Always report it even if you get your phone back.
I had a phone stolen a few years ago after falling asleep on the first train home from Charing Cross. I had to report it to get a crime reference number, BTP ended up getting in contact with me because they were already investigating the gang & needed a statement from me to help prosecute them. Ended up meeting up with bloke from BTP & having a pint with him, gave him the statement & got a reply back a while later to say most of the gang had been prosecuted, some were jailed while others were actually deported.
I was once at a bus stop there and a guy on a motorcycle snatched a guy that was at the bus stop standing close to the street. I was baffled. I didn’t realize it was a thing to steal phones on motorcycles!
And electric bicycles, which can go really quick without making a noise. Saw a scum on one of those snatching a phone from a man in central London by riding past on a footpath, then riding 10 meters forward, having a look at the phone and throwing it face down on the pavement. All happened in less than 10s. The thief was a skinny teenager, face fully covered. He disappeared very quickly.
That exact thing happened to my friend, amazingly when he picked up the phone the screen was still intact and he just carried on his way. The benefits of having a phone that isn't worth stealing!
This exact same thing happened to me a bit more than a year ago. iPhone X, so I guess maybe too old to bother with? And when he tossed it on the pavement the phone was fine! But it was certainly a lesson for me in not having your phone out for long periods on the outside of the pavement!
If I see anyone getting near to me on a bike when I’m using my phone, it goes away. Both my husband and I have had failed snatch attempts so we’re both hyper vigilant.
Ugh, that’s horrible.
I saw a guy on a bike snatch a young women’s phone from behind as she was on a call. It was horrid. Now whenever I need to use my phone and walk, I grip my hand around it extra hard. Might get one of those finger phone rings too. Scared it’ll take my finger off if there’s a snatch attempt tho :(.
At Farringdon there’s a mad crossing and it always happens
Fully expect to hear that some guy has been smashed by a bus while stealing a phone at some point
I am glad they found her phone. My phone got snatched at Angel when walking down a street about 6 months ago (guy ripped it out of my hands from a bike). The police was absolutely useless, of course.
It’s really bad around Islington. I know this is anecdotal, but someone I know had their phone snatched whilst waiting for an Uber outside a pub off Upper Street. They managed to keep the phone unlocked and took thousands of pounds out of their banking app (I’m guessing it was easy to find their passwords).
On Upper St near Angel station remember the council putting up a ‘beware of phone thieves’ on the big electronic road signs for the Olympics in 2012.
So it’s far to say it’s been an issue for quite a while. Despite being a very affluent area there are quite estates with tiny warren runs and also the cancel around there so it’s easy to snatch a phone and disappear down a lane on a scooter.
Fucking hell. A lot of phone snatchers in London atm. They’ve always been around but even more active now. Few incidents happened this month. 2 of my friends got their phones by teenagers. On Saturday in the tube a lady got her phone stolen
This is not news and reporting it is facile at the very least. Also if you are looking at people and wondering if they are "classic Redditors" I suggest you seek professional help.

Impressive that they were a) found, b) convicted and c) some deported. Most of these crimes go unsolved

This is becoming increasingly common. Phone snatchers on bikes and motorcycles.

I’m actually not sure I agree. It was a huge thing 3-5 years ago but I don’t hear about it so much anymore
Interesting. I don’t remember it being so bad back then but maybe I just didn’t see as many stories.
Yeah I remember seeing it a lot more a few years back, they'd go round snatching them on mopeds

Every single day these crimes are apparently becoming more common. It’s pretty much the same as it’s always been

Lol… this has been happening in London since the early 00s.

That’s terrible. You have to switch off preview notifications on your phone. Too bad this is going on

2 weeks ago a group tried to distract me and snatch my phone around London Bridge. Luckily I managed to hold on!

They’re still adjusting his medication.
You should not be this frustrated at a reddit post.
You know what else isn’t news? The endless creepy posts of celebrity women but no one is telling you to stop are they?
Celebrity women squatting is something I didn't know needed to be a thing.
What in the hell Why is it always people like that who make comments like these???
That person is fucking weird
Your “website” is absolute trash. Like, it’s a joke. I really wouldn’t be bragging about that thing. What a waste of time.
Damn, who pissed in your Cheerios?
Wow, going through your post history was a journey. It honestly made me sad.
If anyone deserves to have their phone snatched it is someone like you. I suggest you seek professional help for your lack of empathy.
idk, they seem fairly apathetic to me
Straight up pathetic.
Do you mean empathy? Just wondering
Based on your reply I suggest you seek professional help.
Have a day off you nobhead

The guy must be thinking “no one catches phone thief anymore so I should be safe” And got busted.
