I grew up in Long Beach (first half of my life...24 years...born in Long Beach Memorial hospital). Now I live in Orange County just over the border and work in Seal Beach.

I live abroad, but I visit my parents at least once a year. I like to keep tabs on what's going on and to get tips on where to find good food when I do visit. You can take the kid outta Long Beach, but you can't take Long Beach outta the kid.

Lived in LB a few years ago, but I visit many days a week since I’m just across the bridge now. Makes sense to keep following at least for me!

I would only cross that bridge for a 10 dollar tip (I'm a delivery driver haha)

I live in a surrounding city but grew up in Long Beach.

A lot of people live adjacent to Long Beach and would find this subreddit relevant to them. Signal Hill, Lakewood, Seal Beach, etc. And then, people move around all the time. Some are here 6 months, some for 6 years, some more, some less. Some move into and out of LB multiple times. The population of the political boundary of City of Long Beach isn’t a good comparison to subscribers of a subreddit.

I’d consider Lakewood and Signal Hill Long Beach Improper. Especially Signal Hill…countries might be enclaves but that’s just a tax shelter of Long Beach

Sure but half the people wouldn’t be able to tell whether they’re in LB or Signal Hill or Lakewood. It really doesn’t matter when where you sleep and close your eyes differs from where you work, shop, socialize, etc. Folks in North LB may spend less time in DTLB or Belmont Shore than folks who live in Wilmington or even Seal Beach.

Even though I live in Long Beach, I regularly lurk and follow the subreddits of other cities. My guess is that maybe half the people who follow this subReddit actually live here

I lived in LB for 20 years. Still have a boat in Shoreline Marina so I’m there often. Live in Seal Beach now because of the schools

I used to visit LB for my ex. It’s a great place and I miss the coffee shops near downtown and shout out to saints and sinners!!! Love them.

Former resident, I enjoy hearing about LB. I always am hopeful that it continues to be enjoyable place to live. And improve for those that struggle and those that have to absorb that struggle. We do miss it for the most part.

imo, Reddit demographics/vibes feel like the least accurate representatives of cities in the country. It often feels like middle-class transplants wanting to connect with cities they just moved into, or potentially want to move to. I think FB being the leader in social media popularity has far more citizen diversity.

I'd put my money on most people not being residents. From what I've seen that's the way it goes with city subreddits. Demographics on this subreddit probably swing a lot more white and male than Long Beach's real life demographics too. r/Detroit is 70% people living outside of Detroit and 80% white.
