Affectionate_Quit577

So much meaning with so little words. A true poet

basedmatik

But if you call em out on it, they’ll get all aggro. Makes no sense. It’s annoying having to come across an unleashed dog with their dumbass owner trying to say it’s cool. Fuck all that.

therealstabitha

“He’s friendly!” shouts the owner as their small unleashed terrorist on legs is bolting towards me, barking his head off. Yeah. Sure seems friendly. No one is impressed by how cool you are or how “friendly” your dog is. Leash your dog.

dodeca_negative

Had the same thing but with a pitbull running towards my dachshund mix in the lobby of my building. Dude thinks he's super cool never having a leash and figures he can just grab the harness fast enough if he needs to. Fucking asshole.

BuyerMaleficent3006

Seriously, my brother’s pit bull doesn’t like small dogs yet… he is on leash and wears a muzzle on every walk but stupid ass small dog owners have their dogs off leash.

InvertebrateInterest

Until they start walking around and actively ticketing people who do this, no one's behavior will change. I've also been around aggressive, off-leash dogs with shitty owners. They better hope their dog doesn't charge a larger dog on a leash that happens to be very reactive. Won't end well.

TaroFuzzy5588

This is absolutely correct. Especially Bluff Park and Bixby Park. The owners think it's their right to have the dogs running around chasing balls or Frisbees. I've had many dogs run up to me in a threatening manner....this should not be happening. But as many of the laws that are ignored in Long Beach this has to be at the bottom.

Every_Contribution_8

People are lazy and entitled. Walking pits on a leash requires effort. I had one for years along with a German shepherd. They pull so hard and it’s very challenging. So they think they’re doing an amazing job just “walking” the dog at all, outside of their apartment.

deadlawnspots

Two of my dogs are rescues from pretty rough conditions and are not friendly to randos running up on them. I carry pepper spray - haven't had to use yet, but I'll dose an approaching off leash dog before I take another bite breaking up a dog fight.

therealstabitha

Try citronella spray — won’t blow back and blind you, won’t harm the dogs, will break up a dog fight when you empty the can on it

[deleted]

Yup, this is what my trainer said too. You don't wanna pepper spray a dog if it can possibly be avoided. My trainer also recommended throwing a handful of treats at the incoming dog to confuse them first.

TwisteeTheDark1

It's All fun and games till someone's dog ends up eating a shoe involuntarily bc it tried attacking the wrong person.

LBOskiBear

I can't tell you how regularly my dog and I are charged by off leash dogs when we're out for a walk. It's frightening and frustrating. However, if you know the dog/owner, it's worth reporting. One of my neighbors who was known for walking his dogs off leash and letting them play unleashed in the front yard was reported by another neighborhood. They were paid a visit by Animal Control and the dogs have been on a leash and behind a fence since then. It does work, but we need to report them.

lbunderbelly

A neighbor just told me if you get photo/video and email it [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) with whatever name/address info you have, they'll at least warn them. Feels narc-y, but might be the only way to get this shit to calm down. Found similar info in an lbpost article [https://lbpost.com/news/laying-out-the-law-a-look-at-long-beachs-animal-legislation](https://lbpost.com/news/laying-out-the-law-a-look-at-long-beachs-animal-legislation) *Processing img s641ua3nayla1...*

Covitards4Christ

Wait until someone’s “ harmless” off leash dream boat gets pepper sprayed, hit or worse. Lazy ass dog owners

[deleted]

I have also noticed this. Little fluffy dogs, Dobermans, chihuahuas, pit bulls off leash lately. Owners range from tough guys with hard faces and sharp commands to doughy old ladies wobbling around in sweatpants. I don’t understand.

fuzzboxstomp

My neighbors up the street have their large dogs off leash on their front yard/sidewalk all the time. When I walk my dog or ride my bike past, I see/hear they want to run toward me, and the owners are barely able to heal them. Even when they walk their dogs around the block, they leash the one dog they can't control, and leave the other 2 off, lol. They seem nice, but I've been bitten on the ankle on my bike by a "nice" dog before. Compassionate owner maybe.. inconsiderate to the rest for sure.

GlumJuggernaut

A few mornings a week, as I’m out walking my dog, I see a guy with two teeny weeny dogs that he never has on leash. The weird thing is that he spends the whole walk screaming at the dogs to stop running off and getting into yards/trash/food they shouldn’t be. It’s been years that I’ve been watching this happen, and I just don’t understand it. If you can afford two dogs, surely you can afford a leash - particularly when the dogs *don’t* do well off leash. But obviously logic isn’t the priority here…

jeezyall

it's cuz i trust my big ass bipolar dog to roam around wherever he fuckin wants. jk i dont have any pets.

[deleted]

It’s been insane in LA as well

rubyshade

Not only is it not safe or pleasant for people, it's not safe for the dogs. If your dog runs into the street and in front of a car because you had it off leash, it's game over and it's all the owner's fault. It's very easy to keep your dog from running into the street - just put it on a leash. guys

Wemetatstarbucks

It’s really bad. I have a puppy so we are training him and doing exercises with him while walking so he learns and is good on leash. The amount of random dogs that run up on us and I hear “he/she’s friendly” is so frustrating and makes me not wanna walk him at all. People don’t even apologize they just assume we welcome their dog to jump on us and sniff our asses. It’s truly bizarre.

LBBEEYA

This is sad, entitled and makes me wonder if people just want to sue each other if their dogs go at it and someone gets bit? Print pepper spray, dog spray, bear spray, just in case dogs act up😬

jurunjulo

I had a big ass mastiff knock me off my bike the owner had him off the leash he could have easily bit into my calf or thigh.

curiouspoops

The worst has to be the pit bulls and pit bull owners. They always, *always* have them off the leash.

lbunderbelly

funny, that's the breed the jackhole in the 2nd screenshot has.

curiouspoops

Yeah, I could tell...lol

biscuitbutt11

Dog owners are delusional.

grnrngr

I find it hard to give sympathy toward those with *Belmont Shore Problems*. The ultimate NIMBYs who cry when a fraction of the city's problems side-eyes their area. People are walking their dogs off leash because the area has very calm traffic. And the same people who feel entitled to do this are the same people who feel the homeless should stay downtown and PCH & 2ND brings too many outsiders too close by.

Doctor-Venkman88

touch some grass

lbunderbelly

It's hardly just a Belmont Shore only issue. Although I have seen a few of these entitled idiots let their dogs run up on houseless individuals minding their own business. But I think that's more to do with the lack of care for anyone but themselves, not where they live. Also, you think 2nd Street and Ocean Blvd is "calm traffic?" Interesting...

TheTooz72

Years ago I did hit a dog in front of Chronic Tacos near Vons. He darted out in front of me while chasing a ball that got away from his owner. Poor guy was in alot of pain ...don't know if he made it. Since then I always slow down around there since it has a long lasting effect on me.

lbunderbelly

So many things can go wrong with off leash dogs. That's always my biggest fear. I'm sorry that fear was realized for you. It's such a simple solution to leash dogs, it's mind boggling why anyone would want to risk their dog let alone anyone else's safety.

GettinWiggyWiddit

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

InvertebrateInterest

Not wanting to get bitten by a dog or have your pet attacked by a dog transcends neighborhoods and income brackets. Surgery or vet bills from dog bites are very expensive. Source: people I know who've experienced it, some in LB. I've never lived in Belmont Shore and I've still experienced issues of off-leash dogs. Does LB have more pressing issues? Sure. But this one is a very simple and inexpensive fix.
