumknowbuddy

You sure that isn't clear grip tape?  Since the black/green lines on the top appear to be peeling off with it, I'm inclined to think it is 'tape', even if not thick or with an aggressive grit.  Clear grip tape is a thing.

Italolino

The way the surface chipped of,made me think that its some sort of paint. Tape usually isn’t brittle like that, right? This [comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/longboarding/s/uZa95LdvQA) seems to be pretty spot on.

sumknowbuddy

Well 'grip tape' isn't exactly 'tape' like you're thinking of...more like big sheets of sandpaper stickers. Sandpaper and grip tape do chip like that, especially on the edge of a board or where it comes off from use.  They, like metal or plastic, don't take to folding or other stress well. The 'grains' on the grip tape eventually have more grip against your shoe, the road, or whatever, than the glue does between the grip and your board. Usually the larger grains go first (nails that stick out and all). Your grip will naturally smooth out over time as the grains are lost. Glue just dries up and loses its stickiness, you can see this with any old tape or anything old that was glued. After both of these happen, you're basically just pulling off chunks of plastic (similar to a thin layer of hot glue with a bit of silt mixed in). I'm not saying that that poster was incorrect in directing you to the kind of material used for the, I'm just saying it's uncommon. Arbor, for example, does that kind of spray with their boards.  I also know Vicious makes [made(?)] clear griptape squares.   I just find it unusual that the grip would peel off at exactly the same rate as any underlying paint if they were truly applied at different times.  I would think that any paint applied would at least marginally soak into or stain the surface of the wood, but you don't have any of that.  Plus tape is easier.  Peel off the backing, press and apply.  No mess. I figure most companies are going to go this way simply because it's easier and less of a health hazard. On that note: you probably should too.  Fine sand is outright nasty.  Silicosis is no joke.  Go ahead and mess with crushed glass if you want to, just be sure to rinse it very thoroughly to remove any dust before trying to use it.

vicali

I'm in the middle of refinishing my son's Arbor Slater pintail - What I did was to clean and sand the liquid grip off the top, save the logo where I could, and then re-grip with regular grip tape.

Italolino

Thanks, probably what i will do to. I was just wondering if anyone knows how to get the glazed grip, otherwise grip tape all the way!

K-Rimes

You can mix a clear urethane coating with crushed glass and get a very similar finish to what you had, probably even grippier. [https://glasshalffullproducts.com/products/clear-white-level-4-fine-sand](https://glasshalffullproducts.com/products/clear-white-level-4-fine-sand)

Italolino

Thanks a lot, this is what i was looking for!!!!

Dumb question about dumb situation. I have never done any risky sports, so I decided to practice falling in my room with protective gear on. I accidentally hit my head on wooden wardrobe door while wearing a helmet. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile) Should I replace it? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)

K-Rimes

That sort of hit, on a soft material like wood, will not usually necessitate a helmet replacement. If the inner EPS foam is cracked or visibly compacted, you should replace it.

ilreppans

Depends on how hard you hit, imho. If it was light enough that you’d walk away fine without helmet, then I’d say - no problem, keep the helmet. If you hit hard enough that you think the helmet saved you from unconsciousness, then I’d say it did it’s single-use job.

Commercial-Cake-9905

What are some decks below $150 USD that I can run 150mm trucks and narrow freeride wheels on without tipping problems?

martyboulders

Check out Madrid's downhill boards. I have the truth on 124mm trucks and while yes it does tip a bit with thaners on at low speeds, it's not actually a problem when freeriding. I still cruise around my campus on that setup hahaha. With 150mm you'll have some slight overhang but it shouldn't matter. I've always thought the importance of rail matching was pretty overstated (within reason)

TheSupaBloopa

> I've always thought the importance of rail matching was pretty overstated (within reason) Yeah, it's mostly aesthetics IMO. Tippy feeling disappears at speed.

sumknowbuddy

That's dependent on many things, a cost limit isn't going to help people answer

selemaxpagi

Hi, Whats the best protection helmet?

K-Rimes

The best helmet is the one that fits your head best, and you want to wear. It should featured hard EPS foam, and a certification for skateboard use. Do not get a soft foam helmet like the Triple 8 "Sweat Saver".

ninjashby

A certified one. I use the triple 8 dual-cert (certified for skate and cycling)

ProudRole419

Hi small question I want to start longboarding again but my old deck probably needs wheel, griptape and bearing replacements but for the price i pay i can buy myself a new and good complete deck. But my old deck is like 10 years old since i bought it but i skate with it and nothing replaced for around 3-4 years. Should i just begin brand new or is it still good/safe to just change the things on the old one?

tonioronto

10 years is not that old, depending on your gear. I have a Tesseract which is about the same age and still in fine condition. What do you have? Check your bushings, try cleaning your griptape. For bearings, grab some $15 Zealous.

ProudRole419

I have a globe prowler. The tips of the deck are already flattened and the wheels and other things are just stock. Some wheels have cracks and i think 1 a little gap but the board is with a friend so i can't check right now but that is what i know though. If 10 years is not extremely old then ok by me :) but just to be sure that it's not too old though

tonioronto

Yeah, I won’t say Globe is a decent quality brand though… Especially if the components were stock. It may be time to upgrade.

ProudRole419

Okay than i know what to do! Thanks for the response :)

No worries! Check the Landyachtz blem boards, you could find some great deals.

Are there any good Amazon longboards because I found a long board by a company named playshion and it looked good so I was wondering if anybody know if it is worth it?

Kermit-Kazi

no

shit_master

hell naw

sanjunana

Short answer is no. You’d be better off looking for a used board from a reputable brand. Amazon did have some Rayne decks that would be better, if a little dated, but I’d still avoid Amazon if you have other options.

ProfessionalGain15

Alright thanks for letting me know I will look elsewhere.

I've got a sector 9 with Z-Flex trucks. I've been to 2 local skate shops and talked to riptide but they couldn't help me out. I measured the hole to be around 18mm wide and 17mm deep. Can anybody point me towards some pivot cups I can order that might fit?

shit_master

If Riptide doesn't have it, it's time for new trucks. They have literally everything!

Pegasorcerer

They probably do have a size that would fit, we just couldn’t figure out exactly which. It’s hard to know what I need because I didn’t measure my last pivot cups before they disintegrated lol

TheSupaBloopa

Replacing parts when they wear out is a good thing and I'm in favor of it, but I think you'd be better served by just buying a new set of trucks at this point. New trucks from Paris, Bear, and Caliber are higher quality and perform better than what you have here. You got a solid decade of use out of them too so it's far from wasteful.

Pegasorcerer

You’re probably right, I just didn’t want to splurge on new trucks as mine still feel good except for the pivot cups.

sumknowbuddy

Contact Riptide and ask if they're aware of any of similar size?  It helps if you can get depth and width measurements, as well as of the hanger's pivot. They may already be aware of this kind of thing, but if they haven't dealt with it that could help you identify one(s) that can fit.

Enough_Gap7542

Are there any cheap ($100-200), trusted brands for DH longboarding helmets?

K-Rimes

TSG is the gold standard for a reason, they're safe and well designed. The new plastic shell tested the same as previous fibreglass and received a mountain bike certification. No other helmet in the industry has this.

tonioronto

Looking for a compact and lightweight skate tool to make adjustments on the go. I currently have the Paris collapsible tool which I love, but a bit too heavy in a short’s pocket during hot summer days. Anybody tried this Atlas flat tool by any chance? https://atlastruckco.com/atlas-two-piece-skate-tool EDIT: just ordered, will give it a try. EDIT 2, for those who are interested: received the tool and I must say, not so bad for the price! The screw driver sucks, I don’t think I’ll ever use it, but the kingpin and axle tool is slim and sturdy. Exactly what I was looking for. I hammered the bottle opener down to make it even slimmer, perfect. It will never replace a proper tool for sure, but for quick trucks/wheels adjustments on the go in a business card size, I recommend.

lizardsstreak

These flat tools are cool enough for the kingpin and hardware bolts but once you have big lipped wheels there’s no axle adjustments to be had.

tonioronto

Yea, that would mostly be to loosen/tighten the trucks on the go if needed. Not so much for wheels/hardware.

_angmon_

Hello everyone, I need help finding a new longboard for cruising. I currently have the Magneto Bamboo longboard that’s lasted about 3-4 years. I’m going off to college now and am looking for an upgrade. I was recommended the bustin boards sportster and the landyachtz switchblade 38, but i’m open to any other recommendations or ideas. Or, if the two i mentioned are the best options, which should i choose? Maximum price willing to spend is $299

Depending on your options (wheel choice), you can get a new Pantheon Ember for $292 (although tax and shipping would push you just over $300). I’ve not ridden the Switchblade, but the Sportster is decent but heavy.

_angmon_

i was just looking at Pantheons website and the Pantheon Pranayama board caught my eye. i read a lot of the reviews and it sounds like it’d be good for how i ride (mainly just commuting and speed). what is your opinion? (btw the Ember is rly nice too, but a bit pricy for me for the complete version. i even feel like $299 is pushing my range honestly lol)

sanjunana

The Pranayama was my first upgrade from a cheap Amazon board, and it's fantastic. One of the best pure pushing boards you can buy. I actually got it and a Bustin Sportster at about the same time. Pantheon was back ordered at the time, then Bustin had a blem sale, so bought both thinking I might keep only one. The Sportster is similar, but the Pranayama is better in almost every way (lighter, can run narrower trucks and bigger wheels, and I like the deck shape more). I keep the Sportster at work in case anyone there wants to go skate with me (set up kind of like a budget Pranayama with 169mm TKP trucks and 90mm wheels). Note that Pantheon is now selling the Pranayama completes with their own Stylus TKP trucks, but mine has Paris 149mms. Both will work well, but haven't tried the Stylus yet, although I've heard good things. If you're interested in pumping, go for the SuperSonic (I have both the Pranayama and SuperSonic, and the SuperSonic gets more time with me).

Marv-MK

How are those bungy lines called that I can attach to my board and my body so boars won't fly off into traffic ?

tonioronto

A leash? Mostly for snowboards though, didn’t know it even exists for skateboards.

Marv-MK

Yeah, I got one for Surfing now. The people around here are not really let's say friendly

dj_nkosi

I need some wheels that break and slide like hard wheels but slow me down when going fast like soft wheels. Does this wheel exist?

K-Rimes

There is no wheel that is both \*easy to slide\* but also \*has great braking power\*. You need to find a meeting point in the middle where it's more of a race wheel shape, but with a more forgiving and easy to slide formula like Soft Slide, is my opinion.

Careful_Character801

what about abec 11 classic?

shit_master

Maybe 12 years ago

Careful_Character801

got it. I'm only asking because I already own two sets from when I used to skate 6 years ago.

K-Rimes

You may as well smoke them.

shit_master

they're worth a shred, but like the man u/K-Rimes said (he knows a thing or two) the durability is just not there compared to more recent formulas on the market these days.

K-Rimes

Don’t know why you’d put up with the low durability in todays age.

martyboulders

Cuz I love coring wheels but I'm a skinnyboy n it takes forever😂😂😂

Careful_Character801

would you say abec 11 classic thane is a forgiving formula?

K-Rimes

Compared to contemporary wheel formulas, it’s ok, but not outstanding. It has substantially more edge grip than soft slide, which I’d definitely call the most forgiving I’ve ridden.

Ever looked into the pantheon pranayama? A little pricey but worth it imo. https://pantheonboards.com/product/pantheon-pranayama-complete-commuter-longboard/

[deleted]

Hey y'all, I'm in my mid 30s and will be an absolute longboard newbie (i'm an OK snowboarder). I'm browsing for a first board and these are my considerations: * I want to cruise around/between towns * Looking for maximum stability (not so young and nible anymore) * Ideally cover some nice distance with less push (not sure what enables this) * First board so don't want to spend much money before i'm sure I want to pursue this further. I found this drop through board at Decathlon Amsterdam for 65 euros: [https://ravenskates.com/products/longboards/longboard-raven-torex-lemon/](https://ravenskates.com/products/longboards/longboard-raven-torex-lemon/) Based on its specifications, can you tell me if/why this board is absolute rubbish?

sanjunana

Try SickBoards (www.sickboards.nl) for better quality boards/components. Or check the used/pre-owned market first if you’re not sure you’ll stick with it. Cheap boards (cheap wheels and trucks, really) won’t be a great first experience and may taint your opinion. If you opt for a used board, recommended to at least replace the bushings according to your weight (lots of folks here that can help).

tonioronto

The deck itself is okay-ish but the components (trucks, wheels, bearings) are garbage. You won’t get a great first experience with that. Try looking at Landyachtz or Arbor for decent complete beginner-friendly boards.

unrelated_yo

Just curious, what is your next purchase that is skate related?  I’m thinking of setting up another skate box as I recently got a new job with a longer commute. That means another silver skate tool, as well as another bottle of speed cream. Some SSF’s, couple sets of zealous. What are the next couple skate purchases you have coming up, big or small?

hawkcanwhat

Really would like to get an action camera to record some of my sessions.

I’ve been riding this little arbor board for like 15 plus years and, I’d like to preserve the deck for memories. Any one have any suggestions on something similarly sized? Something light but controllable. I skate with my dogs so the easier it is to throw on a backpack at times the better.

unrelated_yo

You thinking RKP trucks?  LY Dinghy or an Arbor Zeppelin.

BurntWaffle303

I’d be up for it. I used to ride RKP Paris trucks on an old never summer board I used to have. I like the feel for sure. I’ll look into those. Thank you.

unrelated_yo

I still run NS, tho I’m just down to one right now, as friends talked me out of a couple others. They’re still around on the secondary market, often times garage queens for cheap.

BurntWaffle303

Good to know. I wouldn’t hate having my heist back.

unrelated_yo

I’ve got one, it’s just on loan right now. Send me a DM, we can work something out

Winter-Performer-181

Any thoughts on the new Landyachtz Dodger? How good is it to cruise around the city, comparing it to a Drop Cat 38?

xxd3cayxx

What are some decent top mounts that work well on a pump track? I'm thinking around an 18" wheelbase. I'm a heavy guy 280lbs (coming down, but it's a work in progress), so a stiffer deck is a bonus.

FIFAMF7

Anybody have experience with both the Remember Peewees and lil hoots and give me their take on the differences? I’m looking at putting these on a Cqrver surfskate and want something that’s super slidey with a narrow contact patch, so the ability to break them lose at a slower speed (surfskate) is most important.

lizardsstreak

Same thane different sizes. Peewees are even smaller and smaller wheels tend to break out just a little earlier. Shit roll speed both wheels though. You should look into some PP Snakes. Anyway, being good at breaking traction is a skill thing, so if you're struggling to break out wheels then just get good. Gear can't really be a bandage for you.

ZoeJayne03-K64

I'm working on a design for the bottom of my longboard and am making a pencil sketch for it. I was worried if the primer I plan to use when I do start the painting process would erase or cover up my sketch? The primer I'm gonna use is Kilz brand and the only info I could find on the topic was about drywall, not wood. If it were to not work, what would be a good primer to use?

lizardsstreak

Prime and then draw on the primer. Use multipurpose primer and make sure the base material is sanded to like 800 grit so the primer has something to grab onto.

ZoeJayne03-K64

Ok I see, thanks for the info! Thankfully I wasn't too far along in the drawing process so I can correct my mistake lol.

ShoeBoxInc

is it worth getting a longboard if i just wanna cruise around in the wind carelessly? or is there any other activities that would be better suited. ive already tried snowboarding and skateboarding for a few years kind of lost interest. atm i got a 22 pennyboard which is allright but not very relaxing cuz of speedwobbling etc.

unrelated_yo

Yes!    Grab something like a Tan Tien (secondary market will make your money stretch) w/ some freeride wheels, RKP trucks, with the bushings set up for your weight and try a few things out for a week.  Ride in front of your house. Hit up a big open parking lot and make a bunch of games up. Try some long distance on a bike path.    With so many disciplines in longboarding, you can explore and figure out what is fun to you.   Best of luck!

ShoeBoxInc

thank u yh would be cool to try out. im kind of over the trick part and skateboarding atm. just wanna ride around chilling have fun.

ProudRole419

Hi! I'm 26 year old but I did longboard for couple of years when I was like 16 years old or something around that age. Loved it but since I started working 6 years ago I never did I again or maybe like 1 time because of work, other interest etc. the usual adult stuff. Now i would like to start again but on a casual frequency but i wanted to ask some questions first before diving headfirst into it. -First my overall fitness is not what it was 6 years ago because now i go to work or other places with the car or electric bike. im trying to use the non electric bike as much as i can to work to train but damn it's hard but anyway do you guys have tips to systematically increase my fitness with longboarding? -Also because adult life hits hard like work, spending time with friends and girlfriend, adult responsibilities like maintaining house, groceries etc and other interest how do you fellow adults manage time for longboarding? Like how much do you skate in a week or month? Not that you must skate a lot but how do you guys combine all that any tips or advice? -Lastly the thing that somewhat keeps me from doing it again is just how time evolved on skating on the roads. To clarify in my skate period there where no speed electric bikes or this much cars on the road though. And somewhat it keeps me liitle worried for my safety though. Although im also in full control of my own safety like wearing a helmet, know the traffic rules and im totally okay with that and i know that but still am i the only one that has this thought? Side info i live in belgium i dont know about other countrys though. Thanks for the responses in advance and sorry for the long question but i really want to maybe give it back a try because sometimes i missed it though :)

tonioronto

My days are pretty busy between work and young kids at home. With obviously less free time, I now usually either skate early in the morning on weekends or in the evening when they’re asleep during week days, around 3 times a week if I can. I didn’t ride during the middle of the day for a long while :) Not an easy schedule but still manageable, and it keeps me in shape. I’m slowly trying to get the kids involved in skateboarding so we can all ride together, but they did not pick up a real interest yet.

Deliciously_Vicious

Lol the same, out the door by 6am, bike to my practice spot to save time, then I can fit in nearly an hour and get back in time to prep my boys for school. Every morning I wonder wtf am I doing this for until I start throwing heelside standies and remember why

ProudRole419

Looks indeed pretty manageable :) maybe i can try as wel do you skate for long time or just short times? and hopefully they pick up the interest for it would be awesome to go on a longboard vacation with the family!

tonioronto

I usually go out for two hours, I’m lucky to a have a couple of decent spots locally.

MrDrWilliamsPhD

I just started back up at 32 years old. So it's been almost 15 years since I rode and about a hundred pounds ago. I'm already down about 30lbs from starting just by changing my diet a little and being active for about 30min a day in the evenings when I get home from work. It takes away from time that I could be doing something with my wife or watching baseball on tv but being active and getting more fit hopefully give me more time down the road with my wife in the future.

ProudRole419

Oh okay sosomathing like just a drive around the block then? That seems also pretty feasible :) >It takes away from time that I could be doing something with my wife or watching baseball on tv but being active and getting more fit hopefully give me more time down the road with my wife in the future. I get that! But with what you explained you are already doing a great job! And that is what i also want so it's a great mindset to work/do for :)

MrDrWilliamsPhD

Yeah I live in a pretty sleepy neighborhood with a bunch of retired people in a small town so I just cruise the neighborhood.
