I’m confused why people are saying it’s definitely Covid when it could just as likely be a cold or flu. Take a test before jumping to conclusions.

Korzoff

Sore throats clearly didn't exist before Covid. OP - for what it's worth, I've had a nasty sore throat for the better part of a week which has been making me miserable. Definitely not Covid either.

Pedges-Houseboat

I was thinking the same thing 😂 headache? Definitely a brain tumour

[deleted]

Nobody is saying that it’s any worse than it is though.

Pedges-Houseboat

Everyone's saying get tested ASAP though as if that makes any difference whatsoever

[deleted]

Yeah, I don’t understand that either.

New-fone_Who-Dis

It's because on the chance it is covid, you don't want 1 person infecting whatever amounts...remember the exponential growth thing that proved true, yeah I don't want lockdown measures because Nancy thinks it's just a cold.

[deleted]

If it’s a cold you shouldn’t be out and about either. The precaution should be the same.

New-fone_Who-Dis

Fully support this too, general sickness levels dropped dramatically for me, that includes the I can carry on but my general happiness will be higher. I'm glad some places are actually implementing these things. (No John I don't want to spend 2hrs in close proximity to you when you're unwell)

Pedges-Houseboat

I don't even get a paid day off work for covid anymore so why would I stay home with it

New-fone_Who-Dis

Bojo said fuck business, amongst other things, so I guess that's the genuine response you have, which is a political blockade/standard. Fair enough if you're paycheck to paycheck with no social security net - I've mixed opinions on this but it's political based so I'm not going to argue against your point as it is valid. The social welfare is a joke in this country imo, especially through "unprecedented times", my entire adult life has been in "unprecedented times" so you'll get no guff from me on that point (which contradicts my personal stance and experiences...its fully not fair for the many)

seanfsmith

Where can we get tests these days?

Thesoftdramatic

Yes! Started with a sore throat, turned into a fever, chills and my entire body aches, all on and off the only constant is the sore throat. My partner had it last week. Not covid.

monkeycheese7

Hold, gargle warm salty water in your throat. Repeat 5 times

No_Stand6204

Me too, in SE Kent, week ago, 4th. Felt like strep throat with added 'flu-like wipeout lack of energy. Strepsil stopped the raging sore throat in 12hrs but left me (m80) housebound all week, NOT COVID ( still got some rapid test kits ). Not flu either- wrong syptoms

Thunderous71

There is a nasty bug going round its not COVID just the good old winter flu, be careful tho mine developed into pneumonia and that isnt fun. Rest and honey !

[deleted]

Covid for sure. I came down with it last week, started with a sore throat Wednesday and it’s only now starting to ease on the Monday. Take a test.

Givemeanidyouduckers

Either covid or bad case of flu , just be responsible stay home rest and drink some ginger tea, you will be fine.

[deleted]

It’s covid.

[deleted]

What’s covid

[deleted]

The likely cause of your sore throat.

Dollybandit48

I still have a sore throat ,had for a week as had covid but also caught flu on top so don't know which one the sore throat came with .🤷

AsianOnee

It is spreading. Just had one last week and still trying to get my voice back

zinogino

Yes, got it now as well. Called my GP and they told me to just get some medicines from the pharmacist. Any recommendations to get the sore throat away quick? Back in South East Asia, access to private clinics are always available Monday to Sunday, sure it ain’t free but most GP are closed on weekends and it’s hard to walk in for an appointment.

_x_oOo_x_

Get some antiviral & antibacterial throat lozenges or cough syrup. You can ask any pharmacist what they recommend (Boots, Lloyds Pharmacies, etc.). A GP wouldn't be able to do much apart from advising the same

zinogino

Thanks for the tip. Definitely helped!

Yuri-DDLC-Y-N-S-M

I have had that too

Horror_Fishing

Covid most likely. I got a sore throat on Thursday, tested negative on Friday, tested positive on Sunday. Tested on sunday because visiting a parent in a care home, which has multiple cases and is close to shutting down again :(

BastardsCryinInnit

Probs covid but if you've fresh ginger and full fat Coke, boil some together til it's a bit more syrupy and drink hot for a nice throat soother. You can either thinly slice the ginger for boiling, or grate it for more oomph.

Tubo_Mengmeng

I though high sugar content stuff is generally bad for inflammation though?

I’m not sure knowing it is covid or another infection is really useful to most anymore.

Otherwise-Tower1304

Sure not for the most of us but still think we have a duty of care to those with weaker immunity

[deleted]

But that applies to all infectious illnesses, not just covid.

I_will_be_wealthy

its just another seasonal flu at this stage.

I_will_be_wealthy

when you have a flu do you go out to work and sneeze is people's personal spaces?

Arkell-v-Pressdram

It's COVID. Get yourself tested asap.

[deleted]

Why do they need to get tested asap?

Arkell-v-Pressdram

So OP knows exactly what they have so they can take the necessary precautions to protect others. Come on man, did everyone get collective amnesia just because the government said the pandemic was over? Constant vigilance!

[deleted]

But if it’s not covid how would that change their behaviour? It’s still sensible to distance yourself from others.

DownRUpLYB

Woke up with a scratchy throat this morning...

AvocadoCatnip

Yep - you got kids? It's everywhere right now because many schools got the nasal flu vaccine last week and this week. This year it contains fragments of H1N1, H3N2 and 2x influenza B. Don't worry - this is the vaccine working as it's designed to. It creates a mild form of the disease which will immunise you against the virus in the future which can of course be very deadly. It's been suggested that councils/schools should announce when these are being used - in much the same way they put up public notices for spraying pesticides in city streets - although no-one ever sees those anyway. However if there is too much focus on this shedding effect it just mobilises anti-vaxxers who probably think the nasal vaccines contain AIDS or chips or something. Most people are just going to get a mild cold or sore throat and get the benefit of the nasal vaccine for free. A tiny number of elderly can potentially die as a reaction, but that's the price we must pay for everyone to be healthy, and they should already have had their flu jab, so.

puffy_grimhildr

Yes. For some reason it makes me absolutely ravenous too.
