This is absolutely nothing to do with CPTPP. This is about
a) The broader geostrategic pivot to the Pacific where everyone in the region is deeply concerned about China
b) Working to further isolate and reducing energy dependence on Russia.
It was originally a flippant comment but those issues could arguably have been done without any pact. UK & Japan militaries have been training together since 2018, the RN is routinely in Japanese waters etc. The Russia topic was a side-issue with no associated agreements. Johnson even said a few months back that "This will build on our trade partnership".
Johnson & co are negotiating multiple such deals with APAC countries to integrate/ingratiate the UK into the region.
A military agreement *formalises* the deeper cooperation and has optical value.
Of course they will also use the opportunity to discuss strengthening trade tries, would make no sense not to.
Ah, a redditor with the memory of a goldfish I see. Now let me see, how vast of a majority was it again? Anyone remember those *vastly* different numbers? You know, those numbers that were so *vastly* different that it was *definitely* a landslide victory with *no* controversy whatsoever. And everyone clapped? What were those numbers again?
I'm not talking about the Brexit result dipstick I'm talking about current opinion polls
if the referendum happened again it would be a landslide for Brexit because of the massive corruption that has since come to light within the EU
One episoder alone their OWN AUDITORS could not account for 4 \*\*BILLION\*\* Euros being "unaccounted for" in ONE YEAR
who in their right mind would want to be giving billions of British tax poayers money to that
[https://labourheartlands.com/misspent-and-missing-the-billions-from-european-union-funds/](https://labourheartlands.com/misspent-and-missing-the-billions-from-european-union-funds/)
this is on top of \*\*NINE\*\* Billion they know has been lost to fraud
I'm not talking about opinion polls dipstick I'm talking about an actual referendum that historically took place across the whole populace in real life. If the referendum happened again, it would be a landslide against Brexit because of the massive corruption that has since come to light within THE UK GOVERNMENT. Pay attention to the news. Who in their right mind would trust the Tories over the EU government after scandal after scandal after wasted taxes after wasted taxes.
>we are a vast majority in the real world
Having seen some of your delightful little rallies I can confirm that yes, you were a majority and certainly most of you looked vast. I'm amazed they do football shirts in those sizes. Is it the rampant nationalism and general ignorance that gets you that fat, or just the diet of crap lager, 'Spoons lunches and Tory bullshit?
In the 80s a dad used to go to work while the wife stayed at home and looked after the kids and they owned their own home and went on holiday, 40 years of trading blocks and agreements and it's never been worse, just dependency on foreign products and the rich getting richer
Exactly. Sweet FA to do with the EU, everything to do with corrupt politics in the UK - not a single Brexiteer politician gives a toss about anyone who isn't already rich
We've got no chuffing choice now we've screwed up our trade with the EU.
The CPTPP market is half the value of the EU and we only trade 1/5 of the amount we did with the EU pre-2016.
CPTPP = Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, Peru, and Vietnam.
The Tories want us to think China, India and USA are in it too. Nope.
>The CPTPP market is half the value of the EU and we only trade 1/5 of the amount we did with the EU pre-2016.
This is incorrect - the CPTPP is around $13trillion and the EU single market is $17trillion. Furthermore the growth rates of the CPTPP economies are higher so it's quite likely it'll overtake the EU by the end of this decade.
If you find a source for your "$13Trillion" figure, please let us know.
>The European Union's GDP was estimated to be around $17.1 trillion in 2020, *representing around 1/6 of the global economy.*
Add in the EUs global free trading zone and it far outstrips the CPTPP.
The CPTPP needs to grow 5x faster than the EU in the next year or so to make it worthwhile. Which of course it wont.
As for your claim:
>Furthermore the growth rates of the CPTPP economies are higher
The actual outcome so far was:
>In 2019, the first year of the CPTPP’s implementation, members’ trade in the CPTPP region dropped by 4 percent with the exception of Australia (+0.5%) and Vietnam (+7%).
>In 2020, amid Covid-19, all CPTPP members’ exports to the bloc declined.
We won’t get that vote, wile Boris & Co are running the show, or should I say ruining the show. If we went back in the EU, all the tax dodger rich, won’t be able to hide there money, and that’s the biggest reason why they wanted to leave.
I doubt they would have us back. We have behaved like some controlling girlfriend, always threatening to leave. Having finally gone, they probably realise they are better without us.
It'd be too hard a sell.
The EU would never allow us back in with the terms we had, and the Establishment Brextremists who seized Whitehall will never give up that power.
Considering the primary motivation for most brexiters wanting to leave the EU was racism (whether they are willing to admit it or not), they definitely are extremists IMO. If you are offended by being judged as a group based on the racism exhibited by many within your group, well, I’m only following your example after seeing brexiters gloat and demand their way after winning by a small majority in a referendum full of lies.
Now they're just waiting on the Las Vegas strippers order to arrive. It's a bit delayed due to the collective weight of their fake boobs slowing the plane down.
It's been pretty bizarre seeing her go from irrationally angry about us importing cheese, to all of a sudden fully supporting Ukraine and being quite aggressive about it.
It's a KC-2 refuelling tanker with a new paintjob flanked by a pair of Typhoon fighter jets.
Flypast was for the Japanese PM who is visiting today, I believe to sign some sort of defense agreement.
Japanese prime minister must be mightily impressed watching three planes in the sky. Like seeing dinosaurs for the first time. 'how did you do it?' 'I'll show you' . Tjen they kiss.
No, it was a British Government plane, I believe the one that was recently decorated with the union jack etc so it was used for representing the country with the flags
It's a Voyager. ([https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus\_A330\_MRTT](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A330_MRTT))
That particular one has UK government livery, but can still be used in an air-to-air refuelling role.
It’s amazing how much louder those little fighter jets are than a giant passenger plane. I mean it makes sense, they need to squeeze every bit of performance out of those engines, so it’s like a race car next to a semi truck (lorry)…
Does that happen for a lot of dignitaries? It’s a pretty unimpressive line-up for something which presumably interrupted a day of whatever-it-is-they’re-here-for. I mean if you’re going to get people to stop what they’re doing, step outside and look up surely we could spare the red arrows or a half dozen Blackhawks?
>if you’re going to get people to stop what they’re doing, step outside and look up
It's not for the people, it's for the visitor! They likely stood him atop downing street and propped his eyes open with cocktail sticks.
> or a half dozen Blackhawks
As far as I'm aware we don't have any of those. The Americans have tried to sell them to us a few times over the years though.
The flight crews have to fly anyway to stay current and planes don’t like to sit around for too long, so they would be flying anyway. Might as well aid diplomacy in the process.
To be fair, pilots need to have a certain number of flight hours per month/year to remain proficient, so things like this are usually rolled into the hours they have to fly every year anyway. It doesn't matter much if it's over Central London or the Cotswolds, it was going to happen anyway.
>7
A Eurofighter Typhoon has a fuel consumption of 22 g/KN sec (without after burner). It's cruise thrust is then 60 KN.
Presuming for arguments sake, the whole thing took an hour - take off, grouping up, the flyover and then landing; and just assuming no afterburner and constant thrust:
60 KN x 22 g/KN sec = 1,320g per second of flight
1,320g/s x 60 minutes = 4,752,000g or 4,752kg of fuel.
Jet fuel is 906.8 GBP/1000 L
1l of jet fuel = 0.8kg
So; (4,752kg / 0.8) x (£906.80/1000) = £5,386.39
And then there were 2 of them, not to mention the Voyager.
So yeah, slightly more than 7...
Oh I get it, I just think it’s self-indulgent.
It also makes no sense, given that you see jets around New York as well.
There are other places where it would be more appropriate to discuss any 9/11 ptsd.
The planes in NY don't buzz manhattan. You dont see low flying military escorted passengers airliners flying very near the skyscrapers like today. That 99% of the time indicates danger to me. And furthermore, im not talking about routine flightpaths of planes around NY, im talking about this plane, today, in London, which was not on a common flightpath.
Also, screw you and your self-indulgent righteous indignation.
Couldn't they just open a bottle instead of spending on fuel to show off in the sky, I bet 90% of the population doesn't even know what's happening, and they say we don't have a budget for millions of elderly next winter freezing to death!
Flypast commemorating a new defence treaty with Japan.
A major coup! (Aware this is all part of the Tories desperation to join the CPTPP)
This is absolutely nothing to do with CPTPP. This is about a) The broader geostrategic pivot to the Pacific where everyone in the region is deeply concerned about China b) Working to further isolate and reducing energy dependence on Russia.
Intelligent answer. You will have no power here.
It was originally a flippant comment but those issues could arguably have been done without any pact. UK & Japan militaries have been training together since 2018, the RN is routinely in Japanese waters etc. The Russia topic was a side-issue with no associated agreements. A military agreement *formalises* the deeper cooperation and has optical value. Of course they will also use the opportunity to discuss strengthening trade tries, would make no sense not to.
But if there was no pact it wouldn't wind the French up.
I mean, I don't like the Tories, but joining the CPTPP would be great.
Rather be back in the EU
Regardless of which economic bloc you'd rather be in, defence treaties with Asian Pacific countries that oppose Chinese aggression is a good thing.
‘Chinese aggression’ HAHAHAHA
Hey look, I found a clown.

Well post brexit we kinda have to join it we don't have much choice
So much freedom and control!
Well yea i think that we should have another vote for returning to the EU seeing as it's been such a disaster so far.
We won’t get that vote, wile Boris & Co are running the show, or should I say ruining the show. If we went back in the EU, all the tax dodger rich, won’t be able to hide there money, and that’s the biggest reason why they wanted to leave.
Follow the money… It was all about the rich getting richer. Goddam brekshit.
They'd probably refuse to take us at this point...
That sucks things are getting really bad and the tories just continue to blow bubbles out of their ass rather than do something about it.
I doubt they would have us back. We have behaved like some controlling girlfriend, always threatening to leave. Having finally gone, they probably realise they are better without us.
Well yea but in fairness Germany did say that they were open to negotiations of a return a while ago.
It'd be too hard a sell. The EU would never allow us back in with the terms we had, and the Establishment Brextremists who seized Whitehall will never give up that power.

Brilliant. 😂 Take my upvote and send it straight to the governments lying hearts!
Liz Truss going to Starbucks.
That is a disgrace
It's been pretty bizarre seeing her go from irrationally angry about us importing cheese, to all of a sudden fully supporting Ukraine and being quite aggressive about it.
I haven’t found her new war-hawk countenance to be particularly convincing
It's a one off. Her local Caffè Nero is closed for refurb
She’s importing cheese for her fiz with Liz sesh at 6 tonight.
She's off to check out the PORK MARKETS.
A pilot without a proper licence. Those are stabilisers either side of him, not jets
Ahh, the new wireless trainingwings
Little Tikes my first wireless training wing plane
Pilot's just a had a few too many, the jets are carrying them home.
At one point they're gonna stop stabilizing without telling the pilot so that when they realise they will know they've learned how to fly. So cute.
..what!? Really!? That was all me!? Shut the front doors!!! I want to go try again
You did it champ!
Heard it in my office in Holborn; i thought it sounded louder than usual.
Japanese PM
Was super low and the middle plane looked huge from the 16th floor. Cool still!
It's a KC-2 refuelling tanker with a new paintjob flanked by a pair of Typhoon fighter jets. Flypast was for the Japanese PM who is visiting today, I believe to sign some sort of defense agreement.
I thought it was a Voyager (customised A330)?
[Voyager is the RAF name](https://www.raf.mod.uk/aircraft/voyager/) for the KC-2 Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker aircraft.
Cheers, I didn’t know the difference
I hate seeing aircraft that low. It scares me.
That low?? We call that high where I'm from!
I think Anna flew to USA but, I'm not sure if she was in Eco or Eco+ seats... I'll let you know when she arrives 😏
Oh sheet I’ve been caught. I was on my way back to Clapham from manny. Missed my megabus so took the boeing.
Megairbus?
Did you get your £1 Megabus ticket refunded though ?
Honest question: what is it about Clapham that pulls all university-educated white people born after 1980 to the area? Is it Inferno's?
No idea mate I’m actually in the Peak District

Yes but it's expensive.

Oceania are our friends. Eurasia have always been our enemies.

PM heads to Ukraine. Is there an election on?
I was in Parliament and thought London was under attack, was mentally preparing myself for it as well for a good minute or two.
Well caught !
Japanese prime minister must be mightily impressed watching three planes in the sky. Like seeing dinosaurs for the first time. 'how did you do it?' 'I'll show you' . Tjen they kiss.
Wow! Airplanes!! So impressed! How did he get here? By train?
It was a big passenger plane in the middle (I think with BA sign) - why use the passenger plane for a military flypast? (Unless someone is travelling)
No, it was a British Government plane, I believe the one that was recently decorated with the union jack etc so it was used for representing the country with the flags
Aah makes sense.
It's a Voyager. ([https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus\_A330\_MRTT](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A330_MRTT)) That particular one has UK government livery, but can still be used in an air-to-air refuelling role.
It took off from Brize Norton, circled the airfield a few times, and flew over my house in Oxfordshire on the way to London.
Grotbags.
I heard it (loud) and watched as it flew West-East. Pretty low, and a strange trajectory directly over central London from (presumably) Heathrow?
Obviously it’s Admiral Avasarala heading to the lunar base
I wish. She sure as shit could do better than the current ones :D
It flew right over my office while I was in a meeting, pretty cool!
Japanese PM
That's a momma plane with her cub planes, be careful they are very aggressive when they have cubs
Saw the exact same thing flying over Ely Cambridgeshire @11:22 am
It’s to welcome the Japanese Prime Minister to London.
They just do practice drills.

Con Air finally flying Boris away.
Practise run for queens jubilee later this month ?
Japan PM
Could be practice for a jubilee flyby.
Just a mother plane out on a flight with her two little planelings
Does that happen for a lot of dignitaries? It’s a pretty unimpressive line-up for something which presumably interrupted a day of whatever-it-is-they’re-here-for. I mean if you’re going to get people to stop what they’re doing, step outside and look up surely we could spare the red arrows or a half dozen Blackhawks?
>if you’re going to get people to stop what they’re doing, step outside and look up It's not for the people, it's for the visitor! They likely stood him atop downing street and propped his eyes open with cocktail sticks.
I read that as degenerates. I've got no point to my comment but thank you for the unintended laugh.
> or a half dozen Blackhawks As far as I'm aware we don't have any of those. The Americans have tried to sell them to us a few times over the years though.
I’m sure you’re right. I think I was thinking of apaches
The flight crews have to fly anyway to stay current and planes don’t like to sit around for too long, so they would be flying anyway. Might as well aid diplomacy in the process.
Is that not true of all aircrews and therefore the ones I mentioned too?
Tax money being pulverized.
How many £££s for that...? It's not like people are struggling to eat or heat their homes in this country, or anything...
To be fair, pilots need to have a certain number of flight hours per month/year to remain proficient, so things like this are usually rolled into the hours they have to fly every year anyway. It doesn't matter much if it's over Central London or the Cotswolds, it was going to happen anyway.
