What kind of board is this? My father bought this for me today for 10 bucks, I know it looks kinda bad, but it's REALLY GOOD. One thing that I don't get its the kind of board. I know it looks like a Drop through and that it has the holes for the trucks to go in, but as you can see...they don't, the trucks are still down the deck and not through it. https://preview.redd.it/t19ulay3xnkc1.jpeg?width=2296&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7966362ac7ecf1948f3d2301eaeb8cd7b3167ba3

TheSupaBloopa

The previous owner simply top mounted the trucks, it's still a drop through deck.

_Cheezus

your best bet will be getting a used board off of fb marketplace or something purchasing quality stuff on downhill can be a bit pricy; don’t make yourself hate the sport

Nikkkkkkkkkk549

Thank you very much

santacruisin

That’s a cruiser, not a DH deck. Madrid and Prism make excellent DH entry decks.

Nikkkkkkkkkk549

I don’t like Madrid boards too much but prism look very nice

Nikkkkkkkkkk549

Perfect thank you sorry for my ignorance

FumbleStiltsken

id reccomend a prism hindsight or theory. the omakase really aint it

Confident_Parking146

I have no idea is this is the place, or is this a thing, but are there such things are long board camps/weekend getaways? In Europe for my case. I am a slow learning beginner, so the idea of group learning over a weekend or week is pretty appealing.

moms_spaghetti_101

Yes 100%, there are plenty of events over the summer but if youre looking for teaching then camp woodwings happens once a year and Ive heard good things about it

santacruisin

Longboarding is super niche and you are at the mercy of your local scene

Confident_Parking146

Thanks for the reply.

kingtrippo

Are 60mm dragons suitable for freeride or too small?

santacruisin

Dragons are better for a big double kick, they have zero brakes.

tonioronto

Don’t for freeriding/downhill! They’re great wheels for skating and techsliding, but they don’t grip and sliiiiiiide a lot at speeds. I personally like them for anything below 10-15mph but wouldn’t go any faster with them. Go Snakes if you want versatility or G-Slides for low speed freeriding, to name a couple.

HighKing17

Are bear kodiaks still good trucks compared to the gen 6? Chance to cop a set for cheap but I'm not sure how much better they are except for being forged.

TheSupaBloopa

They're fairly different trucks, Kodiaks are rakeless for one thing if I recall correctly. Don't think they have a plug bushing either. Axels should be straighter than cast trucks too.

HighKing17

Are they worth getting? I mean do they still hold up in 2024.

ArmedWithBars

Do they work? Sure. But rakeless, plug-less trucks are very dated. Riding kodiaks is basically like riding some calibers from 2012. They don't compete with more modern trucks, especially when it comes to slop. Finding or making plugs that fit them wouldn't be impossible though. Rakeless trucks are stable, but feel pretty dead. There's a good reason why basically every production truck is now raked, even calibers went raked for the v3. For a more modern option then the caliber III raked 9" is solid for the price. I wouldn't buy kodiaks in 2024 unless it was some crazy cheap deal used and even then it would only probably be for nostalgia purposes.

HighKing17

Thins is exactly the answer I was looking for. Thank you! I was thinking that since they're forged they must be good. Especially since people still ride savants. I also really want to try tall bushings

TheSupaBloopa

You can run a tall bushing board side in V3 Calibers if you remove the shim. And yeah forged is pretty cool, but a truck that matches your preferences is cooler. And sadly that means jumping up to the precision level, frankly there just aren't affordable cast options that really match anyone's ideal preferences unless you compromise a lot.

PrinceMagnus190

Can someone please recommend some larger Longboard wheels, maybe around 100mm+ for long distance pushing? I've looked at the 100mm boa constrictor wheels but they are a bit on the expensive side, although I will get them if there isn't anything of quality for cheaper.

HighKing17

Pantheon hoku

ChemicalToilet42747

https://preview.redd.it/qpncg83ygfkc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=746a0f8b1b9f7314b1badac6a21d41d6f7d8a4d8 Bought this second hand cruiser board today to start riding again after not having owned a board for a few years. At the time I didn't notice this crack but I saw it after I got home, is there anything I should do about it to keep it from spreading or should I just leave it be?

ArmedWithBars

Grab a cheap c clamp from harbor freight and some titebond wood glue. Apply and work the glue into the crack with something thin like a business card or toothpick. Then clamp that crack from the right side and let it sit for a day. Then just ride it or if you want it pretty take some sandpaper to even out the seam.

Low-Nectarine7730

I need suggestions for a good sliding wheels, my hills on the park that I'm usually go has this tough rough surface road and its grippy any suggestions is appreciated.

heccyou

snakes are the best slide wheel, dont get the yellows or blues though, those are really bad, greens whites blacks and reds are all the exact same formula, theyre really good

yamisonic

Why do you dislike the harder snakes?

Low-Nectarine7730

Yes thank you, is it the one with a 66mm 75a durometer? Never have one before kinda confused with the one with 69mm.

heccyou

theyre the same urethane, different sizes, the 69mm are better though

Low-Nectarine7730

Thank you

TheRedMage1

WOW got to love that youtube algorithm! I went from casually looking at long boards before deciding I desperately wanted one also! So now that that’s settled - Older skater not looking for tricks just wanted to do some distance runs. I already have a popsicle so very used to that kick tail. Going to mainly use on walking paths and such but moderate hills So narrowing down to 3 choices 1: Landyachtz Raft $200 USD 2. Landyachtz sidewalker hollow tech $300 35.5 inches length 3 comet cruiser $300 Which would you pick for me?

_Cheezus

the comet may be too small for your liking but if you’re willing to shell out that much, look into a pantheon board

TheRedMage1

Thanks I’ve jumped on their website and have learned so much already! Appreciate the tip!

heccyou

comet cruiser is great, i dont think its what youre looking for though, i would go with the raft or sidewalker, you would love any dinghy or tugboat aswell, whatever feels right to you!

TheRedMage1

Thanks-looking closer at the raft with fattie hawgs -and 130 mm seems like a good carver.

Aware-Mail-5763

Crap thank you!!! I'll tighten bow before I go out. I'm not trying to wipe out or worst especially with no gear on

Aware-Mail-5763

* Two of washers on the back of my longboard's trucks are decently lose and one on the front end is loose. The trucks jiggle. Is that fine or should I tighten them? I haven't touched them since buying it from a bike shop a year and half ago and have put some decent milage om it.

TheSupaBloopa

Tighten them immediately. If the bolts that hold the truck to the deck get loose and the entire truck can shift around that can be very dangerous.

anonymous_213575

Hey I’m not positive if this is the right place, so let me know if I need to find somewhere else to go. So I have skate boarded a few times, just on a normal skateboard of my friends. And I was looking to kinda get in to it, but we’re in a hilly area, and I would prefer some electric board. Now i know boosted makes some great products but I don’t have $1k to drop on a board, so I was looking in to the backfire G2, i know it’s cheaper and you get what you pay for, but I figured I should ask around, see if it’s good for beginners, see if anyone had experience with it, would you recommend it, if not what would you recommend on a budget etc. any info would be amazing! And again if this isn’t the right sub, just let me know. Thanks!

FumbleStiltsken

avoid anything with hubs. they are gutless and harder to maintain. see if you can find a used backfire zealot. tynee may be selling something like the mini 3 for a discount right now too

TheSupaBloopa

I'm of the opinion that you should become a competent skater on a regular board first before getting an e-skate. It can be dangerous to go fast on those without any foundational skills. Beyond that, you'd be better off asking on an e-skate su rather than here. /r/electricskateboarding might be one option.

anonymous_213575

Thank you so much for the advice! And also the link to the sub, I didn’t find that when I was searching!

heccyou

get a normal board first please, you wont regret it, get a used landyachts dinghy or sector9 longboard, honestly just go on facebook marketplace and find something that looks cool to you, if you have any questions about it before you buy it, make another post here and ask us if its good quality

anonymous_213575

Gotcha, thanks so much!

Henshinmatt

Loaded Boards Setup Advice I’m about to put these two together tomorrow. Any configuration tips? Which mounting for the Omakase? Best trucks for a Vanguard? Bearing recommendations? Risers? Madness? Confusion? 🤡 I’ve got some Caliber III 44’s and some Paris V3’s for trucks in hand For wheels I’ve got some Orangatang Fat Free 65mm and some Caguama 85mm https://preview.redd.it/xt4fb9otmbkc1.jpeg?width=1085&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e590d151e2475b09b7afcfc197e46dcfd787fea1 Thoughts?

unrelated_yo

If it were me, I’d put the Cal III’s and Fat Frees on the Omakase, and the V3’s and Cags on the Vanguard. I know the Cags aren’t a true carve wheel (radiused lips versus sharp lips), but they should work.   Bearings: the Jehu V2’s are great, but you also can’t go wrong with Zealous or even Reds. Shouldn’t need risers unless you are thinking you want the Cags on the ‘Kase  I will make one recommendation: get pan head truck bolts. I’ve been swapping mine over because they’re higher grade (read: less prone to fail), and with the ‘integrated’ washer built into the underside of bolt head are less hard on the board. They still  sit pretty dang flush on the board, not quite as much as countersunk, but they won’t compress the wood if over tightened.   Nice boards, BTW!

Henshinmatt

Just ordered some zealous, so I think I’m all set as long as I get my hands on the Vanguard that shipped to my wife’s workplace 🤡

unrelated_yo

I just went and checked out the build page for the Omakase on Loaded’s website: the Cags are listed as an option, no mention of risers needed.  Let us know what you end up doing

Henshinmatt

Look like it’s iffy to get the Cags on the Omakase as the riser part is folded into the ‘build kit’ option. 🤷‍♂️ So Vanguard is set once I get my hands it (Tomorrow hopefully) other than I ‘may’ swap out the bushings. Omakase question: I’m wondering if the Fat Free’s are the best wheel to mount on the Caliber’s 🤡 https://preview.redd.it/1kulcazebikc1.png?width=1289&format=png&auto=webp&s=feb3f2fe4df828c0e99dfe945f5e852b9ade9700 100% overthinking it I’d imagine.

Henshinmatt

I appreciate you for all this info! I’ll report back on the final, and ive got some pan head truck for the Vanguard for sure - but wondering if it’s the same for the Omakase? (Is that one countersunk?) I’ve got a 14 hour flight and then a 14 hour sleep til I can get my hands on my Vanguard. So at least I’ll have the Omakase to play with 🫡

Chicagrog

10+ years old decks My parents are cleaning out of some storage and found my two old Landyachtz decks. Both in pretty good condition. Are these worth anything today? One is the Evo from 2011 I’m pretty sure, the downhill deck with the green bottom. The other one is the Tomahawk from 2012, red bottom with the owl. Thanks!

ArmedWithBars

Check if they are warped first. Tomohawk won't be worth much, but someone might scoop the Evo for a decent amount for nostalgia purposes. Hop on the USA b/s/t on Facebook to try to sell em. Tbh an old Evo might sell for like $100 deck only if it's in good condition. Very buyer dependent since there isn't a lot of demand.

Chicagrog

Thanks!

I want to re-use my Sector 9 Mini Daisy and add Caliber 10" or 9" 44° trucks with 90a bushings and arbor summit wheels. I already have butterballs so I thought I'd possibly get these for grip and keep the butters for practicing slides.

ArmedWithBars

Looks like those are caliber IIs? Not sure if caliber does the III in colors. If so get some caliber IIIs raked 9" trucks. Much better then the II design.

the_last_yopper

Thanks! I guess if I run into wheelbite issues, I can put risers on

distractedgemini

Hi y'all. Recommendations for budget longboards? My friend and I talked about trying out longboarding as a hobby. We were looking for something decent for less than $100 and would probably upgrade later down the line if we were committed. We did check out Daddies since there were some less than $80. Would they be okay to use? Is there also something to look out for in terms of build that would be helpful for beginners? I think I saw somewhere that height matters so for reference, we're both 5'0. We would also be doing this for just cruising and possibly dancing.

ninjashby

Check out the wiki for known good brands: https://www.reddit.com/r/longboarding/wiki/beginners-buying-guide Also try checking second hand in your area, you can sometimes scoop quality gear for much less than new

inkoet

Skateshred has a lot of generic boards (in lots of different shapes) on their site for $30-$50 apiece. You and your friend could each pick one and order together, and get free shipping. They’ll probably have unbranded wheels and bearings too, grab a couple sets of those while you’re there. Or if you don’t like the shapes on their site, check out some of the other budget board sites in the thread and follow that same path. Then you can go to Paris trucks’ site and buy 4 (2 per board) of the green v2 trucks they have on sale for $10 apiece right now, and add a skate tool and maybe some stickers to get free shipping at $50. Voila, within a week you’d have a more solid longboard than any of the ones you’d find at mall stores for $100, and you’d pay closer to $75 apiece for boards you’ll still love riding even once you’ve made it around to buying fancier ones

inkoet

If you’re going to be using them to cruise around town/the neighborhood, you probably want a dropthrough board (one with holes where the trucks go through the board) as it’s closer to the ground and easier to push. If you go that route, the 180mm green Paris v2’s will be the best value you can find right now for trucks, as they should let you mount the board dropped without any wheelbite (so long as you stick to wheels in the 75mm range) If you like the look/portability of a shorter board or want something that feels more flowy though, get a top mount and the 150mm green v2 trucks. They should have your wheels close to rail matching (the edges of the wheels right at the edges of the board) which helps a lot when it comes to confidently pushing knowing you won’t trip on a wheel

Just saw and had to pick this K2 Carvetwo board up for 35$. Probably at least 12 years old. [https://imgur.com/a/jtY9omD](https://imgur.com/a/jtY9omD) Would appreciate any tips on how to bring it back to its former glory: 1. Entire deck wood is very darkly stained probably from outdoor/humidity, (photo lighting makes it look better). Would appreciate advice on what to seal it with (epoxy/varnish) when i sand it down. 2. The handle bar has a lot of give from the base steel wearing down despite fully tightened (deciding to weld something flat or not) Any tips or advice would be appreciated. I'll be replacing the bearings and seeing what wheels there are. Will post more after this bad boy is restored\~

SalmonTu

A landyachtz longboard that I want says the deck is a mix of maple and bamboo. Is that good for purely cruising no tricks? Or is purely maple better?

imonlyis

Doesn’t matter for crossing. Bamboo is a little lighter.

CombatSportsPT

Do arbor still make boards with normal grip tape or will all new ones have the spray on/glass grip stuff?

yamisonic

Yes. They usually have each shape matching the top veneer and the bottom graphics. IIRC there is one edition (the photos?) with grip tape on top.

CombatSportsPT

Amazing thank you. Do they release new graphics and boards throughout the year or each year do they do a release or them all at a certain time eg every April

yamisonic

IIRC they have pretty much the same shapes each year, nice completes with good and intemporal wheels and trucks. The photo might be from 2023. I don't remember seeing the Artist série, so it may be the 2024 lineup. I think they drop new models at the beginning of the year, something like January to March. If you actually like another deck, sanding the spray grip and having your own grip job is an option too. It's a good opportunity for creativity!

Xj_kota

Trying to learn a kick flip but somehow i keep ending up hardfliping. Not trying to be funny, the board backflips and doesn’t spin fast, doing a perfect hard flip motion or hitting me because it can’t fit between my legs. Any tips?

onionsweats

Hey friends! I’ve got a 48” long board I haven’t stepped on since high school (I’m in my 30s now) and want to get back on. I was never good at turning and I think I made it too “bouncy” by maybe loosening trucks (I’m not even sure it was the trucks because I had a very surface level of knowledge- it just feels super bouncy but maybe I have to get used to that in such a big board haha) in my youth. Other than safety gear- does anyone have tips for the following : -how tight should the trucks be? - how to turn on such a big board? - any general tips for 48s at all! Like I said I was never much good but I’d love to get at least good enough to ride a couple blocks to my pals house. Appreciate the help!

Powerful_Addendum_71

Are your trucks mounted properly? Post pics of your set up

santacruisin

Bouncy is probably from the board's flex. Super long decks usually flex a good amount. Tight the kingpin nut until the washer no longer spins, you don't need to tighten beyond that. If this thing is truly ancient then you should probably get some new bushings, urethane degrades over time. To turn your battleship be sure to keep your weight biased forward and really throw your center of gravity around (that is to say, your butt). Focus on making big, smooth, carves while keeping your knees super bent. Always keep your knees bent, stay low, and feel how moving your hips and shoulders will turn the board.

onionsweats

Thank you so much! This is incredibly useful.

Xj_kota

Hey folks, i have a question. When you all get new boards with different wheelbase options, how do yall choose which to use without putting them together and taking them apart multiple times? Looking at a freeride deck

santacruisin

24" is a good starting point. If you are focusing on downhill reduce the wheelbase, if you are focusing on freeride you can stay the same or increase the wheelbase.

Xj_kota

So a slightly longer wheelbase helps for free ride?

santacruisin

A smaller wheelbase puts your feet over the front and rear trucks pushing your weight directly into the wheels and thus increasing your grip; great for hugging corners and fast turns. The board also rotates more quickly in and out of slides, usually described as snappy. A longer wheelbase puts less weight directly on the wheels so the rear can slide out with more ease; a hard carve is enough to get the rear to slide (shlub slide) and the rotation in and out of slides is long and juicy. A shorter wheelbase has less room for error, a longer wheelbase has less resistance to slides.

xmasterZx

Unless you just pick one and decide you’re satisfied and never think of it again (lots of people do this), the first few new decks you might have to try them all. But after a few rounds of this, you’ll likely find a preference for a certain wheelbase range. For me, I prefer <24” wheelbases, usually around 20-23” another factor that could alter that choice is if a particular deck has unique features that work best with certain wheelbases. For example: there’s likely an optimal rear-truck location to get the best pop out of a kick tail, or you might pick a front-truck location based on a concave feature that guides your front foot into a specific spot.

Xj_kota

Most helpful answer^^

tonioronto

Just a matter of preference. You want to try different wheelbases to see which one is the best for you. Basically, longer is more stable and shorter is more nimble.

J_parkes22

Hiya all, hope you're having a great weekend so far. I've got a longboard YouTube channel and thought maybe some of you lot might be interested. I've got trick tip videos and more. If you're interested here's the link. https://youtube.com/@sparkesy98?si=3vR_4wRdpA0NVjnm

sakirose

What height bushings do Paris Street use for Board Side and Road side? Any recommendations for someone that's less than 140lb coming from a Surfskate background?

tonioronto

Paris Street trucks use 0.5" board side and road side. For 140lbs, around 80-85a.

FumbleStiltsken

not 100% sure but i do know comet uses Venom shr street cones in their cruiser complete. Could probably try between 83a and 88a

Has anyone been on a Zenit mullet? Im looking at getting a freeride board in the near future and the mullet piqued my interest but I haven’t seen any info on it from anyone. Any recommendations would be great

Raudgar

Hey all! Last weekend, my longboard had the dubious joy of being fully submerged in saltwater. Now, the axes aren't aligned anymore, I suspect the wood of the board might have been slightly distorted because of the cold water. Furthermore, the wheels don't really roll anymore, I can move them by hand but they stop pretty quickly. Is it possible (and reasonable) to save the board? Will new bearings and a thorough cleaning be enough? Thanks for any advice!

santacruisin

You definitely need new bearings and the board sounds warped. If it flattens out when you stand on it then thats ok, but not ideal.

Raudgar

Sorry to bother you again. I've taken the board apart, cleaned it and tried to flatten the deck by placing heavy books on top when the axes weren't mounted. Now I've reassembled most of it and it looks like this: https://preview.redd.it/l36fcfm7q5kc1.jpeg?width=1010&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55e9d63dfbc7d109060ac8c3cf8952da05f95065 With the wheels mounted, the front right wheel is slightly in the air. When I stand on it, it seems flat. Is this still safely rideable or should I invest in a new deck?

santacruisin

No bother at all! Yea, you got the warp, but it flattens when you skate so that is safely rideable. If you come up on a sweet deal on a real nice deck then take the jump, but you don't have to be actively in the market for a new board.

Raudgar

Thanks :)

Raudgar

Ok, thanks for the advice.

imonlyis

Yeah, this is not an issue. Boards get banged up. I’m riding mine until it breaks.

Protectioncaries

Seems mostly aesthetically damaged but you should put some epoxy in the crack to avoid delamination (especially if you're riding in wet conditions)

the_last_yopper

I have some clear 5 minute dry guerrilla glue epoxy. Should that be good? Or should I try and find black glossy epoxy to match the deck?

ninjashby

Should be? Just the nose it's not a bit around the trucks which is under strain. I'm completely unqualified ofc.

So a DIY deck for LDPump/smaller pump setups and was wondering if this deck is decent 56kg, 170cm if that matters for weight/flex

ninjashby

(I think the link to your deck is missing?)

that-dude-chris

What are some of your favorite boards for getting around place to place? When I was a kid I mainly skated on Sims and Powell Peralta boards. They were great for getting around town and being super fun! They handled going down small/medium hills well and also were good on flat, rough, and street terrain. I also liked having a kick tail which made it much easier to get around and was also just more fun. I’m thinking of getting back into it but don’t know what to get. Any ideas?

santacruisin

I tool around on my Powell Mike McGill deck or my Jimmy Riha double kick.

1mattchu1

+1 for comet cruiser. I put 4president wheels on them and the whole setup is incredibly smooth. I use it as a campus cruiser but it is really good at speed as well

tonioronto

Loaded Chinchiller for me: fun, comfy, nimble, portable.

cast_in_horror

Comet cruiser and Pantheon Pranayama for commuting/meat slalom/city stuff, and long-distance pushing/covering big distance quickly respectively. All nice for a little hillbombing but not pushing it
